  1. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 06:43 AM) Speaking of Dmitri Young, is he even on a team right now? On his player page on ESPN.com, it still says Tigers at the top, but I'm pretty sure he was a free agent. He's still with Detroit, and supposedly lost 20 lbs.
  2. Anything can happen. I don't know if you remember 1984, but after the 1983 domination, the Sox acquired Tom Seaver, who turned out to be their best pitcher in 1984. With Hoyt, Dotson, Bannister, and Burns, it, on paper, was one of the most dominant 5 man rotations ever. For some reason or another, things didn't work out in 1984, probably they kept too much intact, and they finished below .500. All you can ask for at this time is a team with a legitimate chance to win. The Sox are clearly that. They made a lot of changes, I think for the better. I think many of the players can have better offensive years. The bullpen is my main concern.
  3. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Feb 20, 2006 -> 05:44 PM) He did? Granted he wasnt the problem, but the Sox were in the playoffs once when Magglio was here. If Frank, or Paul, s***, even a guy like Podsednik left like Maggs did, I would have a hard time holding a grudge just based on what they brought me in 05. Maggs didnt bring us s***. Im sorry for the harsh posts, I really just have a HUGE hatred for Magglio. His departure helped bring the financial wherewithal to field a world championship team.
  4. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Feb 20, 2006 -> 07:10 PM) Yep, Dye was offered more money by both the Rangers and the Diamondbacks but kept his word to KW because they had a handshake deal. Maybe, but he didn't offer the A's a reduced rate even after they paid him $32 million for 3 injury plagued years. He wanted the money, and if the team that supposedly offerred him more than the Sox did, offerred it to him BEFORE HE AGREED to sign with the Sox, he would have signed with them. He and his agent had no idea the offer or offers where coming. These guys almost always go for the money, and really, who can blame them?
  5. My advice to people without tickets is to be patient. There are a lot of people that have tickets to a lot of games they aren't going to be able to make, and they have no experience selling them off. I would suspect that tickets to most games will be readily available on craigslist, ebay, stubhub, the season ticket exchange, for face value or very close to it for most games. There is panic buying going on right now for Sox/Cubs, and opening day. People are paying $150 a seat to sit in the top row. You will be able to do better than that. Remember the playoffs. Ticket prices went down as game time approach, except for maybe the WS.
  6. White Sox fan's bitterness over Magglio's leaving is so puzzling. HE DID THE WHITE SOX A FAVOR. If he would have re-signed, the Sox would have come in second AGAIN.
  7. QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 20, 2006 -> 09:22 AM) Yes they do. Everytime we take our nieces and nephews they walk us around with the stroller and they turn the wheel for each one of us. I've never seen that. Learn something new everyday.
  8. QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 20, 2006 -> 08:02 AM) They still count. And yes you can have more people then tickets sold or comp'd. Children under turnstyle height don't need a ticket. And if they are under turnstile height, they aren't going to get counted by the turnstile or anything else.
  9. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Feb 20, 2006 -> 07:06 AM) See my thinking is this. Borch may never get it. But I still think he would provide the same amount of power, that Gonzalez would (and then you've got to take into consideration Gone's injury problems). And with the whole roids issue, I think the Sox are probably gonna stay away, but that's JMHO. You may be right, but KW has been on Juan's tail for a few years. If that Ordonez/Garciaparra trade would have happened a couple of years ago, Gonzalez would have been Magglio's replacement. As to the roids issue, one of minor leaguers the Sox signed and invited to camp was the first player MLB suspended for roids last season. I do think if the Sox were really considering this, we would have heard more about it by now.
  10. He would come very cheap. Cheaper than Timo. If he accepted the fact he was a 4th outfielder, pinch hitter, and a once in a while DH against tough left handers, he might not be a bad guy to have around. There is no way you could count on him for a full season, but picking his spots, if he hit like he hit in 2003, he would be excellent.
  11. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Feb 18, 2006 -> 08:18 PM) The Reds can't afford to get rid of decent pitching. Hancock was listed at 6'3", 207 pounds so if he gained 17 pounds he's still only 224 pounds. 6'3", 224 pounds is hardly overweight. Another team will pick him up in no time. What he's listed at might have been his weight in high school.
  12. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 19, 2006 -> 08:50 AM) It isn't reported for publicity reason, would be my guess. There is a legal limit, a max capacity, and the facility has to be able to prove they don't have too many inside the park. That is why there are turnstiles with counters. Why else would they count people going in and out? I don't believe the turnstiles have counters anymore. Those hand held things are probably more accurate. I'm sure they keep track of the attendance actual and tickets sold or accounted for, but remember this you aren't going to ever have more people than total of tickets either comped or sold. I don't believe the fire marshall is ever going to have a problem with the amount of people at USCF. As far as vendors and White Sox employees having to "swipe" in, that's pretty routine practice today. I would venture to guess that's more for security reasons than worrying about going over capacity.
