Tony Graffanino
Do you think there is any chance the Sox would consider Harris a candidate to play CF?

Tony Graffanino
QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 10:46 AM) Not that stats are the be-all end-all but I just looked up Tony's fielding stats at 3B for the last several years. Ouch. Tony was brutal with the glove when he played for the Sox. They had the sweep against the Cubs, but Tony G. thought they had a force when they needed an easy tag.

QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 10:43 AM) Pablo is the perfect 25th guy but they want a more proficient backup at 3B, and understandably so with Crede's iffy back. Pablo was brutal defensively at third for most of the season, but did improve toward the end. I'm sure they would love to have Mueller play a supersub role, and that apparenty isn't going to happen. The question I would have is if the Sox got a guy like Mueller to play this supersub type of role, and Crede's back held up,(Ken Rosenthal hinted the Sox would have to trade Crede or non tender him for Mueller to sign), how much playing time would Harris and Ozuna get? Ozuna would spell Uribe, but Harris would probably be a pinch runner. Certainly not enough to take up 2 roster spots.

Farmers new partner
Tommy isn't the greatest broadcaster in the world, but the Score is trying to fill this position on the cheap, so he may be the best they can do.

Phils, Cubs talk Abreu-for-Prior swap
The Cubs are not going to trade Prior. No way, not for anyone.

Juan Pierre Traded
QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 03:11 PM) What do you expect Kenny to say? We absolutely need Pierre, Ozzie loves him and wont stop b****ing at me to trade for him. Thatll help negotations. SB He said he NEVER has called the Marlins about Pierre. He isn't coming to to the Sox.

Angels & Sox looking at Crawford
The White Sox aren't going to trade BMac, especially after they see what pitchers are getting this offseason. He is going to be cheap for several years. They are going to need that to be able to address other areas. On the other hand, if TB really would do a Crawford/Fields deal, which I find impossible to believe, KW should be stitching Crawford's name on the back of a White Sox jersey himself.

Levine on this morning AM 1000
QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 11:03 AM) You guys are absolutely correct, Graffanino would be a good fallback option. But at this stage of his career he's better suited to 2B, especially after his shoulder injury. 2B is where he'd like to land a starting job, but yes, he is definitely an option for the White Sox and as mentioned in this thread, the Sox could do worse. I don't think there's a chance in hell the Sox will trade any starting pitching. This world baseball classic is coming up which will tax Garcia and Buehrle, plus the starters threw a ton of innings last year. They will need every bit of depth that 6 starters provide. As for Freel, I don't think the Reds want to deal him even though he's arbitration eligible. I suspect they'd want to focus on their bigger needs first - young cheap starting pitching - and Freel is a good bargaining chip for the Reds in a possible larger deal. The more I think about this, the more I sense the Sox have their eyes on minor league veterans we've never heard of, that is if they can't land Mueller. The guy they bring in will be versatile though - someone who can for sure play 3B and 2B and maybe 1B and some OF too. That's why Freel is a great fit, plus he adds speed and a good batting eye. But that doesn't mean there's a good match between Cincinnati and the White Sox. Tony G's glove leaves a lot to be desired, although offensively he is a pretty good hitter playing part-time.

Burnett signs with Toronto
Considering all the clamouring for Burnett on this board back in May and June, I specifically remember being told he was so much better than Contreras, its hard to believe anyone would think his new contract is anything but a bargain.

Bears vs Packers
Orton has more NFL game experience than Grossman. Orton does seem to be regressing a bit. Obviously, we aren't around practice, and have seen so little of Grossman and really don't know how he looks right now, but if passes can't be completed, it may be time for Rex to get on the field. The Bears are legitimate Super Bowl contenders with an average offense. I just don't see them winning games in the playoffs with zero offensive touchdowns like today, or 1 offensive touchdown when the defense gets them the ball on the 1 yard line.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 05:34 PM) the BCS got it right this year though. Well in terms of the #1 and #2 teams. A chimp could have got it right this year.

Free agent resource.
QUOTE(daa84 @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 04:57 PM) same here...glaus + vazquez is a massive amount of money, if you ask me that would only ever even come close to happening in a 3 way trade Maybe Arizona is using strategy with Vazquez. Its doubtful there is a team out there that would be willing to pick up both his and Glaus' contracts. Vazquez demanded a trade so if he isn't traded by a certain date, he becomes a free agent. Given his performance the last couple of seasons, its hard to imagine he would be in line for a contract that pays him as much as his current one, so he either recinds the request, or Arizona lets him go and saves a ton of money.

