White Sox vs Cubs Game One Thread 5-20-05
Does anyone what Ozzie was talking to the home plate umpire about between 3 or 4 innings? I would imagine he was reminding him the Garcia was going to pitch their hitters inside so he wouldn't get tossed from the game and suspended.

White Sox vs Cubs Game One Thread 5-20-05
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 20, 2005 -> 03:41 PM) How'd Borowski do today? I get a feeling he will play a big part later in the series. He may have gone unscathed today, but Crede's ball is on Waveland most days. Pods K'd but he was irritated. I was sitting about 10 rows behind home plate and Joe looked very hittable and wasn't throwing very hard.

Busty with another classic quote...
He's an idiot no doubt about it. But in this case he probably is referring to being able to keep your muscles loose which is a lot easier to do in the heat. I

Eric Chavez to the Whitesox?????
Eric Chavez will not be playing for the White Sox anytime soon.

Eric Chavez to the Whitesox?????
There is no way the White Sox are going to add $10 million to their payroll. Attendance hasn't improved that much.

Eric Chavez to the Whitesox?????
QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 19, 2005 -> 07:59 AM) Well, they suck right now but will probably be good in the future with their young talent. Maybe Beane wants to dump his contract so he can clear up some money for the future? Here's the thread from the MLB.com A's board... "Eric Chavez to the Whitesox?" http://www.forums.mlb.com/n/mb/message.asp...g=36586.1&ctx=0 Keep in mind it's a MLB.com board and they are filled with lying trolls. This has to be BS. Why would Beane trade the only star that actually signed an extension with him, and get Crede who if he does any good will never be able to be signed in Oakland, remember he is represented by Boras, and minor leaguers he had no interest in when he was trading his rotation? The person who posted this has a generic handle, so its probably someone trying to get a rise out of people.

Jamie Burke or Ben Davis
Let's get real on the value of these 2. First Ben Davis. He was a throw- in by these same Mariners last year, and hasn't played well enough to be in the major leagues. Jaime Burke has been available to Seattle 2 or 3 times for the $20,000 waiver price. They passed both times. I know their circumstance has changed, but there is no way in hell they are going to give up a decent relief pitcher for either of these guys.

Sheyer
QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ May 17, 2005 -> 03:32 PM) This recruitment has been done for months and Illinois never had a chance for Scheyer to be completely honest. He is a good player who will probably be a solid contributor of the bench for Duke. But he is not athletic at all, and is going to struggle big time on the defensive side of the ball so he is going to the right school because he can learn to flop and hand check without getting caught. He can score but I like guys who can play good D and I don't think Scheyer can do that. I still wanted him mostly from the PR standpoint but would prefer Willie Kemp to Scheyer anyways. I really think you're underestimating this kid. He may not be the most athletic, but he's certainly no stiff. He is a smart player with excellent fundamentals. He's rated one of the top recruits in the country by most services.

Sheyer
The big question with Weber was will he be able to recruit. This was Self's team still this year. If Self would have stayed another season Charlie Villenueva would have been wearing an Illini uniform, and the Illini would probably have a huge trophy in Champaign right now. I'm a Hawkeye and don't care for the Illini at all, although I did pull for the Big Ten in the championship, and I believe Weber did himself proud with his coaching and the way he carries himself. It will only help him recruiting. Players are going to want to play for him. He's in on many big names and only has to hit on a couple to have a great team. Losing a guy to Duke, even though he is from your state and coached by your brother never is going to look bad.

SRO
QUOTE(shakes @ May 17, 2005 -> 09:35 AM) I'll be there Friday and maybe Saturday. I have no problem going to Sox road games anywhere else, so why should I there. I enjoy baseball games in any park and still can appreciate what Wrigley stands for. Of course, it has it's major flaws. I hope Zambrano pitches Friday, because I don't want any excuses. Besides, he'll probably be on a tight pitch count so we'll get to their pathetic bullpen early. I'm going to all three. I don't care if its a dump. I'm going to support my team.

