Big Hurt Countdown to 500 Thread
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 07:44 PM) Thomas tore his tricep, and the way he fell, it really doesn't surprise me that it tore at all. I mean, I'm sure there's physics and medical science and all that gibberish that I don't understand and never will, but when 275 pounds goes from running to falling/diving at full extension, hitting the ground hard, and landing from 6'5 in the air, I'd imagine that type of force could very easily tear a relatively small muscle on the back of the arm. I was at that game and it really wasn't a violent injury at all. Really no action that you don't really see every day. He probably came down on it the precise way you would have to for that kind of damage to occur, and he probably couldn't have done it if he tried to do it 10,000 times. He was definitely hurt, but at first I don't think even he thought it was all that serious. The White Sox didn't even know how injured he was until several days later. Remember David Wells sort of questioning him about not playing hurt? Frank still with the 1 homer and 4 rbi on the grand slam for the season. No other extra base hits. He's literally limping to 500.

Geddy Lee shows love for Old Comiskey
QUOTE(knightni @ Apr 13, 2007 -> 12:38 PM) I beg to differ. I was in the old park in the eighties. It needed to be replaced. If you think it needed to be replaced in the 80s, you should have seen it in the 70s. Really run down. I have a coffee table book of the park from 1977. Reinsdorf should have had this book when he was angling for a newpark. Its quite evident that he and his group threw a lot of money into old Comiskey. But it was a great place to watch a game.

Geddy Lee shows love for Old Comiskey
QUOTE(max power @ Apr 13, 2007 -> 06:05 AM) That dude sings like a wemun. Leave Geddy alone. He actually isn't nearly as high-pitched as he used to be, but he can still get up there on occassion. A lot of Rush cover bands do have female singers though.

Geddy Lee shows love for Old Comiskey
Old Comiskey was great. I love Geddy, but I think he's wrong about the new park. I don't think he's been there since any of the renovations. His least favorite is Skydome and he's a Blue Jays season ticketholder right behind home. Rush in Tinley Sept 8. The new album May 1 is supposed to be awesome. Even Rolling Stone is handing them backhanded compliments.

sox in milwaukee?
According to weather.com there is a 30% chance of precipitation on Friday, a 10% chance on Saturday and a 40% on Sunday. As long as the field has been fixed from all the snowfall, they will be in Cleveland.

Most Intimidating Baseball Player Ever???
Steroids or not anyone who gets intentionally walked as much as Barry Bonds has to probably be the most intimidating ever.

Most Intimidating Baseball Player Ever???
Randy Johnson, Frank Thomas in his prime, Albert Belle.

Road Trip
I think it wouldn't be wise for the Indians to move the series unless its almost a lock they can't get at least 2 games in. They will lose so much money with the concessions, parking and the killer, no suite revenue. They don't have to draw as much in Cleveland as the do in Milwaukee to get more money. You are also at risk for alienating fans who may only have tickets to a game this weekend. If they play in Milwaukee and the weather is playable for any of the games in Cleveland, some fans will be pissed.

Bobby Jenks
I have the feeling if Jenks threw 91 when the Angels waived him, KW probably wouldn't have claimed him. I couldn't care less what his velocity is as long as he gets outs, its just that there isn't much history to suggest closers that lose 7-8 mph off their fastballs can remain effective. Maybe he's the exception. I wish people would get off the "just like last year" with him argument. Does that mean his second half will be "just like last year"? It wasn't pretty. He needs to be better than last year when he came into camp woefully out of shape.

White Sox vs. A's, 4/11/07 (W)
Let's see, Buerhle got shelled the second half of last year. He got shelled during spring training, and has been hit hard both starts this season. I'm not going to blame the umpires. I think he either has some sort of flaw where he's tipping his pitches, or he has lost his command and/or stuff. I am not encouraged.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 11:10 AM) I am concerned, but not quite sure what to think. Part of me wonders what his weight loss program was like, and if it cost him either flexibility or strength (or both). If done wrong, a diet can do more harm than good. If Jenks really did lose 30 lbs. it looks like he found at least most of it. The pictures at the beginning of spring training did make him appear slimmer, but I now see no difference. I think there has to be concern considering the way he finished up the season last year, and he still is topping out at 93 or 94 and not hitting that most of the time. He reminds me of Bob James, a guy who threw very hard, took no care of himself and was gone quickly. Jenks most likely doesn't have a long career.

