  1. Jim Thome for leadoff hitter?
  2. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 01:35 PM) BS, huh? Well, let's look at my BS claim. In the last 24 years (I'd have done 25 except 1981 was a strike year), the following is true of teams that won the World Series: 3 of 24 repeated as champs 8 of 24 made the playoffs 6 of 24 had a better record the year after 15 of 24 had records over .500 So tell me again how my claim is BS? Those are the facts. Most teams, like I said, do worse the year after. 18 of 24 in fact. Only a third EVEN MAKE THE PLAYOFFS. And not even two thirds have a .500 record. Am I disappointed? Yeah, I had high expectations too. But let's have some perspective here, shall we? Here is the last 24 years, WS winner, record, record in following year, and playoff status... To be fair, you'd have to see if the teams that won the WS and missed the playoffs would have made it in with a wildcard spot. The White Sox didn't win their division and didn't win the wildcard, while teams pre-1994 just didn't win the division. AND, you need to look at what the teams did after winning. If they went into a rebuilding year, vs. a supposed major upgrade to the "best rotation ever assembled" there's going to be big difference.
  3. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 10:55 AM) How many teams have repeated in the last 20 or 30 years? Few. And I'd love to see, if someone has the data, what the regular season records of WS champs were the following year (in the last 20 or 30 years). I'd bet that very, very few had better records the year after. I quickly looked up WS appearances vs. playoff appearance the following year since the introduction of the WC. 8 out of 22 teams have not made the playoffs after appearing in the WS the year before. '97 Marlins* '98 Padres '00 Mets '01 D-backs* '02 Angels* '03 Marlins* '05 White Sox* & Astros *Out of the WS winners, 5 out of 11 didn't return. What I'd like to know is what exactly those teams did after winning the world series, ie complete rebuild after a fire sale.
  4. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 11:44 PM) Tell us more about the scouts. What were they saying? "2 strikes? Low and away!"
  5. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 09:43 PM) We at soxtalk sincerly apologize for insulting your mancrush. You are right, stats be damned, he is the bestest hitter and most clutch guy in the history of baseball. If he was on this team right now, he would of had a stooge convention and we would of won 140 games. Freddy would be throwing 98 mph if he had seen Rowand in CF. And Buerhle would still know how to pitch. And Vazquez wouldn't s*** the bed in the 6th inning. And Contreras just wouldn't suck like he has post-DL. Oh, and the bullpen wouldn't fall apart, and Guillen would have taken some pointers from him on how to make a lineup card and bullpen changes. 140 games is a conservative estimate, my man.
  6. Someone on another forum I frequent suggested this idea: What if the US and France are playing out a "good cop, bad cop" scenario?
  7. Well done, AJ. I just hope it isn't too little, too late. (probably is)
  8. BA .293 over the last 62 games? No wonder Ozzie isn't happy with him!
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 07:12 PM) Standing up... bOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...(that's mostly o's right?) Nicely done!
  10. Clearly this team deserves a standing O. Anyone who disagrees isn't a "real" fan! LOLZ!
  11. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 04:41 PM) Guess you never cheered from 1917 until 2005. I feel sorry for you. I cheered my heart out in '23 damnit! Expectations were VERY high coming into this year. They fell flat on their face. Watching this team in the second half has been nothing but painful. Sorry, they don't deserve to be cheered for playing sub-.500 ball for half a season.
  12. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 03:37 PM) Alot of sox "fans" in here. Lots of people who want to "define" what a "true fan" is around here. Sorry, some people don't accept or cheer for mediocrity.
  13. I think this all but confirms our suspicions that Brian is a no-good Commie.
  14. Ha. This team is so done. At least the Bears are kicking ass.
  15. So, did anyone actually think they'd plate a run there?
  16. The rest of the team needs to take note on what can happen when you don't try to pull the ball constantly.
  17. "this would be a good time for Uribe to get hot" No, DJ. April would have been a good time for Uribe to actually learn how to hit at a major league level.
  18. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 07:28 PM) Please don't let this just be more false hopes from the 2006 White sox... f*** you, White Sox, f*** you.
  19. Please don't let this just be more false hopes from the 2006 White sox...
  20. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 09:29 AM) Call me crazy, but I don't think Ozzie lost the game for us last night. I agree Mac's jump was poor, but that also didn't lose the game. To me it seems it was that terrible play by Dye (he is still getting a pass though since he has been the best all year), and the fact that our hitting just sucks. Hawk said, going into the 9th that we just need to get Konerko to the plate. Now, for my money anymore Konerko is the last person I want to see at the plate in the 9th with a hit needed. Ya knew he was going to strike out. When you have batters like Uribe and Pods in your lineup, two automatic outs, you're not going to do much on offense.
  21. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 01:22 PM) Yeah totally. I mean, who wants to blame the pitching when we could blame the best offense in baseball, and our extremely successful manager? There's plenty of blame to go around. Ozzie deserves plenty for his "brilliant" managing.
  22. I've gotten dirty looks at Superdog for ordering ketchup-only. Sorry, I just don't eat vegetables.
  23. Silly superstitions is all. And I think the WS homepage had something up about it while the game was going on.
  24. JD is truely a god among men.