Bowl Games
QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 04:55 PM) Iowa lost to Michigan. Michigan beat Iowa at Iowa. That put a stop to Iowa's win streak at home. Look Michigan shouldn't be in this position because they didn't play well this season however they were much better than Iowa. Much better? They had the same record and beat Iowa by 3 when the Hawks weren't playing well. Iowa also blew a game in the last minute to Northwestern they should have won. Much better Michigan is not. The bottom line is that no matter what Michigan's fan base is, Iowa's travels more, and they want these fans in the stadium and spending money in their city. Iowa faced Florida 2 years ago when Zook was running Florida's program, and absolutely crushed them. I thought Trev Albert was going to go down on Ferentz the way he was talking him up.

Bill Mueller To Sox?
QUOTE(TLAK @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 03:47 PM) You pretty much have it. It was 5 years ago so I couldn't find the article on the web. The White Sox offered what Boras initially had said it would take to sign him and then Boras rejected it, which stunned them. The Sox felt that Arod wasn't being told what was going on and tried to have meeting with him but Boras froze them out. He got an extra 60 million dollars out of the Rangers -rumor has it he got that by fabricating offers from other teams when they actually had dropped out. On the Fernandez deal, Boras told the Sox not make any offers until the free agency period. After Alex signed with the Marlins, he said he was miffed at the Sox for not trying to sign him earlier, he was obvously unaware of Boras' shenanagans. So again, the Sox thought Boras lied and screwed them. Add the Magglio tactics to this list and you can see why the White Sox would prefer not to deal with Boras. The White Sox never made an offer to ARod. They had one prepared but wanted to meet with ARod with Boras not in attendance. It wasn't allowed to happen, and so what. He got offered $252 million, probably almost double what any other team would have offered him. How could anyone blame him for taking that offer?

Mark Loretta Available?
QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 08:39 AM) Guillen wants somebody who can hit lefthanded in that role, so the focus is on Bill Mueller for now. Mueller may be headed to SF.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 02:34 PM) He's a poor man's Mark Buerhle. Considering what some other very mediocre pitchers are getting, its amazing this guy isn't getting the interest, unless he and his agent are flying under the radar. I just read in a NY paper Washburn is rep'd by Boras. He is looking for $9 million a year for 5 years.

Furcal is now a dodger
QUOTE(beck72 @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 05:23 AM) I first see the Cubs targetting a SS who can hit leadoff. Julio Lugo from the d-rays fits that. Then they might target Pierre. If the Cubs get Lugo, they'll still be looking for some LH Ofers who can hit w/ power. Lugo is supposedly earmarked for Atlanta. The beautiful thing about this is players are actually turning away the chance to play for Dusty in the Urinal. If you read the Tribune, you would think it is every player's dream to put on the Cubs uniform and play in that disaster area.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 01:52 PM) I wonder why no one has made a push at Washburn. He's a lefty whose not very hold. He's puts in his innings and had a 3.20 ERA last year (albeit not a record to brag about). He may be the one guy thats a little under-valued at this point of FA (that or he's asking for a ridiculous contract). He's a poor man's Mark Buerhle. Considering what some other very mediocre pitchers are getting, its amazing this guy isn't getting the interest, unless he and his agent are flying under the radar.

Thank You Frank Thomas.
QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 02:04 PM) I don't think we're specualting any more ESPN is reporting that Frank will be released. They probably mean he won't be offerred arbitration. He's a free agent, his option was declined. He can't be released.

Mayo is the most disgusting thing ever invented. I hate all salad dressing, saurkraut, not a huge fan of mustard, broccoli is sickening as is tuna.

QUOTE(Steff @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 07:08 AM) Forgive me.. kindof.. but I think I've said exactly that several times already. And, again, I don't know where you heard Frank and Kenny are "friends".. but aside from professional courtesy, they are not. "Friends" don't try to trade you away when they think their boss isn't looking... "friends" don't talk s*** about you to the media... and "friends" don't disclose personal rifts. Kenny has been nothing but UNPROFESSIONAL where Frank is concerned.. and was called on it a few years ago at Soxfest - - and admitted as much. Exactly. Despite perhaps an improved relationship between the two this past season, KW has been waiting for this day for several years. Fortunately for him, the circumstances made what has happened a no-brainer or this could have been real ugly, way uglier than the Ordonez departure if JR allowed it to happen. The White Sox could not possibly depend on Frank ever being healthy again.

Official: Konerko Signs With White Sox
I think you have to give a lot of credit for Paulie re-signing to White Sox fans who stepped up and bought season tickets at a fever clip this offseason. With the club level and scout seats sold out, these are a couple of the priciest areas and have generated some extra revenue for JR and KW to spend on players.

QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 02:25 PM) It's great we were able to bring him back and not have to trade the farm in order to find his replacement. That is a good point. I really thought he'd sign with the Angels.
