Chicago White Sox @ Cleveland Indians
QUOTE (daa84 @ May 26, 2008 -> 07:06 PM) no doubt, i was just surprised because it was something i hadnt really thought about, and nobody really complains or talks about parity like they do in MLB or NFL I think it would be an issue if not as many teams made the playoffs. Baseball IMO gets the parity talk because it has the fewest playoff teams. How many teams go more than 10 years without a playoff appearance?

Chicago White Sox @ Cleveland Indians
QUOTE (daa84 @ May 26, 2008 -> 07:02 PM) quick NBA fact i just heard, which is remarkable because you never hear people complain about the big teams always winning in basketball as much as you do in baseball....but 25 of the last 29 NBA championships have been won by either the teams in the conference finals, or the bulls Throw the Rockets in there and it would be 27 out of 29

Orlando Cabrera Calls Press Box to Complain During Game
QUOTE (StatManDu @ May 26, 2008 -> 01:59 PM) I was on the "inside" that night. ... Here's what I saw ==runner breaks for 2nd ==sailing throw beats runner but glances off a leaping Cabrera's glove into center ==error charged to Cabrera ==after the game, official scorer changes call to error on catcher ... later changes call to a steal because the runner was breaking for second I know that scorer -- Bob Rosenberg -- well. While he does take a lot of ribbing from scribes and broadcasters alike, all he cares about is getting the call right. I also know from firsthand experience he could give a crap about a call from the dugout. I agree, but Cabrera should have been charged with an error. Hawk and DJ who give every White Sox the benefit of the doubt, said he took his eye off the ball. He's looking at the scoreboard right after the play and can't believe he's charged with an error. Its not Cabrera's or any other player's place to call Rosenberg, who I believe also is the official scorer at most Cubs games, and I believe he also does the Bulls. The option to give him a call shouldn't even be available. If Cabrera wants to b**** and moan about an official scorer's decision, that's fine, b**** to the media so everyone knows the whiney punk you really are, and what you really only care about, Orlando Cabrera. Just don't do it in the middle of the game. If changing that call from an error to a stolen base helps Cabrera win a GG, at least one person will rightly be credited with a steal.

Orlando Cabrera Calls Press Box to Complain During Game
QUOTE (Reddy @ May 26, 2008 -> 11:33 AM) and who the hell's gonna egg someone on to call the press box and b**** about an error... no one i can think of... And from the article he called the press box twice that night. I hope he has a big rest of the season, then he can take his crybaby self somewhere else.

Orlando Cabrera Calls Press Box to Complain During Game
QUOTE (the People's Champ @ May 26, 2008 -> 12:28 PM) That is, assuming, none of his teammates egged him into calling the pressbox. We'll never know, because none of us were actually IN THE DUGOUT. If he's a true leader, why would egging him on make him do something so selfish?

FutureSox 2008 MLB Draft Discussion
From Keith Law at espn.com: Plenty of GMs were on hand at the SEC tournament, with Theo Epstein, Kevin Towers and Kenny Williams all making appearances. Williams also showed up at the ACC tournament on Saturday. The White Sox are rumored to be leaning towards either Georgia shortstop Gordon Beckham, who went 1-for-6 with a walk and three strikeouts in Georgia's two-and-out run, or Arizona State third baseman Brett Wallace for the No. 8 overall pick.

Orlando Cabrera Calls Press Box to Complain During Game
Why do players have access to contacting the press box? That line should be disconnected. I suppose it probably is for the umpires. Maybe they should lock up the hotline and give the key to them.

2008 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (santo=dorf @ May 26, 2008 -> 08:46 AM) Looks like we have another Royce Clayton on our hands http://www.suntimes.com/sports/deluca/9687...eluca25.article Do team leaders usually care about their individuals stats this much? I was going to say something about this the other night. It was that stolen base attempt where he dropped the ball and they gave him an error. They had the camera on him looking at the scoreboard seeing the error posted and you could see him say , "Wow". IMO this guy doesn't want to be here.

Contreras Trade Value @ ASB
People forget Contreras won 17 consecutive decisions from mid 2005-mid 2006. I think Clemens won 20 in a row and that is the only streak longer. He is not far removed from that streak. He hurt his back in mid 2006 and lost some effectiveness. Last year was horrid, but who knows how much that had to do with his personal life. His forkball has been dancing almost like never before the last few outings. There's really no reason to think this is a fluke. I have no idea what his real age is, and he probably is an injury waiting to happen, but unless the Sox fall out of contention by the deadline, which at this point doesn't appear likely, they should keep him and maybe shop him next offseason. If they can get a great package, thank him for the memories, if not, he's a pretty good pitcher.

Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread
QUOTE (shipps @ May 25, 2008 -> 02:23 PM) Well I think its been pretty obvious Noah has always enjoyed his ganga. Exactly. As does about 90% of the NBA. A cocktail and reefer is hardly a big deal, especially if he wasn't driving.

Greg Walker yet again leads Sox to worst batting average
The obvious question to me is if Walker must be fired, which I find ridiculous, who is the replacement? As was posted before me, someone from within the organization is the usual call for in season pink slips, but the organization as a whole is hitting .236. There has been hundreds of Walker must go posts, but not with a name of a replacement except for Harold Baines.

**White Sox vs. Angels Game Thread! 5/24/08**
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 24, 2008 -> 06:43 PM) It's telling when you have to compare your DH who is also the team's highest paid player to a SS who was brought in for his supposed defense and leadership to see who is the team's worst clutch hitter. One is as bad as the other, but all Thome is paid $14M to do is hit. He can't do anything else anyway. Thome is a great guy and was a good hitter in his prime, but that and a quarter won't even get you a cup of coffee in 2008. Thome and Ryan Howard must both be done. Ryan Howard has already whiffed 72 times.

I wouldn't want to have to pay his contract, but Gary Matthews Jr. is truely one of the best defensive OFs I have ever seen.

Greg Walker yet again leads Sox to worst batting average
QUOTE (daa84 @ May 24, 2008 -> 05:45 PM) bumpity During the 8 game winning streak, the team was hitting close to .300. They have 6 or so hits the last 2 games. How did Walker get so stupid so quickly? I just know two things, its Walker's fault if the players don't hit. If a guy like Quentin has more success than he ever has at the major league level, Walker has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Negative Catch All ~ House of Blues
QUOTE (ChiSox35 @ May 24, 2008 -> 07:26 AM) fixed. Swish really needs to get his s*** together. There are so many automatic outs in the lineup as of today that it's beyond comprehension how the offense would be if those hitters started coming around. Quentin is great and all, but he shouldn't be carrying a team full of seasoned vets (especially since Juan Uribe isn't here to help shoulder the load). Kudos to Dye though, he could hit oil in my front lawn if he wanted to at this point. I agree about the offense. If and when this team starts hitting, if the pitching can stay close to where its at, a huge if of course, they will run away with the division. The thing that really scares me about Swisher is Billy Beane did know exactly when to unload Ben Grieve. Is Swisher, although definitely not possessing the same "old player skills" Grieve possessed, going to be on the same career path? Maybe its just adjustments, and getting comfortable with a new team, but he has been as awful as anyone and gets a free pass because he's dirty 30. Hopefully dirty 30 didn't refer in any way to his training.

Negative Catch All ~ House of Blues
QUOTE (That funky motion @ May 24, 2008 -> 07:04 AM) [/b] Field was a rookie, big difference. Not nearly the difference the same people are rating the 2 performances. If Thome is one of the worst hitters in the game, if not the worst, which is what the guy who created this site says, how can he be high on Fields who struck out even more, got on base even less and hit the same amount of homers even though Fields homers were at a greater pace than he ever hit previously?

Negative Catch All ~ House of Blues
If the White Sox lose, according to Soxtalk there are only limited options for who to blame: 1. Juan Uribe 2. Greg Walker 3. The umpires 4. Jim Thome How is it that Swisher gets a pass? The only thing he can do offensively is walk. He's not a very good defender. If the Cubs had traded for him instead of the White Sox, every other post in the Cub thread would be laughing at what would be considered an obvious ex-juicer. I have no proof, but 35 homers in 06 to 22 homers in 07 to 4 closing in on 1/3 of a season in 08 makes one wonder doesn't it? I still don't understand why he is batting 7th when his biggest offensive weapon is the walk. Unless the walk is advancing a runner, getting on for 2 weaker hitters seems like a waste when you don't run. Its also hysterical to see all the Thome bashing by many of the same people who were so impressed with Josh Fields in 2007. Thome has been bad, yet he's on pace to hit 32 homers, about the same pace Fields was last year when he was going to be a star according to some. He's on pace for 179 strikeouts, a worthless bum he's been called. Fields was on a 200 strikeout pace, but that didn't matter because a strikeout is supposedly no different from any other out. Thome's average is weaker by about 40 points, but his OPB is better about 50 points, and this is when Thome is struggling. He'll start hitting soon.

QUOTE (soxfandude @ May 22, 2008 -> 08:10 PM) it seems to me that Cabrera always swings at the first pitch He has a low career OBP. He's not suited for that spot. He had a big year offensively last year, but was pretty mediocre the second half. It seems to me, it almost seems like he doesn't want to be here a lot of the time. - 5/22 gamethread: Indians (22-24) vs Sox (25-20); 7:11; CSN
