  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 12:54 PM) Why not? A lot of experts who saw every day of the trial were "shocked" at the verdict. Just convict her to life. Are these the same talking-head idiots that overhyped this whole trial every night for months, insisting on her guilt from the start?
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 12:43 PM) As opposed to a billion dollar Presidential campaign being "involved"? Are you in favor of Indiana adopting a Prop system like Cali? Do you see no problems with Cali's system?
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 12:38 PM) I think that citizens being involved as much as possible in our government is a great idea. I'm not a fan of finding ways to remove them from it. You don't need direct 50%+1 mandates (written by lobbyists, as Balta points out) in order to be involved in your own governance.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 12:36 PM) I'm a little unclear here...were the vaccines actually fake? I didn't get that from the article. You could give out legit vaccines and still use it as a chance to get a DNA sample...the program itself would be "Fake" in the sense that its goal was not vaccination. This is more accurate. The concern is: But they still moved the vaccination sites around, making it less likely that someone would actually get all three doses of the Hep B vaccine. The article isn't clear on whether the third was ever even offered.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 12:24 PM) I have to to say, that is pretty ingenious. I can hardly believe the CIA thought it up. It's also really, really terrible to fake giving vaccines to people.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 12:27 PM) Yeah, you gotta love people who want to get involved and enact change... Simple majorities that can simultaneously mandate all sorts of programs and funding while also cutting off sources of revenue for said mandates are a bad thing. I don't really see how you could argue against that given Cali's current state.
  7. The CIA organised fake vaccination drives to get Bin Laden family DNA The medical community is pretty pissed about the complete lack of ethics behind this:
  8. their Prop system is a disaster and a great example of real problems with direct democracy.
  9. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 12:04 PM) The most obese people on earth are starving. That's rich. Not the most but up there. But there's also this from the WHO: The global epidemic of overweight and obesity - "globesity" - is rapidly becoming a major public health problem in many parts of the world. Paradoxically coexisting with undernutrition in developing countries, the increasing prevalence of overweight and obesity is associated with many diet-related chronic diseases including diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, stroke, hypertension and certain cancers. eta: for example there's a lot of obesity in poor neighborhoods in the US because they only have access to junk food and not fruits, vegetables etc.
  10. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 11:42 AM) Well, your initial reply seems to state some sort of equivelency (even if I can't spell it) between the two. I was pointing out that they are not the same. I believe the two sides are more or less equivalent in their atrocities. That doesn't mean I agree that the examples you provided are equivalent.
  11. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 10:37 AM) So Israel giving medical treatment to injured Palestinians is morally equal to Palestinians launching rockets at an Israeli pre-school. No, that's a bizarre claim to attribute to me.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 10:12 AM) Option C - Cancel Like jenks I don't have cable or satellite service, so I still use it a decent amount. Hulu's movie selection is terrible.
  14. My view is that just about everyone involved in the I-P conflict (governmentally, not every single person in the region) is pretty terrible and treats the other side inhumanely.
  15. QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 10:15 AM) Tell me, what do you think of San Francisco's Hunk Jesus Festival? I've mentioned it before. It's an annual thing where gays get together and mock the Hell out of Christian beliefs. Is that not an example of them being bigoted assholes? Or is it OK because they aren't white, conservative Christians? Tolerance is a two way street. Yet why do I feel you're going to claim this sacrilegious festival is completely acceptable? Please, feel free to prove me wrong. Evangelical atheism annoys the hell out of me, but I really don't know what you're referring to here.

Netflix just sent me an email saying you've got to choose either a streaming plan or a DVD-only plan for $7.99 a month.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 01:14 PM) I just finished watching Game of Thrones Season 1, and i'm about 150 pages short of finishing the first book. I'm VERY excited to find out what happens. I only have approx 1800 pages to go before I can dive into the newest one... You've got more like 3000 pages!
  19. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 08:55 AM) That priest would be one bigoted, discriminatory asshole, and his/her belief about the right/wrong of this issue should not be afforded any protections since they are "terrible" and "abhorrent." He would be a bigoted discriminating asshole. He's free to be that, and the rest of us are free to criticize that. Free speech doesn't mean freedom from criticism.
  20. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 09:26 AM) I've never read anything about gay couples trying to make priests marry them by force. Where does this stuff come from? The same place where the ideas that discrimination only counts if you want to line people up and shoot them or that every left-leaning person here runs to mods to get people banned come from.
  21. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? You certainly don't have 2 or 3 if you're a Palestinian and 1's marginal at best. Not sure why Israel has a superior claim to the territory and to displace millions, either.
  22. Down to Santa Rosa and over the bay Across the grapevine to LA We got deserts we got trees We got the hills of Beverly Let's burn the hills of Beverly Walk with your credit card in the air Swinging nunchucks like you just don't care This is a slow, sick suckin' part of me This is a slow, sick suckin' part of me And when I'm sucking kisses, sour Up to the top of Shasta gulch To the bottom of the Tahoe Lake Manmade deltas and concrete rivers The south takes what the north delivers You film hack, I don't use your pay Lost in the foothills of Mount Pine Drinking Euro, say goodnight to the last psychedelic band/ from Sacto Northern Cal South Sacto, Northern Cal Taylor, neighbor You're my neighbor And I need favors You're my neighbor You don't need favors Cause I'm your neighbor (I'm not your neighbor You crazy street (bakersfield) trash
  23. QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 07:28 AM) Comparing me to a Nazi troll and being such a hypocrite, I was fed up. That's all I've got. I want to make it very clear that I was not doing that. I used an extreme example to illustrate to jenks a problem with the "it's just his opinion" line of defense with an example I think everyone here can agree is a 'terrible' opinion.
  24. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 03:48 AM) Bolded I agree with. Damn good points by FlySox. The unbolded part has not come up in this thread. Yup. Wait, how can he be making "damn good points" that I'd whine and cry about being attacked and run to get him banned, but you also say "yup" to my post mocking him for claiming that? BTW, I never claimed I wasn't being judgemental, so I don't get that line of defense from flysox. It also doesn't matter if it's just a personal belief, it can still be abhorrent, and if you share it on SoxTalk, you'll be called out for it. So that excuse doesn't work, either.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 09:04 PM) Netflix is on the verge of becoming irrelevant in the streaming game. Their contracts are up and their pricing model doesn't allow them to pay as much for the movie rights as other, deeper-pocketed competitors. They almost had to do this. Unfortunately for this long time subscriber, unless they come up with a better streaming selection, i'll be getting rid of Netflix altogether. It's been about 4-5 weeks since anything good has come to the streaming portion of the site. coming to the same conclusions, where else are you looking? hulu is good for a few shows but not much else.
