QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 04:28 PM) Cotts as a starter? You've just got to be kidding me. Our bullpen has had enough difficulties lately, the last thing I want to do is rob it of 1 of its lefthanders. Would we bring Walker back up to take Cotts's spot in the pen? (shuddering). The fact is this...there is no one who could take over McCarthy's position as a backup to the Cubans (or anyone else who gets hurt) in our organization right now. This means that if anyone does get hurt and we've already traded BMac, either our chance at a title ends right there or we have to go and pay an even higher price for a pitcher. What happens if BMac is traded and on August 15th Contreras or El Duque go down with season ending injuries? You're past the trading deadline then without a backup plan. And Oh yeah, you're starting a 3 game set with the Twins. You would hope it was Garland, Buerhle, and Garcia's turn to pitch. Or maybe the Count. He's pitched pretty damn good this season, and go to a 4 man rotation.

QUOTE(mrzo2733 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 04:10 PM) I gotta admit, I really wanted the Sox to trade for Kendall last year. I was so wrong. Glad they didn't. I think KW actually tried to get him, but couldn't come to an agreement. Pittsburgh is paying some, if not most of his salary.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 03:53 PM) After his interview on DP today.. saying that the A's are "horrible".. I'd guess the fans wouldn't mind him leaving one bit. If the White Sox were in the A's position and one of the Sox players went on a radio show and said the Sox were horrible, I would appreciate it. They are horrible.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 03:35 PM) Kind of like giving up jeremy Reed then siging Freddy to a long term contract? :rolly Its an off day. Gives the board a topic to discuss. Most of Freddy's contract last season was picked up by Seattle. They were able to sign him to an extension because the Sox had a ton of $ coming off the books after last season. They do have Konerko perhaps coming of the books next year, and Frank may be bought out for $3.5 million, Everett may go, but Garland should get a huge raise as will AJ and several others. The Sox are in an entirely different position. Even if Oakland picked up most of Chavez's salary this season, which I really doubt they would, they would have a budget problem in 2006 and beyond if they took on this contract. And Beane would have to also consider how this trade would go down with the Oakland fans. It could be enough to run them out of town.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 03:29 PM) Being the 1 run producer on a team diving down to last place, or being 1 of 3-4 serious run producers on the team with the best record in baseball...It isn't tough to see which situation carries a lot more pressure. How much pressure is it playing on a non-contender?

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 03:21 PM) Wow, sorry Mr. Know-It-All. It's in the Daily Herald for a reason. Are you Kenny Williams' or Billy Beane's right-hand man that you know for a fact that this trade won't happen? :rolly Its in the Herald as a rumor. The guy even wrote most rumors are jokes. You want to know where he got this rumor? From the phony who called MJH and said he heard it on sports radio in the Bay Area, or the guy who said Ken Rosenthal said this deal was being discussed, which was proved to false because someone either on this board or WSI e-mailed Rosenthal himself, and he denied ever saying it and doubted it would ever happen. Or he got i tfrom one of the boards. Think about it. The White Sox giving up their gem of a prospect and picking up a huge and long-term contract at the same time? They don't operate like that.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 03:16 PM) Right! Similar to what Pods said he did with Milwaukee last season. He simply tried to do too much. After Pods went back to what he knows how to get on base and didn't try too hard to too other things he turned back into the player he was in his rookie season. If Chavez is in a new atmosphere and realizes he wont need to do as much in this lineup as they expect him to due in Oakland- we will see a BIG increase in his average and his hitting. Why wouldn't he need to do as much in the White Sox line-up? If the job requires little, why trade one of the best starting pitcher prospects in baseball, a guy who plays the same position and has better numbers than him, and pick up the balance of his huge contract? If you trade for Chavez, which the White Sox are not by the way, you are going to expect huge production. Its not as if the weight of the world will be off his shoulders.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 01:22 PM) Our offense sucks and we could use another decent bat that can very likely heat up. Maybe its just a 2 month slump, but Chavez is hitting .218 with 4 homers and 47 k's in just over 200 at bats. I don't see where he's helping the offense. He's also taking less walks than in previous years.

Chavez used to hang with the Giambi boys, didn't he? His performance this season is down drastically. I'm not accusing him of anything, but it makes me wonder.

With a .218 average he would feel right at home in the heart of the White Sox line-up.

QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 09:19 AM) The sad thing is I agree...He has become the mad scientist with this team. Ozzieball has become toss junk together, call it his "feel" and try to win the game. Heck, the sox almost came back last night, despite his "feelings". Uribe was a little quick on that one pitch last night or they would have won.

QUOTE(quickman @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 09:11 AM) Ok thats my point!!!!!!!!!!!! I think the team's success has swelled Ozzie's ego so much that he thinks he can win with whatever crap he throws out there.

Our manager is clueless with the bullpen
If Konerko isn't hurt, and your only option is to play Timo at 1B, and you have an off day the next day.......Why does Konerko need to be rested? Its baseball, not too grueling of a sport. If it had been 90 degrees with 85% humidity the last couple of weeks maybe, but that and inserting Walker were two of the dopiest moves I have ever seen made. I bet you Konerko feels the same this morning whether he played last night or not.

QUOTE(nvxplorer @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 09:56 PM) Which is why I said virtual rookie. If not for his first big league season in 2000, I believe he would be classified as a rookie. From '01-'04, he's appeared in 16, 11, 11 and 5 games. 28 2/3 innings pitched over a four year span. For all intents and purposes, evaluating his performance at this level is no different than evaluating a rookie. He's untested, unproven. That was the point I was making. It's not like the Sox management can use past performance in evaluating and deciding whether to keep him or send him down. If he had been lights out for that inning or even two, he might have earned a roster spot. They may be what Ozzie and KW were trying to determine. Trying to determine if a guy is worthy of a roster spot by throwing him into that situation when he has appeared in exactly 1 game for 1 inning the last 17 days would the craziest thing Ozzie has ever done.

QUOTE(Wanne @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 09:53 PM) Not to pile on Oz like he deserves with a) Timo at 1st and B) Walker which I think everybody is agreed upon. But did anybody see PK go up to OZ and say, "hey...lemme hit..." or "I'm f***in battin Skip"? Didn't I read already that PK was completely given the night off and skipped pregame as well? My point is...if PK had some nads...he shoulda thrown 'em on the table. He looked a little perplexed in the dugout when he didn't get a chance. If Uribe only waited a millisecond more on the next to last pitch, the Sox win 11-10.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 09:41 PM) He doesn't drop that throw to 1st and this thread doesn't exist. Timo is f***ing horrible. That's true, but is it his fault he is put in a position he has never played? He was set-up to fail, and fail he did. AJ's throw could have been a lot better, but that play is made in most little league games.

Is it just coincidence, or has Ozzie's handling of the bullpen and line-ups gotten even more questionable since his contract extension?

Our manager is clueless with the bullpen
QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) I would hate to see what people consider a ''badly'' pitched game by vizcaino. The bullpen has been pretty shaky lately. It seems they have 3 balls on every batter they face. Hermanson wasn't exactly lights out tonight either.
-
Our manager is clueless with the bullpen
Vizcaino wasn't that bad tonight. He was more effective than Walker and Hermanson. He should have been brought in to start the 7th, but the Angels had 3 or 4 lefties up, and Ozzie loves lefty/lefty matchups no matter how poor his LHP is.
