GAME THREAD 7-6-06 SOX vs Orioles
QUOTE(sin city sox fan @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 08:02 PM) Let's not be so hard on Javy...without the error, the Orioles get one run at most that inning. If he can hold his own for another 3-4 innings (or maybe more), I still believe we will come back and win this game. The guy makes $12 million a year. He should be able to pitch over an error, and limit the damage. Ortiz looks like he knows the roof is about to cave in.

Anyone catch the paper, scissors, rock championship on ESPN the other night?

Hawk says there's a reason Tejada makes $16 million a year. I wonder if he can come up with any reason Vazquez makes $12 million other than udder stupidity.

GAME THREAD 7-6-06 SOX vs Orioles
As bad as Ortiz has been, he's 10-0 the last 3 years in July. I still think the Sox are going to hammer him tonight.

Where's Hawk
I think a lot of it right now is superstition. If DJ is doing PBP and the Sox have a good inning, he does more. Hawk is in the booth just about the entire game, I have a pretty good vantage point, so it isn't an incredible amount of bathroom breaks.

Two sox scouts at yanks/ Indians 7-5 game
The Sox play the Yankees 7/14,7/15,7/16. Seattle plays them 7/17,7/18,7/19. Detroit plays Cleveland 7/24,7/25,7/26. This easily could explain why those scouts were there. The Atlanta scout, that's a different story, but just because scouts are at games doesn't mean deals are being discussed. Teams want reports on every player from both leagues.

Two sox scouts at yanks/ Indians 7-5 game
QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 08:37 AM) With the Indians in sell off mode [Jason Johnson and Perez traded already] one of their bullpen arms should be on the block. Not that many teams just happen to all show up to scout the Yanks on the same day. I can't see Betancourt on the block. Though that's who I'd like the sox to pick up. Most likely it's Guillermo Mota, with him being the oldest, least tenure w/ the indians and most expensive arm of the three. Johnson and Perez were all offseason pickups, like Mota. Maybe the Indians are trading a bullpen guy. The likelyhood of the White Sox scouts being present at an Indians/Yankees game with a series coming up against the Yankees next Friday, is that they are there to scout the Yankees. It doesn't hurt that they also see the Indians, but I'm fairly certain the Sox have a pretty good book on all of the Cleveland pitchers.

Franchise Record
QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 07:58 AM) 21 out of 44, pretty freakin' impressive. I also saw that the Sox are at 87.2% capacity for the season. That 87.2 is misleading. The Sox dole out more comps than just about any MLB team. Those don't get counted in the attendance figure, so sellouts are never 100% full or even 99% full. The actual percentage of capacity number or percentage of tickets sold vs. tickets available number is quite a bit higher. This attendance has really surprised me. I would have thought 2.7 million would be excellent. They will blow that away. It most likely will be above 2.9 million but less than 3 million. The fact that Detroit is playing well helps sell the extra tickets to those games.

The Sox play the Yankees next week, they're most likely scouting the Yankees.

Hermanson could be back by the end of the month...
For the most part, he got by with cunning and guile most of last season. If somehow he could return, chances are he is going to get lit up pretty badly.

Jon Garland
Garland has been much better. Hopefully its something that will last for a while. Contreras and Garland threw gems, now its Vazquez's turn. I feel confident going against Ortiz. Since the Sox offense basically did nothing after the first inning tonight, they should be primed for some hitting tomorrow evening.

Franchise Record
QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 11:02 PM) Good news, but I find it hard to believe the park didn't sell-out more games the year it opened--was it '92? It used to hold 6,000-7,000 more people. They most likely will not get to 3 million this season, but they will be very close.

Tiger Woods/Ozzie Guillen bet?
Tiger would easily get 1 hit before Ozzie shot par unless Ozzie is pretty close to scratch as a golfer right now. A lot of my friends are pretty good and play a ton, and they NEVER shoot par. Thats after playing 15-20 years. Tiger would get a broken bat hit, or some sort of cheapie in 15 years.
-
The beginning of the end
We read on this board that June was when the Tigers would fold. I think they went 20-7. The Sox better get a lead on them. I believe 6 of their final 9 games of the season are against KC.