Carl Everett
QUOTE(fathom @ May 16, 2005 -> 09:12 PM) Everett has been absolutely brutal with RISP lately, especially with less than 2 outs. His GIDP was a killer tonight.
-
Get ready for Carl in the OF
If Everett starts playing the field, what's the over/under on how many days until he is on the DL? It has to be under 5.

meeting the players
QUOTE(Steff @ May 16, 2005 -> 09:59 AM) Of course.. :rolly BTW, how long ago was this..? I'm thinking 5 or 6 years ago.

meeting the players
QUOTE(Steff @ May 16, 2005 -> 09:57 AM) From what you're saying they all didn't like the change.. I don't know if it was everyone, but most of them, and in true Chicago media form it was all blamed on Frank.
-
meeting the players
The gates open an hour and a half before the game. The visiting team always takes batting practice last. If you get there when the gates open you will only see the visiting team hit in just about every park in MLB. Several years ago the White Sox actually switched and hit last so the early arriving fans would see them take BP instead of the visiting team. That was ended because the players didn't like the change in routine. It was reported that it was ended because Frank Thomas didn't like it.

Which Players have you met?
QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ May 15, 2005 -> 10:22 PM) I knew Smith came up with someone else, I just couldn't remember who and which one won it...... Smith did come up with the Cubs. I believe he was runner up to Walton in ROY voting that year.

Zambrano yanked again
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 14, 2005 -> 09:23 PM) On top of getting rocked, he was yanked in the 4th for "forearm tightness'. It's only a matter of time, he's the next arm casualty. You're right about that. He's had those cramps a few times. Forearm stiffness the start after Dusty leaves the 23 year old stud in for 135 pitches. I hope he's managing the Cubs for the next 25 years. He won't because they will run out of pitchers with his abuse.

GARCIA HAS NO BALLS!!!!!
QUOTE(knightni @ May 14, 2005 -> 09:42 PM) I still stand behind my "Garcia is average" statement. I think he's better than average. He's not the ace many thought he was. He's not the pitcher he was 4 or 5 years ago, but he can still be dominating. He's had a couple bad games in a row. It happens. Remember when Buerhle was 2-10 a couple of years ago? Freddy is a solid #3( not many teams have a #3 who can hold his jock) which is exactly what he is with Garland stepping up.
-
GARCIA HAS NO BALLS!!!!!
Maybe Freddy's inner ear infection has returned.

GARCIA HAS NO BALLS!!!!!
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 14, 2005 -> 09:28 PM) While this game was hard to watch.... We have to remember we are still 27-10 and in position to take 3 out of 4 from one of the hottest teams in baseball besides us. And to add in all the hate, I think the biggest mistake of the game was when Cora sent Konerko home... that was just dumb, i understand Cora is aggressive but that was more dumb than aggressive. Joey has to quit waving guys in who are out by 40 feet. That was ridiculous. Sending Garcia out in the 7th was a bonehead move. Only having Cotts warm up left me scratching my head. Vizcaino has appeared in 12 games coming into tonight. He seemed like he was in every game the first 2 weeks of the season, but has rarely pitched recently. Politte and Marte should be well rested. Use the bullpen.

GARCIA HAS NO BALLS!!!!!
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ May 14, 2005 -> 08:56 PM) His velocity may be down, I don't really know what his pattern is there, and I wasn't really watching today. But I'm pretty sure Cabrera throws it harder, anyway. The gun at USCF had Cabrera at 95 most of the night, and Garcia between 91 and 93. Freddy's not pitching in Seattle anymore, his ERA is going to go up, but he'll be alright. He's better than he pitched tonight. When Cotts has control he is tough. Unfortunately he rarely has control, and its not going to come to him pitching every 8th or 9th day. IMO Walker is a waste of a roster spot.

Help Getting to the cell from Union Station.:)
If you have 2 or 3 guys with you, it would cost just a little more to take a taxi. Far more convenient from Union Station if you ask me.

Which Players have you met?
QUOTE(JimH @ May 13, 2005 -> 12:58 PM) My dad, uncle, and cousin ran into Hawk Harrelson in the Plaza area of Kansas Notable exception: Pat Foley, Blackhawk broadcaster. Nothing but bad stories about him. I used to play basketball with Pat Foley at the YMCA in Des Plaines several years ago. He was sort of an ass, and one of those players that thought he was pretty good when in reality he sucked big time.

Tim Kurkjian's underachievers...
Ozzie can't continue with these 2 clowns in the 4 and 5 hole much longer. Its time to move them down in the order until they start to hit. Konerko did have a big hit Wednesday, but they have been few and far between lately. Dye has just been brutal. Keep Rowand 3rd, have Everett bat clean-up, put either AJ or Crede 5th, the other one 6th, Konerko 7th and Dye, if he must play 8th. Or even move Uribe to the 5 hole. He appears to be ready to go on a real hot streak now.
