What No thread on Joakim yet????
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2008 -> 02:56 PM) Another reason that drafting Beasley might not be a bad idea... Why, because he smokes weed and likes a cocktail? The majority of players in the NBA like to do the same things.

Thome breaking out of slump?
QUOTE (BobDylan @ May 26, 2008 -> 11:59 PM) Because he's big? If he helps the clubhouse, he's worth keeping around for the long haul this year. (If he's hitting jack at the ASB, start limiting his AB's.) But there is no way he should bat anywhere above the 6 slot right now. If he doesn't help the clubhouse like people say, I'd hope KW is calling teams and feeling out interest. I don't care if Thome does manage to turn it around, anyway. It's time to get younger. I think, regardless, KW has to get rid of one of Thome/Konerko by the trade deadline. Get some speed in the line-up. Even if it's not at the top. Thome and Konerko are going nowhere. They both have no trade protection. Thome would only interest a couple of teams, and they are teams he most likely wouldn't be interested in moving to. Konerko would probably have to go to Arizona or LA and they probably don't think they need him now. I'm sure both will start hitting pretty well soon.

If Ramirez has no idea how to handle a hit and run, why is he being asked to execute one? And why doesn't anyone know that he doesn't know you aren't supposed to try and hit one 15 miles in that situation?

Dotel is a strikeout pitcher, and that's what the Sox desperately need .

Fields also didn't play today, I would suppose its to take it easy after his injury. So its not like you would be bringing in someone 100% healthy.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 26, 2008 -> 08:30 PM) Who would you rather have in the Sox lineup....PK or Fields? Konerko. Where you going to play Fields?

Hawk would have been OK with the call either way there he says. Why don't I believe it.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 26, 2008 -> 08:26 PM) Its time to bring fields up, I could care less if he Ks, the multimillion dollar thuds that are checking the backs of their cards K as well. At least he can hit lefties, and give us some power. This is sad. He's hitting .231 with a .286 OBP with 2 homers and fanning 1 out of 3 ABs vs. AAA lefties this year.

Chicago White Sox @ Cleveland Indians
Alexei Ramirez has more homers this year than Delmon Young, Victor Martinez and Joe Mauer combined.

QUOTE (shawnhillegas @ May 26, 2008 -> 08:19 PM) He reminds me so much of late 90's Ugeth Urbina. Fastball that moves on a horizontal plane - totally unpredictable. 2001-3 Dotel was about as unhittable as anyone while he was toiling as a set-up man in Houston. They had Lidge, Dotel and Billy Wagner.

QUOTE (shawnhillegas @ May 26, 2008 -> 07:17 PM) Not to sound ill-informed, but what do you speak of with Eddings? The infamous dropped 3rd with AJ? Is there more? It seems about 90% of the time the Sox get a huge break from an umpire, Eddings happens to be the umpire.

For 1 inning or so, Dotel is as nasty as they come.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 26, 2008 -> 07:13 PM) Why can't Doug Eddings do all of our games? I know. Its like JR gave him a huge loan, and told him he didn't have to pay it back.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 26, 2008 -> 07:12 PM) No walks by Dotel. Please. If he stays 6 inches off the plate, he should get the call.

QUOTE (shawnhillegas @ May 26, 2008 -> 07:11 PM) They were pretty good pitches. Not that its an excuse not to swing though. Where those pitches were located, if he swung, nothing good for the White Sox would have happened. Chances are he would miss. I suppose he may have been able to foul the second one off to stay alive.

Those looked more than several inches off the plate.

QUOTE (daa84 @ May 26, 2008 -> 07:06 PM) no doubt, i was just surprised because it was something i hadnt really thought about, and nobody really complains or talks about parity like they do in MLB or NFL I think it would be an issue if not as many teams made the playoffs. Baseball IMO gets the parity talk because it has the fewest playoff teams. How many teams go more than 10 years without a playoff appearance?

QUOTE (daa84 @ May 26, 2008 -> 07:02 PM) quick NBA fact i just heard, which is remarkable because you never hear people complain about the big teams always winning in basketball as much as you do in baseball....but 25 of the last 29 NBA championships have been won by either the teams in the conference finals, or the bulls Throw the Rockets in there and it would be 27 out of 29

Orlando Cabrera Calls Press Box to Complain During Game
QUOTE (StatManDu @ May 26, 2008 -> 01:59 PM) I was on the "inside" that night. ... Here's what I saw ==runner breaks for 2nd ==sailing throw beats runner but glances off a leaping Cabrera's glove into center ==error charged to Cabrera ==after the game, official scorer changes call to error on catcher ... later changes call to a steal because the runner was breaking for second I know that scorer -- Bob Rosenberg -- well. While he does take a lot of ribbing from scribes and broadcasters alike, all he cares about is getting the call right. I also know from firsthand experience he could give a crap about a call from the dugout. I agree, but Cabrera should have been charged with an error. Hawk and DJ who give every White Sox the benefit of the doubt, said he took his eye off the ball. He's looking at the scoreboard right after the play and can't believe he's charged with an error. Its not Cabrera's or any other player's place to call Rosenberg, who I believe also is the official scorer at most Cubs games, and I believe he also does the Bulls. The option to give him a call shouldn't even be available. If Cabrera wants to b**** and moan about an official scorer's decision, that's fine, b**** to the media so everyone knows the whiney punk you really are, and what you really only care about, Orlando Cabrera. Just don't do it in the middle of the game. If changing that call from an error to a stolen base helps Cabrera win a GG, at least one person will rightly be credited with a steal.

Orlando Cabrera Calls Press Box to Complain During Game
QUOTE (Reddy @ May 26, 2008 -> 11:33 AM) and who the hell's gonna egg someone on to call the press box and b**** about an error... no one i can think of... And from the article he called the press box twice that night. I hope he has a big rest of the season, then he can take his crybaby self somewhere else.

Orlando Cabrera Calls Press Box to Complain During Game
QUOTE (the People's Champ @ May 26, 2008 -> 12:28 PM) That is, assuming, none of his teammates egged him into calling the pressbox. We'll never know, because none of us were actually IN THE DUGOUT. If he's a true leader, why would egging him on make him do something so selfish?

FutureSox 2008 MLB Draft Discussion
From Keith Law at espn.com: Plenty of GMs were on hand at the SEC tournament, with Theo Epstein, Kevin Towers and Kenny Williams all making appearances. Williams also showed up at the ACC tournament on Saturday. The White Sox are rumored to be leaning towards either Georgia shortstop Gordon Beckham, who went 1-for-6 with a walk and three strikeouts in Georgia's two-and-out run, or Arizona State third baseman Brett Wallace for the No. 8 overall pick.

Orlando Cabrera Calls Press Box to Complain During Game
Why do players have access to contacting the press box? That line should be disconnected. I suppose it probably is for the umpires. Maybe they should lock up the hotline and give the key to them.
