QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 12:10 PM) Wont happen. Same thing was said with McCain and Romney, people are sick of it. It's going to be a Paul/Cruz or Cruz/Paul ticket and there's nothing that's really going to stop it. Christie isn't even going to enter the primaries. That will make Reagan's victory over Mondale look close.

NFL was promoting Bostic's hit as "spectacular" on their website and included a link to a video of Trent Dilfer calling it a "perfect form tackle" before they decided to fine him.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 21, 2013 -> 11:01 AM) Yeah, you know, safety tests don't matter. At all. That new Cadillac concept looks meh compared to a Tesla. Only idiots get into car accidents, duh. http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/08/19...j-concept/?_r=0 Front end looks nice, but that backend looks horrible.

QUOTE (farmteam @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 03:16 PM) 1st bolded: Everyone tries to throw a shutout. Some are better at holding onto leads than others, whether that means giving up 4 ER in 6 IP or 2 ER in 7IP. 2nd bolded: That's why I said over the course of a few years, not one year, and definitely not one game as you indicated. Would I rather have the guy who consistently 2ER in 7IP instead of the guy with 4ER in 6IP? Well duh. But if the latter guy, over the course of a few seasons, consistently gets wins throwing like that, I'm going to give him a bit of credit for at the end of the day getting the W. Why? The offensive production of his team got him the "w", not his pitching.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 19, 2013 -> 09:27 PM) Because it's still the most important stat in the game. Not for evaluating the effectiveness of a pitcher

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 17, 2013 -> 05:08 PM) By your rational you shouldn't need airbags in your car since they have that nifty function called a "break", too. [brake]

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 17, 2013 -> 07:04 PM) I dismiss the idea that racism still exists in this country. lol eta: btw it's not that it casually dismisses the concerns of the white person, it's that it dismisses the concerns of the non-white person. The exact same arguments one can respond to "white guilt" with can and are made by non-whites, which goes to show how dumb of a response it is.

From what I recall when I had to have a head gasket replaced about 10 years ago, it was right around $1200. Didn't have to replace the head though. Not sure why they'd have to if you haven't really overheated the car or really damaged the camshaft bearings or anything, but I'm not familiar with your specific car.

QUOTE (farmteam @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 02:25 PM) Just going off what I'm reading here, seems like he was just wearing an Obama mask, in the same way other presidential masks would be worn. Is it possible that the rodeo clown was happy/agreed with the racial undertones? Yeah. But the bottom line is that there are probably other things worth getting angrier about. Move on. Oh absolutely.
-
jesus christ edit: you know what's funny about the whole "white guilt" nonsense deflection is that it doesn't actually say anything about why non-white people might have a problem with something. It just casually dismisses their concerns entirely.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 02:16 PM) He's a white guy trying to look/act like a black guy. That's the only historically problematic element here. yes, white guys caricaturing black guys is really historically problematic, which is why people have an issue with this.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 02:12 PM) How many state funded events have you been too? Every one I have ever been to has the governors name on it somewhere. Well, sure, they're the head executive of the state. That's different from someone otherwise irrelevant to the event being lampooned as a part of it.
-
So moving past whether or not it was racist, is it appropriate for a state-funded event to engage in politicking like that?

The "insane overreaction" came from a wide range of people, including Missouri Republicans. I don't think they're known for being big Obama fans. edit: Blackface is incredibly offensive because of its history and its usage to make caricatures out of black people. You can argue that wearing the mask isn't the same as painting your face black, but many people perceive it as little different and still offensive. That will never apply to somebody of any race wearing a white mask specifically because the historical context is not there. That doesn't mean anyone who isn't black who wears an Obama mask is racist or engaging in blackface (as least as far as I'd argue), but when it's being done literally to clown and caricature him, it's not exactly hard to see why people have a problem with this. It's not that the mask had big lips (I'm sure it was a regular mask) but that another rodeo clown came up and bobbled the lips. African Americans have frequently been caricatured with big lips, and this was seen in that light. I'm not presuming this guy must be racist because he dared to make fun of Obama. I'm interpreting his actions as racist because they utilized historically problematic elements and outright racist caricatures.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 14, 2013 -> 04:14 PM) Rodeo clowns being prevented from working for daring to mock her leader? fyi for everyone, this refers to a couple of rodeo clowns at the state fair in Missouri dressing in black face and mocking stereotypical big lips on a black person.

It's already basically a professional league, it's just that everybody (administrators, coaches, apparel companies, TV networks, video game manufacturers, etc.) but the athletes get a cut. edit: /rant, back to video games discussion! A little over a week ago I picked up the Quakecon Pack. Given my current pace of getting through games, this should last me until about 2020.

QUOTE (Boogua @ Aug 14, 2013 -> 12:50 PM) Hank has an interesting dilemma. Not only is Walt his brother-in-law, but Hank used Walt's meth money to pay for most of his medical bills and therapy and stuff. I also think Hank turns him in, but it can't be easy. Well, that and the biggest meth producer in the SW was operating right under his nose the whole time. It won't look good for him career-wise. edit: the previous ASAC was pushed out because he missed Gus Fring who was buddy-buddy with the DEA and (IIRC) APD. Imagine how much worse it'll be for Hank. I don't think it'll stop him from coming forward, but it's just another complicating factor.
