  1. QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 07:16 PM) ... he walked him, it was what 86 mph, i seen him reach 91 today already The sad thing is, the gun is quick. He's throwing slower than it appears.
  2. As Wanny would say, "He has an ankle, he'll be fine."
  3. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 07:06 PM) Holy s*** we have a fatass trainer! Herm has a BIF. A butt in front.
  4. LMAO DJ is calling a spade a spade and Hawk tried to spin BA's struggles. What are the chances Denis Savard gets chewed tonight?
  5. Although Jones obviously is a great CF and a big run producer, I just can't see the Sox adding that much payroll to their roster. I'm as big of BA fan as anyone, but he's eventually going to have to start hitting like a major leaguer. Its easier to get by with Thome,Konerko, Dye, AJ, Crede, Iguchi pretty much on fire the whole season, but the time is coming when they are going to slow down, and .170 isn't going to get it done. KW got Everett when Rowand couldn't hit in 2003, so eventually he probably will get someone if Anderson doesn't hit in 2006. But I'm pretty sure KW thinks Anderson will hit in 2007 or 2008 and beyond and probably would go after a guy who has an expiring contract so BA could try again next year.
  6. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 12:49 PM) Personally I'm content with the way AJ is hitting. I'd love for him to take more pitches but that's not who he is. This is how he hit in Minnesota, and for the most part how he hit in SF. I'll take a .300 average with a few big hits and calling a good game anytime. He is such a target, he takes a lot of attention and pressure away from his teammates. The guy is worth his weight in gold, IMO, even at today's inflated gold prices.
  7. To compare this year and last is a mistake IMO. Last year, the pitching was lights out. This year the offense has carried this team for the most part. The pitching needs to improve. As unlikely as Minnesota and Detroit are to keep up their current paces, the White Sox offense is equally unlikely to keep up its current pace. If someone where to tell you the Sox would score 11 runs Sunday against the Cubs, you would have thought there was a 99.999% probability they would win. I don't think its being pessimistic at all to think if the pitching continues to perform how its been performing, that there is a very good chance there will be no playoff baseball in Chicago this year. The good news is that most on the staff have at least some hope of performing better in the second half, at least ERA-wise. The notion that this is the best 5 man rotation ever assembled is really pretty crazy. You can't call something the best until their performance is complete. Hopefully in October we can say that it was the best, or among the best, but right now its pretty average.
  8. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 04:59 AM) The only real question is why he hasn't been designated for assignment... Hell we could bring up someone from our Great Falls team here and they could out pitch Cliff the gas can... I'd be really surprised if he isn't gone soon. I think the only thing that's holding it up is a lack of a viable replacement. Politte has been much worse this year than Shingo last year and he was DFA'd, of course they had Jenks waiting in the wings. Ozzie likes Montero, that's scary, and it appears that regardless of what the spin is on it, that Tracey will never be a guy Ozzie will trust, if he even is given another chance. But like you said, any pitcher in the organization could give you what Politte gives you right now. Even some position players could give you what he gives you right now. His ERA last season was 2.01. He had never had an ERA below 3.66 in any season he pitched 30 innings until last year. His fastball has lost some zip. It was obvious he was due for a decline this season, but its still shocking the decline was this great.
  9. AJ has no chance on that extra vote.
  10. If Crede gets in that extra vote, the abundance of White Sox on the roster will hurt his chances of making the team.
  11. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 2, 2006 -> 06:13 PM) I bet Crede or Tadahito will be the fan vote You could make a case for AJ as well, but Mauer is mauling the ball.
  12. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 2, 2006 -> 06:11 PM) We have 6, not 7 Crede not being on the team is a shame. He probably deserves to start.
  13. QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Jul 2, 2006 -> 06:08 PM) no, wasnt kruk just saying he thinks pk should of made it? or is he in? He thinks Paulie should start. Kruk let the cat out of the bag that Ozzie has 2 of his own firstbasemen on the roster.
  14. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 2, 2006 -> 06:07 PM) Konerko is apparently on the All-STar team. So is Thome. Probably Jenks, Crede, Dye, Contreras, and Buerhle.