  13. I think the weight he supposedly lost has been found.
  14. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Feb 18, 2006 -> 06:44 PM) Does 16-11, 8-8 in the Big 10 get IU in? I think they'll either be 15-12, 7-9 or the record above. Guess their play in the Big 10 Tourney will be the deciding factor. 16-11,8-8 gets Mike Davis an extra home game or 2 in the NIT unless they make a great run in the Big Ten Tournament.
  15. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Feb 18, 2006 -> 05:33 PM) Here's to a total Iowa collapse so that Alford doesn't get the IU job. Here's to Alford going to Indiana. As an Iowa alum, I don't see this guy being consistenty successful at Iowa. I do think he would be better at Indiana. He probably could recruit Indiana kids to go to IU. I think he's been at Iowa 7 years and the only guy I believe he recruited who has played in the NBA is Reggie Evans, a JUCO transfer. Haluska will probably see time in the NBA, but anyone else on the current roster is doubtful.
  16. Most people on this board would have an entirely different opinion on this issue if the same thing was said but ARod was playing for the White Sox and Ozzie was managing the Yankees, or if it was Dusty Baker who said these things. Ozzie rarely apologizes. He did this time. That pretty much proves he was very wrong. I think the apology should be enough to bring this story to a close.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 17, 2006 -> 02:41 PM) keep the faith, tickets will become available throughout the season. That's what a lot of people aren't realizing. There are a ton of people sitting on 81 game plans that have no desire to go to a quarter of those games. Ebay and craigslist will be loaded with tickets this year. And there will be a lot of people unloading by USCF.
  18. Ozzie is really backpedalling about the ARod thing now. Kudos to him for apologizing.
  19. QUOTE(daa84 @ Feb 17, 2006 -> 03:03 PM) this move is sooo stupid...its the first day of spring training and we already blew the season Exactly. Now that 2006 is over, what are the Sox plans for 2007?
  20. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Feb 17, 2006 -> 03:23 PM) "In this photo provided by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office for Major League Baseball player Albert Belle is shown in a booking mug on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006. Belle was arrested in Scottsdale, Ariz. on Thursday and charged with stalking. Belle tracked his ex-girlfriend with a GPS device and repeatedly threatened her, according to a police probable cause statement filed in support of stalking charges. He made an initial court appearance late Thursday, and a judge set bail at $108,000, ordered him to be electronically monitored and to stay away from the victim." He doesn't look too happy. It also looks like Albert hasn't missed many meals since his playing days ended.
  21. QUOTE(knightni @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 11:52 PM) Guillen World Titles: 3 Braves '95 as a player, Marlins '03 as a coach, Sox '05 as a manager. Ozzie was with the White Sox in 95. He played in one WS in 1999 with the Braves and was 0-5. The Braves lost that WS to the Yankees. I really doubt you can give much credit to the thirdbase coach for Florida's championship in 2003. He does deserve a lot of credit for the White Sox championship, of course. I've never understood judging players by World Titles especially in team sports. If that were the criteria Timo Perez would now be considered superior to Albert Pujols, Vlad Guerrero, Bobby Abreu, etc.
  22. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 09:46 PM) What for Albert or the story? It just seems weird to me they would hold him without bond because of an allegation of stalking. People shoot people dead for no reason and get bond. Its not like Albert is going to be able to hide anywhere, he's pretty well known.
  23. Albert Belle was arrested today and charged with stalking his ex-girlfriend. Didn't he recently get married? Its just a wire story on espn.com's baseball section, so who really knows if its true or not, but he supposedly is being held without bond. Does that seem right?
  24. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 07:08 PM) Timeline Alford Hired at Iowa Bobby Knight fired Mike Davis instated as Interim coach Alford given extension Davis named head coach There was no job offer, but there wasn't exactly an interview process either. But back then Alford made it clear he was interested in the job. He has not done that this time, at least up until now. As an Iowa graduate, I was very excited when they brought Alford in. I would have mixed emotions if he were to leave. I think the University really stood by him when he was getting a lot of shots because of Pierce, most of which were unfair IMO. Most schools would have canned him with that situation, and the dissappointing results. I think he has done a good job this year, but he still isn't recruiting studs, and this success could easily be a one year thing. I just have the feeling if he leaves, I'll be pissed, but if he stays, a year from now I will be shaking my head asking myself "why didn't he leave?" George Raveling recruited awesomely his 3 seasons at Iowa. Unfortunately he couldn't coach a game worth a s***. Dr. Tom coached pretty well, but he recruited average players. The overlap with Raveling's players and Dr. Tom's coaching were the high times for the Hawkeyes after Lute Olson headed west.
  25. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 06:57 PM) A-Rod's ball-slapping incident on Bronson Arroyo was pretty ghey though. I lost any respect for him after that weak s***. It was his only option. He was dead meat. The blame for ARod's waffling should be laid directly on whoever is overseeing this event. They should be the one's determining which team ARod should play for. Maybe they should have Ozzie decide where all the questionable players will play.
