Addison Reed trade from DBacks' perspective
StrangeSox replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 01:20 PM) Aren't prospect rankings basically projections? The White Sox have reports on every player. Apparently they liked Davidson a lot. In the end, it is the result that matters. If Matt Davidson doesn't help the White Sox, trading for him was a mistake. Something that's got a 90% chance of succeeding still fails one out of every ten times. Something that fails 90% of the time still works out one out of ten times. You're going to make some very poor decisions if you're playing the results and not the probabilities. -
QUOTE (MEANS @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 03:39 PM) what ever happened with that crazy story? the guy was sent to a high-security mental facility because he was (is) insane http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killing_of_Tim_McLean edit: apparently he is allowed unsupervised visits to the nearby town.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 03:20 PM) Goodell is earning his $44mil because people are attacking him not the owners. And then if it ever gets too bad, they have a sacrificial lamb, get a new figurehead and the mob never goes after the owners. I will be the NFL's fall guy for 1% of that price. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 02:46 PM) His salary is almost certainly based on how much money they're making. Sure, but how much money is Goddell earning them? How much is he potentially costing them right now? -

You have to wonder if the owners are questioning just what he provides to them that justifies his $44M salary. -
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 02:36 PM) See this is my point. This type of abuse isn't new. It's not different. It's not an epidemic. It's not a league-wide issue. Yet that's the responses and editorials we're getting from these single, relatively rare events. Do we know this for sure? It's a legitimate question to ask when there's a string of these high-profile events of domestic and child abuse represent a deeper problem within the NFL's culture and more broadly in the country's culture. USA Today put together NFL player arrest data since 2000. It's presented in an interactive graphical form here: http://highrankwebsites.com/nfl-crimes-interactive/

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 01:50 PM) You have to admit this is just something else for people to talk about and be pseudo fake outraged over. Can we get back to domestic abuse? Oh and the Redskins name? Or have we exhausted our outrage on those already? This is basically just a way of saying "stop talking about this."

I think it's safe to say that 3 weeks ago, I would have been just as appalled to learn about a child being beaten with a stick to the point of bruising and bleeding as I am today. It's not weird for people to express their opinions on a topic when the topic comes up in current events. It sometimes takes a major event that happens to get the public's attention for whatever reason to expose deeper problems that have been there for a while but weren't made so obvious before.

I thought it was funny.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 18, 2014 -> 09:21 PM) Puerto Rico can be cheap. Should probably expand a bit and say that it can be really nice, too. My wife and I have been there twice, including once for our wedding. There's San Juan if you want a big city and a Miami-like strip of hotels and beaches and the really cool historic Old San Juan. There's rugged mountains in the interior, including the huge radiotelescope at Arecibo (Goldfinger and Contact were filmed there). There's drier areas down in the southern parts (Ponce). There's a coastline that reminds me of central California over on the west side (Rincon) with lots of surfing and scuba.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 09:12 AM) I dont even care what hester thinks about his last few years in chicago. dont complain about not being involved in the offense if you cant break huddle in the middle of a game without Jay or the other wide receivers telling you the correct place to line up. Also heard that he dropped what should have been an easy TD catch when he beat the coverage again. Shocking. -
Him or Stewart edit: liberal English are happy with the "no" result because otherwise their country would have been dominated politically by conservatives. Think of Scotland as the UK's East Coast liberal bastion.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 08:08 AM) One thing that is barely mentioned about AP, which makes what he did even worse, was stuffing the kid's mouth with leaves. Obviously he doesn't want others to hear the kid scream. It makes me think he at least had an inkling what he was doing was wrong. This sort of harsh discipline seems to be mainly about the parent gratifying their frustrations and anger (over their own abuses, stress in the rest of their life, failures in parenting, whatever) than anything else.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 19, 2014 -> 07:38 AM) Bush's original quotes on CNN: "I most definitely discipline my daughter. I have a 1-year old daughter" "I definitely will try to obviously not leave bruises but I definitely will discipline her harshly depending on what the situation is." A one-year old child. Jesus.

Even with the "no" result, there were lots of promises made to Scotland by the British political parties about devolving even more control over Scottish issues to Scotland. It sort of creates a complicated mess (Scottish MP's can vote in Westminster on things that will control England, but the English MP's can't have similar say over Scotland), and other areas like Wales might demand something similar.
