  1. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 06:37 PM) A Rod is a fraud. He is not Dominican. You are born in America, you are American. How can you defend him? The guy is not a winner. What has he ever won? He is full of stats. That is all. In his 3 seasons at Texas he missed 1 game total. He drove home almost 400 runs, he hit 156 home runs, that's an average of 52 a season and hit over .300 while playing a stellar SS. He certainly pulled his weight in Texas. He was a most deserving MVP last season with the Yankees. To say he is not a winner is not accurate. He has conducted himself with class throughout his career, even with all the jealousy of his contract. I would be proud if he wore a White Sox uniform. Baseball is a team game. ARod has not been on a team with a decent pitching staff since his Seattle days. This whole thing with the Dominican Republic and the US is only because both sides were pulling on his sleeves begging him to play for them. Ozzie saying the DR doesn't need his "ass", is a lie. The guy is the best player alive.
  2. Alford released a statement saying his focus is on helping his team win the Big Ten title. He obviously didn't remove himself from consideration for this job, which to me says he would be very interested. I know Alford talks to Bobby Knight quite a bit. I would assume Knight wouldn't want him taking the Indiana job. It will be interesting to see how this all pans out. I do know one thing, if he does go to Indiana, Steve Alford will be public enemy #1 in Iowa City.
  3. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 01:51 PM) Ozzie Guillen world titles: One A-Rod's rings: ZERO A-Rod is a fraud. Rather than being a savior in Texas, he b****ed until he got traded to a better situation. And since he's been traded, Texas has improved and the Yankees haven't won a ring. I can't wait until we play them this season and Buehrle handles him like usual. Also, as far as I'm concerned, I'm glad Ozzie speaks his mind. Makes for some good entertainment. Alex Rodriquez is the greatest baseball player in the world, one of the greatest of all time. Look at what he did in Texas, his play wasn't the reason they sucked, maybe his contract was, but how is it his fault Hicks offerred it to him? WS titiles have nothing to do with it. Rodriquez has dual citizenship. The DR and US wanted him on their team. He was in an unusual and awkward spot. Maybe he could have handled it better, I don't know, but its certainly not Ozzie Guillen's place to pop off about it. For a guy desperate to spend time with his family, maybe he ought to worry his family and no one else.
  4. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 01:08 PM) You're right, but I still find it funny. People, especially people in the media, do not like to talk openly. There are plenty of people who refuse to speak their mind. As we are seeing, it can be interesting when they do. Ozzie sure does like ripping people, especially fellow latins. However, when he was getting some criticism last season during the teams bad run, he talked of quitting. The more he is out in the open with his jabs, the more shots he's setting himself up for. The question will be: Can he take it? I just wish he would take the approach of staying out of people's business he has no right to question. He didn't enjoy it when the mayor questioned his not going to the White House, and there he is popping off about Nomar and ARod. Seems hypocritical, but he hates hypocrites.
  5. Turn on the radio and listen to the sweet rumblings of Chris Singleton. I actually think Singleton is going to be decent. He was pretty good at Soxfest I thought.
  6. Why must Ozzie pop off about these things? Is it really necessary? What would people around here think if someone like Joe Torre popped off about a White Sox player? It wouldn't happen because Torre has too much class.
  7. Hopefully he's taking Brantley's place on Baseball Tonight. I doubt we could be that lucky.
  8. Since it was the White Sox who claimed him from an NL team, that means every other team passed on him, correct?
  9. Bringing guys like this in doesn't hurt. The worst thing that can happen is that they continue to suck and you release them or send them to the minors. I just wouldn't expect one of them to shine. Guys like Wunsch and Jenks, guys that are picked up off the garbage heap and become solid contributors are the exception rather than the rule. Hopefully at least one of the lefties brought in will not remind us of Kevin Walker, although Walker was pretty good for most of spring training last year IIRC.