Crede
QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 11:13 AM) I just hope Ozzie realized that Mack at 3b is a disaster. If you have to sit Iguchi and Crede over the next two days and Ozuna isn't ready, then please put Mack at 2B where at least he has longer to react, and Cintron at 3B. There were at least two "hits" the O's got that Crede (or Cintron) would have gobbled up but which left Mackowiak befuddled. Those balls toward Mack at third were ripped. They would have been tough plays for Crede. Cintron had an easy chance at 3rd Sunday which he screwed up.

White Sox may be in trouble
QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 10:36 AM) Yesterday's game was more like it. Apparently Coop worked with Contreras on his arm angles during a side session at Wrigley, and it paid off. Had Joe Crede not gone out, there would have been two fewer hits, as he would have gobbled up balls that befuddled Mackowiak (who should sub at second if both Iguchi and Crede are out -- at least he'll have longer reaction time there). When Contreras is dominant, our pitching staff has a chance to be dominant. It sure would be nice to see yesterday's outing kick off a week of great pitching leading up to the AS break. I think there was 1 play Crede most likely would have made. The other one I'm pretty sure you are talking about was tough. Mackowiak did make one really nice play. I think that's the first time he's played third this year. Its amazing every ball seemed to go his direction as soon as he entered the game.

Manny skipping All-Star game?
If Ozzie is going to name Crede as a replacement, he should wait until this AJ voting ends. AJ is going to need votes from non-White Sox fans. Another White Sox on the team would probably hurt his chances just because a lot of people will think the Sox have too many players on the team as it is. AJ has a tough road to win this vote as it is, considering his lack of popularity around the league. If he wins, nobody should ever question White Sox fans loyalty and determination ever again. As far as naming Maggs, maybe the sensitivity training worked.

Iguchi
I'm sure the Sox aren't going to risk anything. If he's able to play in 2 days, put him on the field.

Update On Jones
It isn't happening. A-Rod isn't going to the Cubs either. The Yankees pay ARod $15 million of his salary with Texas covering the rest. Why would they trade him for Ramirez, a guy with a balky back who at his best puts up numbers ARod puts up when he's struggling? Also if Jeter were to have a catastrophic injury, ARod could easily move to SS, something Ramirez couldn't do.

White Sox may be in trouble
The problem to me is people don't like to hear or read opinions that are different than theirs. I'd rather have everyone agree with me, but there's usually very few. Everyone is going to be right and everyone is going to be wrong analyzing baseball. Guys that get paid millions to do it are wrong a lot. Just look at KW last year. He wanted Kendall to catch. Couldn't make the deal. He wanted Jaret Wright in the rotation, couldn't match the Yankees. He wanted Tim Hudson. Beane didn't want McCarthy. He offered Matt Clement a nice sized contract. Boston trumped him. If KW is successful with any of those moves, guys like Iguchi, AJP, Hermanson, may not have been signed, and a championship would probably not have been won. To write off people worried about the pitching staff as being "chicken littles" is short-sighted. The Sox pounding the ball, but getting pounded while on the field is in the words of KW "a movie we have seen before." I'll guarantee you KW is at least as worried about the pitching staff as all the "chicken littles" on this site.

Orioles at White Sox 7/03/06
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 08:22 PM) who'd back up AJ? just asking. How's Stewart doing? He's supposed to be the next back-up. I looked him up, he's hitting about .280 in Charlotte and supposed to be decent defensively. Most likely will be AJ's caddy next season, unless Ozzie gets his boy Hank White to head south.

Orioles at White Sox 7/03/06
This is an offensive team right now just like every KW team before 2005 Year Team ERA Result 2003 4.17 Dissapointment 2004 4.91 Dissapointment 2005 3.61 World Championship 2006 4.46 ? I don't think this is promising despite their current record. Pitching wins. If Politte can't mop this up without anymore damage, please buy him a plane ticket.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 08:09 PM) Good thing you guys are here to give these bums some advice. They might f*** around and win the WS...if they'd only listen to solid advice like: "get your head otta your ass." They aren't going to win a WS giving up 10 runs a game.
