The NEI has running updates on the situation. http://nei.cachefly.net/newsandevents/info...in-that-region/
  2. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 10:49 PM) Last I checked, the name of the thread is still 2010-2011 NBA Thread. I am not even a fan of Kevin Love, but let the man post what he wishes. I didn't say he couldn't. I was responding to his "90% of the posts here are the same, only about Derrick Rose." I really don't care at all about his Love love.
  3. I love agribusiness rebranding high-fructose corn syrup as "corn sugar" and saying it has no difference at all from sugar while also implying that there's nothing wrong with pumping almost all of our foods full of sugar.
  4. Yeah, well, it is a Chicago board, and Derrick Rose is the MVP of the Decade
  5. Obama continues his terrible positions on civil rights. I probably won't be voting for him in 2012 but only because I have the luxury of living in Illinois.

QUOTE (The Gooch @ Mar 14, 2011 -> 09:08 PM) I am a human resources intern and I spend a lot of time reviewing resumes. I see a lot of what you see and I agree with most of what you said. I might have limited experience, but have noticed a lot of what you are talking about. I actually saw a resume a few weeks back for an administrative position where the woman listed her karate achievements on her resume (example: 3rd place in tournament 2006). I don't know what she was going for there. Dwight Shrute irl?
  7. An interesting thought I read elsehwere:
  8. I like that Socialism isn't just a competing economic philosophy, it's actually evil. The rest of that site advertised in the video is hilariously awful. I am tempted to think it's a parody.
  9. I'm glad that this useless Senator is out of office.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 09:03 AM) A worthwhile note from the UCS... The melting down reactor(s) in Japan have now released significantly more radiation than their "Design-basis" level... Translated...when they were proposed, there was an estimate of the largest amount of radiation that could possibly have been released in any accident or combination of accidents at the plant. These estimates are standard practice in nuclear plant construction, and are part of the basis on whether or not a plant is approved. The plant has already released more radiation than that level. To me, this is strong evidence that the safety projections simply cannot anticipate complex failure mechanisms. It would be nice if Ed Lyman bothered to cite the relevant CFR's. He's the same guy that referenced a bunch of his own flawed articles or misrepresented the conclusions of those other articles in that first document you posted.
  11. Hahahaha even if you want to go down Marxist road of "wage slavery," multi-millionaire athletes do not qualify.
  12. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 08:59 AM) So what is it that we should do to keep companies from shipping our jobs to another state/country? Obviously passing this bill wasn't the solution. I already told you: There aren't good solutions to the global problems that capitalism are presenting right now.
  13. TVA has three operating plants and one that's been partially built for about 20 years. I know because I was at all three recently! Anyway the US absolutely needs to do what the EU is looking at doing. And there was talk today around Plant Vogtle that construction for Units 3 & 4 will be haulted soon.

  15. http://wispolitics.com/index.iml?Article=230087 From: Sen.Fitzgerald Sent: Monday, March 14, 2011 3:52 PM To: *Legislative Senate Republicans Subject: Senate Democrat voting privileges in standing committees Dear Members, With the return of the Senate Democrats this weekend, questions have arisen regarding Democrat members’ participation in Senate standing committee public hearings and executive sessions. Please note that all 14 Democrat senators are still in contempt of the Senate. Therefore, when taking roll call votes on amendments and bills during executive sessions, Senate Democrats’ votes will not be reflected in the Records of Committee Proceedings or the Senate Journal. They are free to attend hearings, listen to testimony, debate legislation, introduce amendments, and cast votes to signal their support/opposition, but those votes will not count, and will not be recorded. If you have any questions, feel free to contact my office. Thank you, Scott Fitzgerald Senate Majority Leader 13th Senate District
  16. QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Mar 14, 2011 -> 09:09 PM) Anyone listen to B&B on the Score? The tournament of bad brackets were announced today. The Japanese housing market is my pick to win it all! http://chicago.cbslocal.com/tournament-of-bad/ That is hilariously awful.
  17. I like how you just knew who Alexis Texas was without googling it
  18. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 14, 2011 -> 09:13 PM) IncrediBULL. Did you see this?!

  20. Steve died in 1988 but that's the persona he assumed!
  21. I'm reporting all of you to the IRS.
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 14, 2011 -> 05:30 PM) The bottom line is we still dont have to pay illinois taxes on each purchase online. And thats ok. Actually, legally, you're supposed to. It's just like gambling winnings, though--since most purchases are relatively minor, it's not worth the states' efforts to audit and collect those taxes.
  23. We need a :headexplode smiley.
  24. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 14, 2011 -> 05:25 PM) It'll get worse long before it gets better. This isn't even about America and Americans anymore. It's a global thing...a world economy...and there isn't much we can do about it but make do...just like our race has always done. Accelerationism!
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 14, 2011 -> 05:24 PM) Aren't you continuing to ignore the fact that we can't magically instantaneously go from 0 states with an appropriate tax law to 50? Yes, but then we'll just be undercut by the Chinese! So we need to start cutting wages and working conditions to globally competitive levels to lure businesses back to this country.
