Not really. They had Madrigal, a minimum guy doing a good job. Replaced him with a more expensive , less productive guy. Then replaced him with an even more expensive even less productive guy.
I had no issue with the Sox acquiring Kimbrel. I did have a problem with them giving up Madrigal , and I mentioned it right away. It was going to cost you a lot more to get what he brought. It’s costing them a lot more for lesser players.
I am assuming the Kelly signing means they have found a Kimbrel taker, but I would never have thought Harrison was their 2B solution, so that assumption may be wrong too.
Except for2005, the only year the White Sox ever won a playoff series in 99.99% of the living populations lifetime, these type of signings have mostly blown up in their face. And it seems likely it will happen again. It would have been nice if when it was time for the rebuild, JR realized part of the problem was the guys whose decisions hardly ever seemed to work out, and hired someone else to give it a shot.
