  1. Those are also tracked--what do they say?
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 08:55 AM) My bone to pick was that the trade in should have been for a car with at least 5 mpg more than the one you turned in. Sliding rebate scale based on percentage improved or some other metric would have been better environmentally, imo.
  3. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 10:00 AM) Doesn't mean you won't in the future. Also, doing what you are doing makes it really easy to steal your identity on multiple fronts. For example, any nubcake at Comcast can steal it -- since you've given their system full access to your bank account, information any idiot Comcast rep can bring up on their screen in one way or another -- and sell it to some 3rd party who would be proud to be you...and have your money. Or, nix the nubcakes at Comcast being underhanded -- if anyone steals their customer info any number of ways, you're full information, including bank account routing numbers, names, addresses, numbers, etc...would be in their hands. I work in the security industry -- and this is how it's done. People are simply too open/free with very personal information to a multitude of companies, because it makes their lives easier. Doing online banking is easier -- YOU pay when YOU choose -- NEVER give anyone direct access to withdraw from any of your accounts. EVER. Eh, I have two accounts with direct access to outside parties. One is my savings account at the same bank as my car loan. Its essentially just a balance transfer each month. The other is a checking account that I keep little money in. Usually just enough to cover bills. edit: /derail Contrary to the hyperbolic, irrational lies being spread around, no proposed bill mandates government access to your bank accounts. If you choose the "public option," you can choose a direct payment plan. That should end that issue, at least here.
  4. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 09:52 AM) Well, I think that's extreme -- I don't think they would try to "steal" money. I just foresee issues with overdraws and over payments do to clerical error. Other than that, there is no problem with it being a choice...I just think people who "choose" to give anyone direct access to their bank accounts, other than their job (which makes deposits, not withdrawls), is an idiot. I've never had any problems with my mortgage, car payment, comcast, car insurance, etc. Personally, I think anyone who still mails checks is just a laggard.
  5. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 09:40 AM) That aside, my original point had nothing to do with how to pay -- but that it's even an "option" to give the government direct access to a personal bank account. I just don't think it's a good idea, and that's all it was meant to convey. They have direct access to direct deposit my tax refund. I really do not understand the problem with it. How this provision is being portrayed by right-wing blogs is that you have to give Obama direct access to your bank accounts and he will steal all your monies.
  6. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 09:05 AM) How about just send a bill like everyone else, and I'll pay it how I choose. Why the need for added administration? You have the option. Just like I have the option for Comcast to not send me a paper statement and take money straight from my account. If you still want to write a check, go ahead.
  7. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 08:46 AM) I don't like the idea of the government having direct access to peoples bank accounts. That's just a BAD idea and I foresee a lot of accidental overdraws waiting to happen. You have the option of signing up for a direct-deposit or online bill pay type of program. The horror.
  8. they were conflated together into one word with the same meaning even though they are really separate words!
  9. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 06:57 PM) Sigh, one of my "friends" on Facebook made a status saying that calling Obama a Nazi is valid because national socialism = socialism so I have to explain to her that you really couldn't get much farther apart, and also throwing out the "Nazi" card immediately flags you as someone who nobody is going to take seriously. I feel like I'm telling someone that the moon isn't the sun. Just post a .jpg of a dining room table and move on. Most people in this country who talk about socialism, communism, capitalism, nazism or fascism have a very shallow understanding of what any of those terms really means. How often are socialism and communism conflated together? How many think Marx's ideas represent the entirety of communism?
  10. None of that addresses MSNBC deliberately ignoring the black guy to make a "Racism!" point.
  11. Tom DeLay wants to dance his ass off.
  12. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 04:19 PM) Seemed that every time Haliburton got any type of contract, regardless of how qualified they were for it, screams erupted from the left about favoritism, etc. So, you don't see the issue with assloads of cash going to firms with strong ties to those high up in the Obama admin? From reading through the article, I wasn't seeing government funds going to it. But, as ss2k5 pointed out, there's the lobbyist hypocrisy.
  13. QUOTE (T R U @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 02:26 PM) Hes not ready to give it up yet, so what. Stop crying like a baby every year then.
  14. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 09:47 AM) Maybe I'm just missing it, but what's supposed to be dishonest about this? QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 02:22 PM) Thank god they aren't using lobbying groups... Oops. Oh, right, that.
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 11:37 AM) Meh. Seems like a big suburb to me. I liked the river walk area edit: actually, a bird s*** on my Sox hat while I was there. f*** San Antonio. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 11:51 AM) Really? I hated San Juan. Just seemed kinda dirty and sketchy to me. The outskirts of San Juan were alright but not the actually city IMO I was only really in the Old San Juan area. We stayed out on the western coast in Rincon but took a day trip there.
  16. San Diego San Antonio Does San Juan count? Carrabelle, FL
  17. I have health insurance through my employer. Before that, I was a minor or in school and had health insurance through my father's employer. He switched jobs in the early 90's so I may have been without for a few months, but I don't recall. My main complaint with my current insurance is that they'll cover $78 of my $79 dental exam. Really? You need to refuse that last dollar? Of course, I haven't had any serious medical issues. They covered a good chunk of my expensive allergist visits and my prescriptions aren't ridiculously expensive ($20-45 vs. $100-200 retail price).
  18. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 09:36 AM) Just re-read everything from where I started posting...I saw nothing that would make me a douchebag other than a little sarcasm -- and it wasn't written in an attack tone at all...how you saw it that way I have no idea. Until you basically called me a doucebag, nobody called anyone any names. You were pretty insulting and dismissive of anyone who disagreed with you.
  19. Maybe I'm just missing it, but what's supposed to be dishonest about this?
  20. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 09:31 AM) The namecalling stops now. Can we still call Farve a douche?
  21. What section of the bill is this in?
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 11:27 PM) Saying we don't have a free market system currently is the same as sayign we don't have free speech because you can't yell fire in a theater, or that you don't have freedom of religion because a principal is going to jail for praying in school. Also, BULLs***. He's going to jail for being in contempt of court.
  23. [...]-wing is usually used in a derogatory manner. It would have been better to say "conservative" or "libertarian" imo because those don't contain the negative connotations.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 04:51 PM) Um, that wasn't what I said at all... But between you and Balta, the circular logic to justify the loss of another freedom is scary. How is it a loss of a freedom? It'll be just like the current wonderful system that's so full of freedom and choice. Hate the government plan your employer provides? Just switch jobs! It's easy! Or get affordable private insurance. There are very high switching costs for health care insurance customers. This severely limits forces on the industry to provide better service and lower costs. Like I said a page or two ago, I'd be in favor of my company paying me more, getting rid of the health insurance benefit and being able to choose from a variety of plans. Because of a variety of reasons, that's just not a realistic option in today's system.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 03:18 PM) Are you really telling me that with the option of changing to something completely cheaper and less work for them, that most private corporations won't drop their private plans and force their employees into government plans? You really don't believe in profit motivation this much dispite the obvious economic history's shown all over the place? Thank you. There is not choice in the current system. This was just a roundabout way of having you make that point for me.
