To put things into perspective, Cabrera is 4 months younger than Josh Fields. I read today somewhere the asking price isn't nearly as huge as you would think. They want a young major league starter, a young major league position player and a prospect, a good prospect not necessarily the organizations best. I'm sure the price could rise if there's a bidding war, but acquiring him would make me very happy.

Its apparent to me the White Sox should exercise Uribe's option. It really makes no sense to trade for someone to replace him who isn't substantially better than him, and makes more money than him. He will be playing for a contract. Hopefully he won't have any off the field issues like that shooting and his mother's health this past year, not that should be used for an excuse because he had a lot of the same offensive woes the previous 2 seasons. If Greg Walker is the poison that a lot of people around here say he is, it doesn't matter who they replace him with because he will ruin them too.

Omar Vizquel is going to sign a 1 year $5.5 million contract with SF. Considering his age and his 2007, Uribe's option is looking better and better.

I would love the White Sox to acquire him. It would cost a lot of talent, probably more than the White Sox have in the minors, and it would cost a lot of money. He's going to get a lot of it.

The White Sox claimed Tejada on waivers risking having to pick up his entire salary. Though it was a very small chance, it did exist. I don't think his salary would be the issue.

It also can start when organizations compare young guys to current players. Ron Schueler back in the day compared Kip Wells, Jon Garland and Jon Rauch when they were minor leaguers to David Cone, Kevin Brown and Randy Johnson. Didn't quite turn out that way. So while a guy like Garland has had a decent career and made a ton of money, I would suppose one could say he is/was overrated. Its a lot to put on a young guy, saying he reminds you of a guy who has had a great career.

The more I think about this, the more I wonder why would the Yankees want to trade for Crede right now.?His back is still a question mark, and aren't the Yankees a little bit upset with his agent? Of course if they traded Damon, it would be a wash as far as agents go, but the contract negotiation clock would begin ticking again. Although I wouldn't do it, I'm really starting to believe the White Sox are going to non-tender Crede, and hope to bring in an Eckstein in his place, and bring back Uribe in his 2004 role.