Chris Young does something good (while not on the sox, f'in kenny)
QUOTE(Felix @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 10:22 PM) Yes, but think of how many more opportunities there would be if he were actually being a productive hitter. Suppose he were to start getting hits instead of those weak groundouts to second with the runners on second and third. He would be so much more productive, and both his numbers and the teams performance would benefit greatly from it. The RBIs are too dependent on the players in front of him in the lineup that they just don't show a players performance during the year. If the players in front of CY aren't getting on, and he doesn't get the RBIs that he has thus far, how do you look at his season? I'd say its pretty crappy thus far, and the fact that the people in front of him have gotten in scoring position isn't going to change my opinion on it. Thats not really the point. The object of the game is to score more runs than the other team. The beautiful thing about baseball is that it doesn't necessarily take a hit to score a run, but if you read the earlier post, this guy does seem to hit pretty well with runners on base. He's obviously contributing greatly to the offense without getting on base very much. At least he's driving someone in. Using your theory, if he gets on all the time, he's just going to be dependent on someone else driving him in. At least he's producing. Driving in 8 runs in a week is being a productive hitter, regardless of his batting average.

QUOTE(Wedge @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 09:58 PM) In other news... Twins getting hammered, down 10-1. Are the Yankees that good? Or are the Twins that bad. Getting shut down by Pavano took a little luster off of Danks' performance.

QUOTE(bmags @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 09:55 PM) is it just me or has WGN's presentation been f'n up all year. I've seen 3 games on wgn and they've had numerous scoreboard problems and today they've cut into every inning at least one pitch too late. It's getting on my nerves. I'm going with the conspiracy theory. Where's hangar?

Jason Kendall was a KW target before the 2005 season. Thank God Billy Beane won that auction and AJ fell into KW's lap.

The bum A-Rod has 6 homers and 15 RBI already. How many guys don't want him on the White Sox?

Chris Young does something good (while not on the sox, f'in kenny)
QUOTE(Felix @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 08:28 PM) How do you get RBI? By knocking in people that are already on base or hitting a homerun and driving yourself in. If you're hitting below .200, chances are you aren't hitting too many homeruns (or just suck at everything else in which case you are a pretty crappy hitter anyway). So, what happens when the players before this crappy hitter aren't getting on? The RBIs stop, and the player loses any sense of productivity that they ever had (however small it was in the first place). THIS is why people rather players who are more productive (say, .300/.350/.500) over players that can't hit, but get RBIs. The players who actually hit well are more likely to stay productive over the course of a handful of years, and don't rely on other players on the team to make opportunities. On the contrary, the crappy hitting player will need to either pick up their game or continue to rely on the players in front of him, which is a horrible, horrible approach to the plate in baseball. Make sense? Ever heard of productive outs? Young must have a few or he just gets hits when there are runners on base. Driving in runs is an art. Most guys hitting .182 would strike out or pop up to second with a runner on third. I think the fact that he still is driving in runs while not hitting very well is a good sign. He's not going to hit below .200 much longer.

Contreras Rumor
QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 02:54 PM) She would not, as a matter of normal business, have a say in when the paper was served. If he wasn't living at their home, or if for some reason the home was impossible to enter, then being served at work would happen. Servers do not want to be chasing people all over the place. I have also heard where the two attorney's will get together and arrange for the paper to be served. I won't take sides, being a spouse of someone who travels extensively and who has women tossing themselves at his feet, must be very stressful. It seems that more athletes are less than wonderful husbands. But they would have to get through security to serve him in the clubhouse. I just don't see that happening.

Contreras Rumor
QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Apr 9, 2007 -> 11:03 PM) Process servers are legal like supeonas and most likely would be allowed to enter the clubhouse. Fisk was released in the summer of 93 and showed up to the playoffs and they wouldn't let him in the clubhouse. One of my best friends used to serve people as a summer job in college. Unless things have really changed the last few years, there isn't a chance in hell of someone serving divorce papers getting into a major league clubhouse 15 minutes before a game.

Alex Snelius is still donating money. Anyone read the article about him in Chicago Magazine? He has some cash flow problems apparently.
