  1. Post all of your fond memories of this great White Sox pitcher here!
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 03:13 PM) Thank you for the technical definition of summer. I had no idea. We typically don't have record-setting streaks of consecutive 100+ days in June.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 12:42 PM) Yeah, despite the heat this year, the humidity has been pretty non-existent. If it hadn't been so dry, this hasn't been a bad summer so far. Also we are in a burn and fireworks ban. It's amazing how different 105F in California's central valley region (incredibly dry right now) feels from 95 around Chicago this week. We can only expect things to keep on getting hotter over the years: edit: this site will tell you current drought conditions across the country: http://droughtmonitor.unl.edu/ edit2: Jesus, I didn't realize that Denver is looking at a record-setting fifth day of 100+ temperatures. And we're only in June.
  4. finally some offense against scrub pitchers
  5. He was banned, and rightfully so.
  6. Some high(low)lights of the Texas GOP's announced platform: I missed the best one! Yep, they want to stop teaching critical thinking. Because it undermines parental authority and fixed beliefs.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 04:43 PM) who got knocked out, me or chisox? it seems to me he snapped and will prolly be headed to the penalty box. lol, yeah I'm sure he's been banned already
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 02:17 PM) *open mouth dumbfounded stare*
  9. How so? Having Antonin Scalia, former Supreme Court Justice, advocating for your case in front of the Supreme Court brings all sorts of problems to mind. Sure, he could retire and do so now, but he'd be giving up tremendous power. If he was term-limited out, it'd all but guarantee that he'd be doing just that (along with every other Justice). Double the size of the court, maybe. Then every individual judge isn't so important, so the fights over lifetime appointments to single spots aren't quite as drastic. As it is, I believe we have one of the smallest Supreme Courts in the western legal world.
  10. Term-limited SC Justices would be a very pricey legal commodity. We don't need more bought-and-paid-for influence in our courts.
  11. They can be impeached. Term limits have their own huge problems e.g. term-limited Supreme Court Justices moving on to private sector positions. If the ACA is struck down in part or in whole, nothing will be done on health care. It was far too bruising of a political fight for Democrats and they have nowhere near the numbers now.
  12. YOUR POST-RACIAL AMERICA: CIVIL RIGHTS HERO’S GRANDSON SUING FOR CONSTANTLY BEING CALLED ‘N-WORD’ AT WORK Not really partisan-political, but man is the Plantiff's Response to the summary judgement motion nauseating. edit: it also serves as a depressingly great example of what's meant by "wage-slavery" and the exploitation many workers face, like being constantly treated like s*** or being pressured to perjure yourself because, hey, you need a job to pay the rent.
  13. Barnett's been doing victory dances over there for a while now, along with some of the other bloggers.

    Welcome to the club of "waiting 5+ years for the next book"
  16. Someone switching between machines would have noticed pretty quickly. Or maybe an employee thought this was an unethical practice and leaked it.
  17. You could strike the mandate and the other big parts, like community rating and guaranteed issue, but still leave many of the other provisions in place.
  18. Oh, Louisiana http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/educati...lution.17918511
  19. yeah I didn't mean to give him a pass for being a bad gm there
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 04:49 PM) You've driven a car that goes 0 to 120 in 4 seconds? whoops, I looked at the 0-60 time first (~2.8s).
  21. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 04:45 PM) Top Thrill Dragster is one intense 30 second ride. And yes, totally worth it. That was my last ride after a long day at Cedar Point. I don't know if it was because of the head cold/sinus infection I had or what, but I felt absolutely terrible after that ride. edit: I've driven a car that accelerates that quickly before without adverse affects, so who knows
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 02:31 PM) The last two WS champs would say the AL isn't all that special. The AL as a whole can be much better than the NL as a whole but still lose to an NL team in a best-of-7 series. Were you really unaware of the ERA discrepancy between the two leagues?
  23. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 04:33 PM) Hendry was a genius. Weren't a lot of those bad trades and contracts forced on him by ownership?
  24. I don't think we had a separate thread for the STOCK act, so I'll just dump this here but it's corruption by both parties: http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/law...ry.html?hpid=z1
