At the end of the day the team needs to part with a ton of salary AND talent. The Brewers were offering CC this money. Now they are offering this money and top level talent. There are very few teams that can join in this conversation. There is a part of me that thinks the framework for this deal was laid this past offseason or the thought of it. Should this deal get pulled off, the Swisher and Vazquez deals are what made it happen. I could also see the Sox trying to put Giles in center and lead-off or grab Eckstein in the deal.

QUOTE (bighurt574 @ May 21, 2009 -> 09:04 AM) I assume Peavy would be asking the Sox to pick up his option year. That is going to happen no matter what. This trade is like the Cutler deal and the talk about Deng for Kobe. The Sox give up any player that is not named Buerhle or Quentin within the organization that the Padres want and go from there. The guy is 27 years old and an ace that is signed long term.

Weren't the Hawks the Sporting News worst franchise in sports about two or three years ago. The changes start A with winning and being on tv everything after that is low hanging fruit. The only really big hockey move was bringing in Q and Bowman and openingthe wallrt this past offseason. The rest is cub marketing fodder that works well with the disposable income crowd. Red Carpet Opening Night Pat Foley The nightly drop the puck and celebrity shooters Hawks version fo the 7th inning stretch singers The National Anthemn guy singing at Harry Carey's for raod games The W flag Winter Calssic at Wrigley Moving radio to WGN where the playoffs games are not even carried Incorporating how great these fans, "Just listen to them patrick" as often as possible in every interview Fan convention, I think this only works for baseball because it is winter but who knows

QUOTE (fathom @ May 19, 2009 -> 09:15 PM) Hell of a performance by Pineiro tonight. Only need 93 pitches, I believe, to shut out the Cubs. Cub lineup doesn't look that much better. Carpenter is throwing again.....for how long, who knows. Dave Duncan is so underappreciated it is disgusting.

Perkins is out until mid June for them. Last season really took a toll on both of these teams. -

Rafalski is just killing this team......oh wait sorry. Gotta go find the AAA game and root for Lillibridge man did he get the shaft. Go Mark there are your two runs, make it stand up buddy. -
If the ending was know all along and therseries arc never changed and the series ended with the plane landing in L.A. I would've hoped they would have filmed this during the filiming of episode 1 season 1.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 19, 2009 -> 07:56 AM) Anyone else see that sick play at home that Mauer made on Brett Gardener the other day? http://minnesota.twins.mlb.com/news/articl...tent_id=4796334 Yep all Gardner needs to his jump over him. It was kind of liek the Jeter play during the playoffs.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ May 18, 2009 -> 08:11 PM) I wish they would give Gamel a shot at third and platoon Counsell and Weeks at second. Gamal hit a three run homer last night for them last night.

I wonder if they would take a flyer on Thome and hope for the best and I wonder if Thome would agree to it????

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 18, 2009 -> 04:15 PM) You'd be writing off Getz based on like his last 24 at bats or so. That seems very very ridiculous. Especially since its his first cup of coffee and it should be expected that he struggle and go through a period where he needs to make an adjustment. Defensviely he's fine and he's even had to go through injuries and being a leadoff hitter on a supposed contender so all in all I think he deserves at least half a season before any sort of judgement should be made. I am not writing either off I would just rather see them sent down to at least change something up and see if things can change. Nix will be hurt within a week and Getz can come back then. Both players are hitting under .240 and are striking out at must greater clips than they are drawing walks. Everyone also needs to realize that the Rangers and Blue Jays are probably the two best teams in baseball right now....is that becasue they played the Sox.....who knows. -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 18, 2009 -> 04:06 PM) Field is just starting to figure it out, and Getz is doing pretty well - not sure why you'd send those two down. And if you bring up someone from AAA as a hitter than isn't Anderson, I'd rather go with Kroeger than Phillips. Fields and Getz do not appear to figuring anything out. I liked them both as players but they started nicely and have regressed to a point where they are adding nothing to this team along with Lillibridge. Phillips can play third that is why I mentioned him. -

The Sox are in a sticky situation. They raised my season ticket price 10% this past offseason. If 2007 and 2009 are both cublike futility, I am walking. They screwed us over last offseason with the playoff deposit. If they sell guys to save money they better give it back to me....I know they won't. The Ray Durham deals don't cut it. You go down with these guys or you get guys that are going to contribute to a greater degree than the Lillbridges and Jon Adkins the world. This isthe slope Kenny Williams has made for himself. What needs to happen right now..... Send down Fields, Getz and Lillibridge. Bring up Phillips, Anderson and give any infielder in the minors a shot who may be able to not strike out and can hit mediocore pitching. s*** trade for Ozuna or Willie Harris. KW got himself into a world of s***. Then reassign Greg Walker -

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ May 18, 2009 -> 02:31 PM) What the hell is with our advanced scouting? Before anything concerning Walker or the personnel someone needs to look into the people who should be providing scouting reports on pitchers never seen. This is god damn inexcusable. Been that way for a few years now it seems. -

Getz is batting .238 and his K/BB ratio is 2:1. He is young and it is early but I am not seeing the approach tht he was suppossed to have. -

I jumped away for a moment and missed all of the fun. Not pinch hitting for Fields is inexcusable.....oh wait he may bat this inning then the right handed hitting Betemit or Lillibridge would have to face Downs. The personnel moves this team has made are freightening. I thought Ozzie was gone today as awell? -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2009 -> 01:26 PM) It's sad we think Nix has had good ABs and his batting average is .222. My excuse for him, I'd like to see him get consistent at-bats at a position he has played before. I'll keep up the excuses. You think the fact he cost his team a run and mostly likely the game is wearing on him now? -

Richard with 1.2 WHIP and doing exactly what this team needs him to do. Really sad the defense and hitting are s*** right now. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2009 -> 01:16 PM) Dye could get you something (especially if Reds are involved). Jenks is the one he should really look to move. The whole pen could get you something. If you are moving Jenks, move Thorton and Dotel as well. Some team would also over pay for Linebrink (i.e. Yankees, Red Sox , cubs) It Really is sad that the thing almost every team needs is the thing the Sox are strongest at right now. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2009 -> 01:13 PM) 2? Something going unnoticed this year is how down our power numbers are. Maybe that's why you're better off just loading up with a homer hitting team instead of trying to add speed players. I am not interested in looking but htat sounds about right. Speed players are fine if they hit over .235 I think the poor farm system is coming home to haunt finally as neither Getz or Fields seem to be capable of handling major league pitching.