  15. Supposedly, 7 White Sox are on the team. Ozzie picked his boys.
  16. QUOTE(bmags @ Jul 2, 2006 -> 05:46 PM) seriously...buerhle looked awful. Neifi Perez and Zambrano took him deep. That says all you need to know right there.
  17. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jun 28, 2006 -> 02:25 AM) When was the last time Pods bunted for a single? Does he even try to do it anymore? It was that game he didn't take strike 3 looking.
  18. Politte sucks. Its evident he can't even be used for mop-up duty anymore. The Sox need to remove him from the roster. That said, this game is on Buerhle. That was one pitiful effort.
  19. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 08:10 PM) A few things: *Vazquez was brought in here as the 5th starter. A damn expensive 5th SP but a 5th starter nonetheless. He's performed like a 5th SP though he's getting paid like a #1 or a #2. He has some nasty stuff. Yet he's been hurt by not making the big pitch when he's needed to. Hopefully he can correct this before too long. It seems now it's all mental with Javy. Get him to a shrink quick He may have been brought in here as the fifth starter, but picking up his contract and giving up Young clearly indicates the White Sox didn't expect him to pitch like one. I know the DBacks threw in a little money, not much, and getting rid of Duque's contract and Vizcaino's made it nearly a wash financially this season, but next year his money, if he continues to pitch like this could have been much better spent. Instead of having to face Boston or the Yankees, this guy has been fortunate to get 3 starts against KC, a team when he pitched against him that was on pace to be the worst team in history. Without those starts, his ERA is over 6.00. I read somewhere that he has had 1 quality start in his last 6. $12 million should get you more than that. Thinking that he'll pull a "Contreras" and suddenly become dominant is a pipe-dream. Contreras started throwing strikes, and went back to a style he used his entire career before joining the Yankees. Vazquez doesn't have these chips to fall back on. He is frustrating because he has so much talent. But he's been pretty mediocre his entire career except for a couple of seasons of pitching when nobody was paying attention in Montreal.
  20. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 08:00 PM) I find it interesting how so many Cub fans stand by their park being the greatest in baseball, but then they go and throw garbage on the field. This wasn't a new thing for them to do. But ya know, when I really love something the last thing I ever want to do is make it look like crap. I know the organization does that daily by marching these nippleheads out there, but the fans really don't need to help make the place look like trash. I wish if it happened again, even if it took 2 minutes to clean up, the umpires would have the balls to call the game a forfeit. For the life of me, I can't see how throwing garbage onto the playing field is tolerated. Anywhere else, you are going to jail. The place is a dump. Friday there where gulls circling the outfield in the 9th, just like they circle the USCF lots after the cars clear out, and they try to pick at the leftover garbage.
  21. I didn't hear Lou today, and he obviously doesn't have much broadcast experience, but even if he gets the names wrong, you know who they are, and Sweet Lou does know the game.
  22. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 07:06 PM) yes and no. its fun to win, but our other rivals are destroying these crappy NL teams too The NL does suck. Its really almost unbelievable the domination the AL has had this year.
  23. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 06:59 PM) Interleague play has... and always will suck. Never liked it from day one. The White Sox are 14-3 in interleague play this year. It makes it a little more likable, no?
  24. The garbage was BS. I'd like to see a huge story on it in the Tribune, but obviously we won't see that, unruley behavior only occurs on the South Side.
  25. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 06:07 PM) So you think we should get rid of Buehrle as well, is that it? Hey, Jon Garland wouldn've never had a monster season like he ahd last year if we'd have shipped him off after ONE bad YEAR, much less a handful of games. Actually our GM had Garland traded to the Angels several years ago for Erstad until Angels ownership blocked it. As far as Vazquez, I'm sure KW and Ozzie expected a lot more than they are getting. This outing aside, I agree that today wasn't that bad considering the wind was howling out, Vazquez has not been good. Not as bad as some recent #5 White Sox starters, but certainly not worth his paycheck. Not even close.
