  1. Why do we hear about the umpire's strike zone every damn game? Does Hawk think the Sox pitchers never get a borderline call?
  2. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 07:52 PM) Hawk again bringing up how Iguchi had that ball go under his glove. I think that Hawk should let that go, maybe it's a play he had a chance to make, but it was a tough play That was a tough play, and it would be nice if one of the starters in the best rotation ever assembled would pick him up.
  3. Odalis Perez was a Soxtalk favorite a couple of years ago. He's not having any trouble with the top of the Sox order yet.
  4. I think Buerhle being behind every hitter is a bad sign of things to come. Hopefully he'll start getting ahead of the hitters or he's going to get ripped.
  5. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 06:55 PM) At this point last year, I was still saying the Red Sox were the team to beat in the AL. I said that until they were beaten. The team having the best record is not "The team to beat", the defending champs are. You couldn't have said that in 2004 about the Marlins, could you?
  6. I actually met the guys who invented the Shawon-o-meter. They went to high school with one of my best friends in college. The Shawon-o-meter dissappeared from Wrigley when those 2 got jobs. Lee Elia wasn't too far off in his rant.
  7. Too Cub fan-esque. Leave the o-meter signs and the throwing of opposition homers, occassional foulballs, and garbage on the field to the morons in the dump on the northside.
  8. So the Millllllllleerrrrrrrrrrr Liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight guy doesn't sell at Wrigley. Good for him. He has business cards, and they are hysterical. It has Vendor as his occupation.
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 12:52 PM) Well, aside from 2 years in Oakland where he was suddenly good (01 and 02, interestingly enough), it's worth pointing out that the years he's been in the AL he's been shelled, and his numbers in the NL the last 3 seasons have been pretty poor, ERA's from 4.5-4.9, which would be somewhere in the mid 5's in the AL. And Vazquez in the AL? His ERA was over 6.00 the second half with the Yankees in 2004, I think near 7.00, and its about 5.50 right now. It also was about 4.50 last year in the NL, and the White Sox gave up a top prospect, a couple of other serviceable guys, and are paying him handsomely. At about $8 million a year cheaper than Javy Vazquez, with a better career W-L record, and a career ERA only 0.18 higher, if people value Javy Vazquez, they should value this guy a little bit more. The Yankees #5 starter right now is at least as good as the #5 starter in the best rotation in history. If McCarthy moved into the rotation, I would change my opinion.
  10. QUOTE(gosox41 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 10:18 PM) I think Lidle has more value to the Yankees then Abreu right now. Bob I think you're right. People won't want to admit this, but Lidle has had a better career than Javier Vazquez. The Yankees pick him up and a lot of people yawn or don't mention he being included.
  11. He's above average defensively IMO. He does make some incredible plays, and I think his range is underrated. He appears slow, but he's faster than he looks. Long striders always appear slower than they really are. He gets good reads, and has a strong arm, although it hasn't been quite as accurate as it usually is this season. He's not a gold glover anymore, but he isn't bad out there.
  12. Both Pujols and Big Papi have huge game winning blasts in playoff games as well.
  13. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 09:33 PM) Would you rather have Ortiz or Pujols at the plate in that situation? Either and I would like my chances. It just seems Ortiz is automatic in those situations.
  14. Terry Ryan has to be kicking himself for non-tendering Ortiz a few years ago.
  15. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 09:29 PM) Ya how ridiculously clutch has he been. He's more clutch than JOSE I think he has something like 15 walk off hits the past 3 seasons.
  16. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 09:26 PM) Ortiz hits a walk off HR. Would have been more surprised if he hadn't. I was watching ESPN the other night and Ortiz has an incredible amout of walk off hits the past 3 seasons. It almost would make me walk him and get to Ramirez.

QUOTE(My Dixie Normus @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 09:17 PM) Tendinitis in the right wrist. He had a cortisone shot in Chicago today. I have that in both wrists. I had surgery on one. I will probably have it on the other this winter. You can function but it can be hard to grip things. The cortisone may help for the time being but eventually, it will have to be addressed. I play golf three times a week if that gives you some idea of how functional you can be but hitting 400 ft. bombs is a little harder than hitting a golf ball. Why do I look at Thome and thing any joint pain he may have is probably the gout?
  18. MacDougal and McCarthy both could use some steroids.
  19. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 09:17 PM) Contreras is from Cuba. I'm sure he's not bothered by the heat. I know it gets hot in Cuba, but it supposedly was 104 in KC today. I think that would bother just about any human working hard in those conditions for a couple of hours.
  20. QUOTE(BamaDoc @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 09:15 PM) Why is Contreras still in? 106 pitches starting the inning. The bullpen is spent. Unfortunately for Contreras his pitch count and the temperature are pretty much the same right now. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 09:15 PM) I'd like to see Riske as the first out of the pen. If it gets tight, Matt. Riske still scares me in tight situations.
  21. QUOTE(Soxman72 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 09:10 PM) Dick I tend to agree with you on most thing, but we have been there and tried that with Cotts. He needs at least one more pitch and I just don't believe he has the capacity of pitching over 200 innings. But he was very young when he was a starter. A little maturity, adding another pitch, plus the fact that right handed hitters have a tough time against him usually, I think he will be a very good back of the rotation starter in the future. Next year may be pushing it, but I really believe he will be in some team's rotation in the next few seasons if he remains healthy.
  22. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 09:03 PM) No way. I think Cotts will definitely be a starter some day. Thornton, I am not sure about, but he came up as a starter. He started a game against the White Sox that I attended, and couldn't throw a strike to save his life.
  23. You have to figure McCarthy is going to be in the rotation next year. Anyone think Thornton or Cotts may get a shot to stretch it out in spring training and KW deals 2 starters? If Chacon can bring back Craig Wilson, I know Wilson isn't the greatest, but Chacon is brutal, 2 Sox starters could free up a ton of money and bring back a lot of players.
  24. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 08:42 PM) I'm saying Rogers is no better than Garcia or Vazquez. Everybody knew he was pitching way over his head the first half. Now, once again, he's getting lit up after the break. It happens EVERY year. I just found it strange you were so quick to stick up for him. Lord knows you never, ever do that with our guys. You need to work on comprehension of my posts. I stick up for a lot of White Sox players. I just haven't sucked back the Kool-Aid that will make me worship the ground Ozzie walks on, and that will make me think Coop can walk over to a mall, pick 11 or 12 guys and make the best pitching staff in baseball. And all I said about Rogers was that I wouldn't call him useless just yet. That's hardly a glowing endorsement.
  25. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 08:35 PM) Again, how is he any less useless, though? My argument is not that Vazquez is better. He wins big games. Your saying Vazquez is not better, but Rogers is useless. If Rogers is useless or just sucks, then Vazquez has to suck or am I missing something.
