Just remember, this bill is really just a tax cut for the wealthy disguised as a healthcare bill. That's their main motivation, and they don't care how many Americans it kills to get there. So this bill saves a little bit more money, and 1 million fewer people will lose insurance, but the actual effects are even more brutal than the first time around, and much of the "insurance" people will have will be functionally useless.

QUOTE (bmags @ May 24, 2017 -> 03:43 PM) Bill is great if you can guarantee you will be healthy and can guarantee you can live in a state that won't waive benefits. Or have an employer hq'd in a state that won't waive benefits (I've got BCBS, but through a state other than IL) Republicans throwing a party to celebrate this bill passing one house of congress may not have been the brightest idea ever

People needing maternity care could incur thousands of extra dollars of health care expenses
-
People in states who chose to eliminate Essential Health Benefits coverage would have their premiums drop but would likely end up paying more overall since their insurance will be pretty useless. More money for worse care.

New CBO score out 2018: 14 million more would be uninsured than ACA 2020: 19 million more 2026: 23 million more

During a budget conference today, Mulvaney slipped in a statement that tax revenues are coming in slower than expected and that we may hit the debt limit sooner than originally anticipated. Mnuchin is along Congress to raise the ceiling before they go on summer recess.

There were something like 160 GOP amendments allowed to the ACA and months and months of working with several of them to craft the bill.

https://twitter.com/cspan/status/867425942624509953 This is enraging. DeVos refuses to name a single possible example of discrimination that would put federal funding at risk, even race-based, in the name of "state flexibility"

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 16, 2017 -> 08:09 AM) My wife and I have talked for years about doing a trip to Glacier National Park (which I haven't been to yet), and as a grand retirement party (in like 15-20 years) to rent one of those private train cars and take the train from Chicago to the park. Given the rate at which the glaciers are disappearing from Glacier, we are now dropping the train thing (which is expensive as hell) and just road tripping to Glacier next summer to get there much sooner. Legitimately concerned most or all will be gone by the time 20 years rolls around. We had a great time on the Maine coast last year. I'd definitely recommend checking out Bar Harbor and Acadia.

The Beleaguered Tenants of ‘Kushnerville’ Tenants in more than a dozen Baltimore-area rental complexes complain about a property owner who they say leaves their homes in disrepair, humiliates late-paying renters and often sues them when they try to move out. Few of them know that their landlord is the president’s son-in-law. tl;dr Kushner is a slumlord

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 23, 2017 -> 03:12 PM) Until the recent spate of car attacks, I had never noticed the multiple concrete posts in front of the UC entrances. But this year I thought about it if someone tried to drive a car through the doors, but then saw how many posts there were in surrounding the entrance. In a lot of places, those bollards will be disguised as more decorative features, too. A bunch of concrete planters lining a sidewalk in front of a museum or something might be steel reinforced and solidly anchored into the ground. It's primarily done to prevent vehicle bombs, but now that "driving into crowds deliberately" is a thing, it'll be considered for that, too. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 23, 2017 -> 02:44 PM) Carrier plant that Trump helped save will cut 300 jobs right before Christmas According to the article it's a total of 648 jobs Carrier is getting rid of between now and Christmas. Out of the 1100 800 that Trump claimed to have personally saved.

QUOTE (Tony @ May 23, 2017 -> 02:39 PM) FoxNews is the highest rated cable news network and Hannity is now their most watched show. FWIW I think they've been slipping back to third lately, at least in prime time.

more on the math in Trump's budget
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 23, 2017 -> 11:33 AM) This Trump budget and their attempts to sell it are a gift to Democratic campaigns across the country e: their budget is insane and uses literal magic to get to the numbers they like U6 unemployment at 4.5% lmao, we last saw that during WW2 and factories are a heck of a lot more efficient these days. Trump Budget Based on $2 Trillion Math Error Trump's not-fully-fleshed-out tax cut plan will not only pay for the trillions in tax cuts, it'll also generate an additional $2T in revenues.
