I think the only difference a ballpark could make to the White Sox popularity, is location, and across the street really wouldn't make much difference. Yes, the current park was pretty basic, especially compared to the parks built later, but IMO, they have done a nice job with renovation, and it's more than fine. I did read a Detroit Free Press writer say it just gets uglier every year. I have no idea how a guy who lives in Detroit can call anything ugly, but I think it looks really good. The ribbon board going all around now has more stats and numbers. The facade of the the club level being painted darker looks a bit better. The scoreboards are great. All we need is a really good team and we are cooking with gas.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 09:54 AM) Yeah prime Lincecum was definitely a star. Yeah, the point being, you aren't going to win with a rotation of Gavin Floyds, no matter how much some want to spin it. If Giolito is Floyd, that will be a disappointment.

QUOTE (FloydBannister1983 @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 09:16 AM) He needs to win a Cy Young or come relatively close. He hasn't come relatively close. He also can't have too many more 17 game seasons. He's also on the disabled list to start this season. Could be minor setbacks but guys like this do breakdown early. It doesn't matter, he was a star when they won the WS. Using fangraphs to determine HOF worthiness isn't always a good idea. According to them Javy Vazquez has more WAR in about 400 less innings than Mark Buehrle. I don't think there is a sole here that really would rather have Vazquez on the mound instead of Buehrle in an elimination game.

QUOTE (FloydBannister1983 @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 09:08 AM) I'm not sure about that. He's been on fewer all-star teams than Mark Buehrle and is showing signs of breaking down. He excelled in the post-season but he only finished as high as fourth in Cy Young voting. Buehrle finished fifth. He is not much more of a star than Mark Buehrle. According to Baseball Reference Hall of Fame Statistics Posey isn't Hall of Fame (yet). It's still towards the middle/end of his career and he's on the wrong side of 30. He's Paul Konerko. When the Giants won the WS in 2012, Buster Posey was the MVP. That's a star.

QUOTE (FloydBannister1983 @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 07:34 AM) The Giants won three without a bona fide star. They had a pitcher who was definitely a star, and a HOFer behind the plate.

Trump has to be freaking out. Mueller getting canned soon. Will he get to collect unemployment?

How does Tampa Bay have only 2 runs?

I hope Archer didn't find his groove. He was very vulnerable before those last 2 ABs.

Can Ron please start a thread about how Steverson should be fired. Get the offense back.

QUOTE (Capn12 @ Apr 9, 2018 -> 02:13 PM) Keystone Kops. Seriously, this TB team is 1-9 and Gonzalez is at 50 pitches almost, with 4 outs. 45 minutes old in the top of the 2nd. Awful.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 9, 2018 -> 01:44 PM) Is there any proof on the ticket for when you bought it on Stubhub (can't remember off the top of my head)? I don't think they would even pay attention. I'm sure there is, but it shouldn't matter. Technically you are buying from another person who paid full price, so the team still gets their money and a little cut of the Stubhub fee, although I am sure the team throws tickets on their all the time.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 9, 2018 -> 01:43 PM) I see... so tickets that were bought today even (after the change was announced) can still be exchanged? Yes. I wouldn't have risked it if not.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 9, 2018 -> 01:40 PM) So did all of you who bought a bunch of tickets last minute with the intention of getting them replaced due to a postponement actually go to the game? No intention. The Sox said when they changed the time from 7:10 to an afternoon game, any unused tickets can be exchange for any game other than the Cubs series.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 9, 2018 -> 12:57 PM) Whenever I read about curve balls I often wonder if the best curve ballers throw them at different speed with varying degrees of break on on them. I know the best do that but it's not something you read about very often. You do hear Hawk bring it up occasionally. So I am asking did Floyd or does Gio threw/throw different versions of the curve ? I know Gio has a couple of versions.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 9, 2018 -> 12:48 PM) Told my Tigers fan co-worker about it and now he's grabbing tickets for behind the visitor's dugout to exchange for when the Tigers come back to town. The only problem is he may not get the exact same seats. But it should be something in the same category. It's nice getting premium tickets at a nosebleed price even if technically you could probably get away with buying a cheap ticket and sit somewhere nice. Being where you are supposed to be is a lot less stress, especially if you are there with kids.

Major Syria decisions in the next 48 hours per Trump. Didn't he make a big deal about giving out timing information previously?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 9, 2018 -> 12:32 PM) Thanks for the tip. Just bought the cheapest 4 pack of club seats for $12 each. At $67 (including fees) that is cheaper than 1 club seat usually costs. I did the same thing.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 9, 2018 -> 12:40 PM) Prefer the smaller crowds. Thursday was hell waiting for beer, food, and bathrooms. The only problem with the smaller crowds is they shut down so many stands. I was there Saturday and Sunday. I really don't buy much in terms of concessions, but I usually take a lap or 2 to keep the blood flowing, and I was amazed how many stands were not opened.

Back in the late 90s, Tampa tried to bomb their way to wins. They signed Jose Canseco. There was some rainout or cold out. It might have been one of those days they used to cancel because the Bulls were playing a playoff game At any rate, they played a twi night DH to make up. We arrived the first or second batter, and there was a flyball to CF. McKay Christensen was playing CF for the Sox. We could clearly hear him calling for it 2 feet from the door of the lower concourse. There couldn't have been 100 people in the stands. Today might rival that crowd.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 9, 2018 -> 12:20 PM) Apparently the Sox have some huge charity event tomorrow night so they can't play two tomorrow. Play 2 on Wednesday. It's supposed to be 56. It will feel like 90. Steve Stone will tell us how the ballpark will be lively.

QUOTE (Richie @ Apr 9, 2018 -> 12:11 PM) An hour until first pitch... Looks like they're still planning on playing this thing? They have pushed it back to 1:30. I feel sorry for the vendor that draws dipping dot duty today.
-
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 9, 2018 -> 12:10 PM) So if you don't go to the game and it isn't PPD, you can trade your ticket in? Yes. They said any unused tickets for today can be exchanged for any game except the Cubs when they moved up the time.
