QUOTE (Cknolls @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 08:05 PM) And free school breakfast and lunch and surely within a few years dinner. And busing. And spare me he property tax bulls***. Spare me facts that don't fit my "they don't pay taxes!!!" narrative!

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 06:36 PM) What makes you thik they will have a high enough income to actually end up PAYING anything? The people working in the shadow economy make crap, which is why they rely so heavily on the benefits. If they still making crap, they will still be a drain. except for all of those state and local taxes and sales taxes and property taxes (rolled into rent) and gas taxes and liquor taxes and....

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 03:56 PM) The reason is that there is no reason not to break the law. Wait it out long enough, and you get what you want. Except the constant fear of deportation, working in a shadow economy with no legal recourse for abuses, etc. etc.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 03:52 PM) It.doesn't.work. Read some history. Not when you don't do anything to fix your broken system that led to the problem in the first place.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 02:44 PM) (1) There's nothing stopping them. You might have to wait in line, but you're not stopped from ever immigrating to this country legally. Is there some universal right to be free to enter a country and demand citizenship at any time? Come on. The rest of the world doesn't operate this way, and neither should we. Speed up the process? Absolutely, i'm 100% in agreement with that. But it's bulls*** to claim people are denied access to this country. That's clearly not true. (2) So people that come over here specifically to have a kid so they can be born as an American citizen are doing it because they like the weather here? GMAB. People come here because it's a better opportunity than at home. Period. And most do so because they know their kids will get a free education and free healthcare that their home country doesn't provide. (3) Couple things: First, Lincoln used his war powers to do that, so unless Obama is going to really stretch the meaning of those powers, that's not applicable; and two, please show me in the Constitution where immigration to this country is a Constitutionally protected right. Many Latin American countries have more sociliazed programs than we do, especially when it comes to health care. One of the fears of Republicans is that legal, voting immigrants come from more-socialized countries and will vote for those types of policies.

QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Jun 15, 2012 -> 12:08 AM) Don't you have to have a PE to work in consulting? That was the impression I was under. To actually call yourself an "engineer" and sell engineering services, you do. You might be able to work as an independent contractor for a design/consulting firm without the PE stamp, or you could call yourself a designer or do some drafting work.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 11, 2012 -> 10:34 AM) Major New Evidence in Sandusky Case Full blown cover up, because it wouldn't be fair to expose Sandusky. Everyone. Hang. I'm still good with my original suggestion of razing the entire campus to the ground.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 12:07 PM) The problem is the legal channels are a convoluted mess that a person can be on a waiting list for a decade before they can become a citizen. Yeah, our system is broken right now. Plus, this whole thing is about people who were brought to this country by their parents. does is make sense to deport a 25 year old college graduate who's lived in this country for 24 1/2 years?

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 11:37 AM) What point are you trying to make? That illegal immigrants are good? Immigrants are good, but my point was that saying they don't pay taxes is false. It's along the same line as the "poor don't pay any taxes!" slight-of-hand that conflates FICA with all taxes.
-
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 11:43 AM) I'd love to see some kind of breakdown of the percentage of illegal immigrants who use fake SSNs and thus pay taxes, compared to those who just get paid under the table. SSN's would result in paying federal income taxes. Everyone pays all sorts of taxes, regardless of their income sources, whenever they buy food, gas, clothes, etc., when they pay their property taxes (or rent), when they register their vehicles, when they drive on tollways, etc.
-
Undocumented immigrants pay plenty of taxes, especially if they're using a fake SSN and not being paid in cash.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 02:11 PM) Let me clarify. Google Map's turn by turn navigation is absolutely excellent and that's what I rely heavily on. I already know they are rated the best in mapping services so the backbone/foundation for their navigation is nothing I ever have to worry about. Google's MyTracks app records your gps data and uploads it to google maps and google earth so you can see the route you took (along with other data). Great for hiking/riding.

If you thought that was a serious post...

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 03:50 PM) I guess I wasn't clear enough. It's moreso an argument about what movie you see on TV or something along those lines that motivates you to go workout. I've decided I want to go to the top of this: motivation enough for me

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 10:42 AM) Which I have seen and those are insane. Ironic how all these same folks were making fun of the iPad as an oversized iPhone, and now they are putting that thing up to their ear. The note is silly, but an ipad isn't comparable to a 4.3 screen.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 10:29 AM) Did you get a Galaxy Note by any chance then? I have a Droid x2, which is 4.3 iirc. The other criteria was that i was buying two phones and this one was buy one, get one while having most of what i wanted.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 10:05 AM) Not everyone has hands the size of a 9 year old's. One of the criteria when i was phone shopping was "biggest screen possible."
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 07:26 AM) Overcharging? It seems to me like maybe they've streamlined their production costs and leveraged their position within the industry to negotiate very profitable deals with the carriers to build those revenues. iPhones, considering their capabilities and quality are very reasonably priced in the market. They certainly are not gouging. Apple hardware has always been seriously overpriced. Where they have been great is user interface and interaction, there's no denying that.
-
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 05:29 PM) While Android phones, by sheer numbers, often outsell Apple's iPhone on a worldwide basis...the number that actually matters is the profits... Apple's share of the mobile phone market's profits is a whopping 75%. Yes, you read that right...75%. That means the remaining 25% of it is shared between Samsung, Motorola, HTC, Research in Motion, Nokia, etc... That's why Apple doesn't care who it pisses off...the money talks...and right now it's saying Apple is -- by far -- #1. Apple is overcharging their customers because people are paying for the brand?! No way!

QUOTE (kev211 @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 08:37 PM) I absolutely love how often people post in here meaning to post in the game thread. I think it's a running joke at this point

Your post would have been about 1000x better as this:

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 01:54 PM) Well then that sounds a lot more like it was close to even than the 'he was outraised 10-1'. Doesn't matter who personally raised the money, spending seemed pretty close to even. Outside spending was close to even, actual-candidate spending was heavily in favor of Walker. It wasn't close to even overall. All Walker Spending: $29m + $21m (outside)=$50m All Barrett Spending: $3m + &21m (outside)=$24m Though I'll toss this in: Using Wisconsin to test the effects of campaign money

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 6, 2012 -> 09:00 PM) In that case, please add a hyperlink with additional information establishing your point. lol when has that ever happened?

Yesterday the feds indicated that this crossed state lines and a federal charge will be coming eventually.