  10. Contreras had a sweet suit on
  11. Hopefully Joe will have a good spring, make the team, and be a solid contributor. Odds are against him, but he has a lot of ability and work ethic is not a problem. I may be crazy, but I seriously believe if Borchard had a solid week or two results-wise in MLB, it would propel him to be a pretty good player.
  12. I wish Sosa would sign with the Nationals. He wouldn't do much in that park, unless he found some more vitamins, and you know Frank Robinson will get in his face. It would be pretty entertaining watching that show.
  13. QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Feb 10, 2006 -> 05:00 PM) I like this move, between Munoz, Lopez, and Almanza one of those guys should give us the innings we need from our second lefty. CWSOX45 I would substitute the word "could" for "should" in your statement. None of these guys has shown much at the major league level, but maybe they get lucky with one of them. Its worth a shot. Its not like they have to throw them in a real game to see if they can get the job done.
  14. I know someone who played for the Raiders during Shell's first tour of duty, and he said he said he's nothing but Davis' puppet.
  15. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 11:03 AM) http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/new...t=.jsp&c_id=chc So Zambrano and Prior combined will make approximately what Carrie Woods will earn in 2006, and just a little more than Maddux.
  16. This actually might be a blessing for Young. This break will force the D-Backs not to rush him. A year at AAA may be real good for him.
  17. People on this site have made a big deal about the White Sox White House appearance. I don't know if teams visited the White House back in 1917 so this is a big deal to the organization, and Ozzie, especially considering he is the manager, should go. It wouldn't kill him to fly out of the DR into DC that morning and return to the DR that evening or even the next day. He is with his family, especially his sons all season and off season long. I think the excuse of wanting to spend vacation time with his family is weak, although I agree that it isn't that necessary he attend. The snub that concerns me is Jenks. Supposedly a death in the family is what kept him away from Soxfest, and now a personal matter has him not attending this. Most likely its nothing, but his past history, and the fact that he is now the toast of the town wherever he is at gets me wondering if he has fallen off the wagon.
  18. This isn't actually an injury but it did happen to a friend of mine. He and his girl where "having relations" for the first time. Once he was in she clenched up, and couldn't unclench. He was stuck. They had to call the paramedics. They gave her some muscle relaxers or something like that, and said told them it really wasn't that unusual.
  19. I don't think its any big deal. Winning the division 3 years in a row is something to be proud of. Aren't the 6 World Championship trophies still all over Bulls stationary 8 years after their last title?
  20. QUOTE(Felix @ Feb 9, 2006 -> 09:45 PM) Derek Jeter's career fielding percentage (based on errors) is .975, while Ozzie Smith's is .978. Is Jeter anywhere near as good as Smith was at defense? No, they shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence when talking about defense unless you are talking about a good defensive player and a bad one. And Jerry Owens is a LEFTFIELDER. Not a centerfielder. He is pathetic in CF from all reports I've read and heard. Kenny Williams referred to Owens as a CF at Soxfest. I heard it with my own 2 ears. It may be that the Sox have determined that Pods is definitely not a CF, therefore Owens may have a crack at the CF job if Anderson where to get hurt or something. KW did mention his bad arm, but claimed it was because of some old injury and that they would be stretching it out this spring. It would be nice to have a CF who could throw, but I would be more concerned with getting one who can run down balls. I have never seen Owens play and have no idea about his jumps, but if its is arm that is keeping him in LF, that shouldn't be that much of a problem. The Sox had a pretty good team when the One Dog was throwing flyballs back to the infield in the early 90s.
  21. I received mine about a week ago.
  22. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 9, 2006 -> 10:25 AM) Or Rich Daley That's probably even a better comparison.
  23. Gretzky's assistant and his wife supposedly ran a gambling ring. Gretzky has said he knows nothing about it. He sounds like Sammy Sosa and Raffy Palmiero to me.
  24. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Feb 9, 2006 -> 08:36 AM) These are a special section of seats. These seats are in the right-field corner, in foul territory. But the benches will have seat backs on them just like USCF has on all its bleachers. Its worth the extra cash.
