  1. Coats declines to comment on Post report that Trump asked him to deny evidence of collusion with Russia Some rumors that he's basically confirmed this off camera/off the record.
  2. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 22, 2017 -> 07:35 PM) Leaked Trump budget proposal shows that, combined with the ahca cuts, Trump would cut Medicaid by $1.4 trillion dollars. During the campaign, he pledged not to cut Medicaid, Medicare, or social security
  3. This Trump budget and their attempts to sell it are a gift to Democratic campaigns across the country e: their budget is insane and uses literal magic to get to the numbers they like U6 unemployment at 4.5% lmao, we last saw that during WW2 and factories are a heck of a lot more efficient these days.
  4. The Seth Rich ‘Scandal’ Shows That Fox News Is Morally Bankrupt The network I once respected as a necessary antidote to liberal media now peddles craven lies and Russian disinformation.

  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 22, 2017 -> 04:38 PM) So it is fair to not take your opinion seriously because you advocate for violence on a regular basis. Support your claims, please. Show where I advocate for violence on a regular basis. e: also, answer the question. Is there any line where you think dialogue is no longer appropriate or productive?
  9. the GOP has been dumping mountains of money into this race, and it's now the most expensive Congressional race in history!
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 22, 2017 -> 04:35 PM) I see you personally advocating for violence on a regular basis. Should everyone ignore you? I will fully admit to having no moral opposition to a literal Nazi being punched in the face. Beyond that, and more to the point, "on a regular basis?" Definitely going to need you to provide links to back up that claim.
  11. There's nothing wrong with reading or listening to other analysis, either, but don't go to outright propagandists who knowingly lie to people or people who's main claim is as an "entertainer."
  12. That's also generally discrimination lawsuit CYA because companies don't like being sued for being complicit because some jackass employee made inappropriate comments and management ignored it. Besides, ss2k5 said "violence and attacks," which is a far cry from some workplace meeting you have once a year.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 22, 2017 -> 03:42 PM) All that is being done is to further the divide in the US, shrink the ground that could be used to bridge those gaps, and to push more of the country to the extremes. It furthers the creations of the next Trumps on the left and right. Mike Pence would like to psychologically and physically torture people that I love. He wants to deny them basic rights. There's no bridge-building there until he gives up his bigotry. Are there any viewpoints you'd consider to be unworthy of discussion and "bridge-building"? Do you condemn what John Brown was trying to do?
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 22, 2017 -> 03:40 PM) Burying your head in the sand to what the other side is about didn't solve anything, which is what the vast majority of the US did over slavery. It's a heck of a lot more complicated than that and there was plenty of politicking, advocating, and full-blown violence well before 1861. Given what was at stake, it wasn't going to be solved by more speeches or dialogue, and the sooner slavery was eradicated from the country, the better. I don't need to listen to Mike Pence give a speech in order to know what he's "about."
  15. So the students should have risen up in insurrection against Pence? Or...put down his insurrection in the name of bigotry? Or the slaveholders should have listened to more abolitionist speeches? The analogy seems to fall apart pretty quickly.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 22, 2017 -> 03:11 PM) It was actually biblically justified at the time. Real progress on the issue of slavery really didn't actually get made because the North ignored the South. In fact the constitution tried exactly that by punting the issue forward a couple of decades, and then just ignoring some more. How did that work out? It took a four year war to fix. This is part of the reason that there are so many sects of Christianity in this country. Lots and lots of schisms over slavery.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 22, 2017 -> 03:12 PM) I see exactly this being said of people the left doesn't support. I do not see liberals advocating that conservatives being given electroshock therapy, be sent to psychological torture camps, or be denied basic human rights simply because they're conservative. The equivalency just ain't there.
  18. http://www.cnbc.com/2017/05/22/wilbur-ross...-key-point.html Saudi Arabia imprisons or straight up murders dissidents; is praised by Trump admin for lack of protests during visit.
  19. It seems pretty silly to say that you lose the "high ground" when you stop tolerating certain ideologies that are themselves hateful and intolerant. I'm pretty sure I maintain the high ground if I wish to see Nazism purged from the Earth. That there are inevitably gray areas and difficult topics doesn't mean the entire concept is invalid or that all viewpoints deserve to be heard and deserve a platform. Mike Pence loathes gay people. He's attempted to enact laws that will harm them. He supports emotionally and physically abusing them in order to "cure" them of being gay. If Mike Pence had his way, he would cause very real harm to people that I love. It's not "intolerant" to vocally and forcefully reject his bigotry, and an ideal of tolerance does not mean you must treat all viewpoints as equal or even worthy of consideration.
  20. "social brownie points" "for some attention" Sure sounds like a good faith approach to the topic to me!
  21. Should probably just cut off the silly "so much for the tolerant left" nonsense https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradox_of_tolerance
  22. this seems to publicly confirm that the intel definitely came from Israel?
