QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 19, 2017 -> 10:14 AM) Packers a whole 2 spots behind Chicago in DVOA rankings. Bears 14th Packers 16th. And just a reminder that the bears have a head coach that tries to play a very slow pace to reduce the number of overall possessions. I don't know what DVOA is but these states don't seem great

Packers' defense is horrible and a lot of GB fans seem to be fed up with Capers.

Trump is angry at Sessions and Wray for not purging the DOJ and FBI of anyone who isn't a Trump loyalist fast enough.

QUOTE (Quin @ Dec 17, 2017 -> 08:36 PM) Oh sweet Jesus. Definitely see it there. Yeah, you see the electrical box shift hard on the side angle. Looks like the top of his knee cap wedges under the box.

But a hand-off is a different situation from a forward pass. I didn't think he ever really had complete control until the ball hit the ground and shifted on him. For a running back, you'd talking about a situation where he for-sure has control of a live ball.

Unilateral disarmament is a bad idea. Why operate under any sort of belief that any decorum or return to "norms" from Democratic government will be honored and respected once Republicans regain power at some point in the future? What about the last year has said "yes, we should continue to rely on norms and 'playing nice' rather than hard-coding everything worthwhile into law?"

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 18, 2017 -> 08:27 AM) A Democratic winner in Virginia says it’s time for bipartisanship You just won a sweeping election and this is how you act. Smdh. You might not want to take a look at Jones' comments about maybe voting with Republicans and no need to consider Trump's sexual assault accusers.

I really don't get the controversy over this one. I didn't think it was a catch as soon as I saw the replay.

Another great collaboration between wapo and 60 minutes highlighting how the pharma industry is "too big to prosecute" despite raking in massive illicit profits off of the opiod crisis. ‘We feel like our system was hijacked’: DEA agents say a huge opioid case ended in a whimper http://wapo.st/2j6ahuy -

List of words the Trump administration is banning the CDC from using: “diversity” “fetus" “transgender” “vulnerable” “evidence-based” “science-based" “entitlement” Comic book villain levels of evil

Trump personally requested that tax exempt muni bonds for the proposed of building sports stadiums not be axed by the tax bill. https://twitter.com/RichardRubinDC/status/9...src=twsrc%5Etfw

The House investigation has been a farce since day 1, the Senate one a little less so. Muller's investigation is the only one that really matters. I don't have any faith that Republicans would do anything in response to another Saturday night massacre, though.

It turns out Rubio's changes actually reduce the overall increase in the child tax credit, per JTC. More great outcomes from slamming as much garbage together as they can. https://twitter.com/jimtankersley/status/94...src=twsrc%5Etfw Corker is also now a yes but without any concessions after having voted no before.

Yeah, it's definitely a problem of not knowing seemingly very basic things that would be crucial to the job rather than the last time he read through the whole federal code. That said, while it's been years since I've reviewed the actual CFR's related to my job, I keep up on relevant regulatory guidance and industry guidance when it's published. He could have had an easy answer there along those lines if he had any relevant qualifications. At least the "KKK was right" blogger nominee who was somehow even less qualified than this guy for a lifetime federal appointment had been rejected.

QUOTE (Quin @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 02:14 PM) He and the fine folks at The Daily Caller find no problem with this cause you can still (illegally) use the Harlem Shake in your videos. Funny thing about one of the people in that video, turns out she's a pizza gate nutso who laughs at trans bashing

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 02:43 PM) Anyone using their phone as a hotspot or downloading movies Sure, and it's really easy to envision Comcast throttling Netflix or Amazon etc streaming after a certain amount (that you'd run into in a few hours of 4k streaming) but having unlimited streaming for their own products. We know this is something they might do because they're already tried to do it in the past. And ultimately, this is going to be much worse for smaller businesses or anyone trying to enter a more bandwidth intensive market because Netflix and Amazon can afford to pay Comcast, Turner, Verizon etc for the fast lane.
-
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 02:06 PM) Or, conversely, the opposite has happened with cell phone carriers. Instead of the companies colluding and getting every dime out of consumers for bad and/or limited service, competition has caused them to open everything up as much as possible. They compete with each other to offer the fastest and most data packages possible. They're not offering you slow, limited data plans, they're offering you fast, unlimited ones. I'm not saying i'm happy about this, i'm just saying I trust the almighty dollar to be more effective than regulation at the end of the day. They block services that compete with their own offerings. They were doing it at least into 2015 because that's why broadband got reclassified as common carrier. Now they'll be completely free to do that, and they will. It's about a lot more than just "how much data for $x" And as I said, wireless providers don't have nearly the physical hurdles that wired providers face.
-
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 01:21 PM) But they don't want to be reliant on Comcast/AT&T. If Comcast/AT&T are going to make it more difficult for people to get their service, ultimately costing them money, they're not going to play nice with them. They're going to want to compete with them and remove that reliance. Comcast and Disney are competitors anyway in a lot of different areas (Tv, movies, theme parks.) There's an incentive to go rogue, much like Netflix did with Hollywood studios. And frankly, there's a huge opportunity there for some silicon valley tech company to get into that marketplace. If Comcast and AT&T are going to dick people around, they'll look for another alternative if it's there. The underlying point is that is still not a good result for the consumer So you buy Disney internet or NBC Comcast internet. Both are worse outcomes than a neutral internet. We already see moving carriers, which have a lot more competition than landline ISP's, engaging in throttling or blocking competing services. When you combine the huge hurdles to get into the landline game, it's a complete fantasy that this deregulation will be anything but bad.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 12:53 PM) The one hope here is that another major company - Google, Facebook, Amazon, maybe even Disney (via agreements) - comes along and offers up their own service to compete with Comcast/AT&T. If those ISP's are going to throttle service to popular streaming platforms, those companies (Netflix, Disney, Amazon, etc) are going to lose money. They have an incentive to find an alternative means to get their product out to people. Last mole Infrastructure isn't cheap or easy, Google has already largely abandoned their Google fiber project. Too bad a lot of states have passed laws banning municipal ISP's. Even then, Amazon or Disney would just be another huge corporation with strong incentives to engage in anticompetitive behavior. The real solution is to codify it into law like other countries have done.
