  1. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 08:28 PM) Paulie popping up and Everett striking out with men on was a huge flashback to our 3-4-5 hitters against Seattle in 2000. 2000 playoffs. Maggs, Lee, Frank, and Konerko combined 3-40. Frank and Konerko combined 0-18.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 08:23 PM) Just be thankful this slump is taking place now, and not in two weeks. It's a good thing that Ozzie/KW are seeing this team struggle right now. I don't think it's critical to say they've been a little full of themselves lately. I've seen way too many comments about how if it's not broke, we won't fix it. This terrible homestand has shown the powers that be the holes on this team can't be ignored if they want the ultimate prize. You're exactly right, its good that this happens now rather than 2 weeks from now when trying to fix it becomes even harder.
  3. QUOTE(Big Hurtin @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 08:21 PM) Damn, people just don't get it. There are still over two months of baseball left to play before the playoffs. Being 10 games up doesn't mean anything. Talk to me after they play the Red Sox, Yankees, and Twins (who have been a second half team for years). Unfortuately, it will be past the trading deadline. Kenny doesn't want to upset chemistry. This team will fade and get bounced out of the playoffs if they still get in. All because they were content to be good, and afraid to be great. KW is going to do something. It may not be the right thing, but at least he'll do something.
  4. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 08:06 PM) The problem is that there really isn't a whole lot on the trade market in terms of players who will significantly upgrade the offense. Mackowiak or Freel would be nice additions, but there needs to be a massive revamping of the infield which KW seems to be afraid of, and I don't really blame him much. As much as I would have been opposed to this as little as a week ago, I think KW should make a run at Griffey. With Thomas out, he can save his legs part time and DH him. He still has prodigious power. His bat has slowed so he may flourish in the breaking ball happy AL. I have no idea what Cincinatti would want. I doubt they want any outfielders, and how much you gave up probably is tied to how much of the contract you are willing to assume.
  5. There has to be better odds of Contreras actually pitching well against Boston than Miller getting through a game unscathed. I think tomorrow is a big game for the psyche of this team. They have already established in their minds that they can't beat Oakland. They are now in the process of establishing in their minds they can't beat Boston. Its very possible both of those teams are in the playoffs. I also hope they make up their minds quickly about Thomas and not let his status drag on like it did last season.
  6. Paulie swing at the first pitch out of the zone down 3-0
  7. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:31 PM) Is it his fault no one drives him in? No its not. That's why it might not hurt if he got himself on 3rd base or 2nd base or drove himself in, and not have Iguchi have to give himself up to move him along when Iguchi could try to drive him in himself.
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:27 PM) This Pods is a lot better than the overswinging Pods from last season. I'm not so sure. He scored 100 runs with Milwaukee in 2003 and 85 last year hitting .244. He is on pace for about 90 this year.
  9. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:22 PM) Pods is the least of our troubles in this lineup. I'm just saying he could save his body some pounding, and Iguchi would be probably appreciate not having to get himself in a hole giving him the opportunity to swipe second. He hit quite a few triples the last couple of years, and I think 19 homers. So he has shown he can drive the ball in the past.
  10. If Pods would get some extra base hits he wouldn't have to steal so much, and Iguchi would have an easier time when he batted.
  11. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:17 PM) Wade Miller is a damn good pitcher, how do you figure he's one of the worst? Sox hitters are way off tonite but this guy is damn good, ask the Cubs. Not making excuses for Sox hitting, they are not executing, but to call Miller one of the worst? No way. (waits for someone to trot out some window of stats to show he is indeed one of the worst) He hasn't won a game in almost 2 months. But he does have a nice career record.
  12. I wonder if Ortiz would have developed if he had remained with the Twins.
  13. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:04 PM) Unfortunately, he is the best 1st baseman out on the market this year in Free Agency. I would rather use his money to add another top line starter and a reliever and let Gload and a cheap right handed first baseman from FA plantoon at 1st. You could always trade for a big contract, or get an oufielder and have Dye play firstbase starting with spring training. I am not as sold on Gload as a lot of people. I really think he's a journeyman who had a big September last year.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 06:58 PM) Streaky? He's been pretty consistent in my book. He's struggled all season hitting, besides the long ball. He used to be a very good all-around hitter. He's completely changed his approach at the plate. This goes back to the opinion on his not aging well. He's 29, his power has increased, his average has really dipped and his strikeout rate is rising. He's doing things elite players do in their mid to late 30s. I hope the Sox find another way to spend $40-50 million other than giving it to him.
  15. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 06:51 PM) You're a joke. I've been pissed off at other posters on this board, and I'm sure I've pissed off plenty. Soxprano's is the first I've ever put on ignore. I can't possibly ever see where he would post anything I would find informative or intelligent.
  16. I really think Kannapolis would have scored 4 or 5 runs off Miller by now.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 06:46 PM) Someone might want to tell PK that this is a contract year! Somebody is going to give him a 4 or 5 year contract. He might have a year like he had last year, but whoever signs him will be asking other teams if they would be interested in taking the contract for at least the last 2 years of the deal. He's not going to age well.
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 06:43 PM) Please tell me we're not discussing if Manny is a good hitter or not. Oh no. I know he's a great hitter.
  19. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 06:38 PM) No unlike Rowand.. manny makes u pay when runners on base including with the bases loaded! Hence the 90 rbi compared to our great CG with 30 something, disgusting! Manny bats behind Damon, Renteria and Ortiz. The guy is constantly batting with guys on base. He also gets paid $20 million a year. Boston waived Mr. Clutch a couple of years ago, and any team could have had him if they just took the contract. There were no takers.
  20. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 06:31 PM) 2 or 3 games u call that a gamer! Look at Manny every game he delivers a big hit.. sort of like Baines use with us! Rowand is not that good people get over it! Big deal he likes the Bears .. give mne some guy that loves soccer and produces for the Sox than some chump thta likes Da' bears and cant do crap! We wanna win baseball games here, not a popularity contest.. hes a great guy but does nothing productive day in and night out for us! If Manny delivered a big hit every game how come Boston isn't 30 games over .500?
  21. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 06:28 PM) look up his bases loaded stats ? Thats why the guys is leading the league with 30 something rbi's... yeah ! According to espn.com he is 2-7 with 5 rbi with the bases loaded this season.
  22. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 06:21 PM) hes like 0-9 with bases loaded clutch my ass! he's 4-38 with bases loaded in his career some pathetic stat like that.. clutch guess again! Rowand hit a homer to win a game against SD. He also had a big hit with 2 out in the 9th in that miraculous comeback against LA.
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 06:17 PM) Fair enough. I don't recall ever telling anyone I don't vent. If anyone ever told me that no venting is allowed on soxtalk, then I wouldn't do it. It would be hard to give up cold turkey.
  24. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 06:06 PM) Here's what I don't get, if Clement the ace of the Red Sox staff has an off night we should rock him but if a mediocre pitcher has a great night we should still rock him. Baseball doesn't work like that. Miller has been horrible lately and isn't exceptionally sharp tonight. He has no business not being scored upon at this time.
  25. Its nice to see AJ hitting the ball with some authority again.
