  1. QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 11:57 AM) I can still read lips "We'll take care of that"
  2. Say You Say Me - Lionel Richie UK: Merry Christmas Everyone - Shakin' Stevens (I was born on 12/27/85)
  3. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 11:59 AM) If a guy doesn't prove himself, he shouldn't be talked about. Tyler Lumsden has a pretty good arm down in the Sox minor league system, but I'm not ready to proclaim him as the next Steve Carlton, largely because he has not proven himself. The reason I am saying that Liriano is better is because he has proven himself to me. I have seen him pitch quite often, and the guy is truly, flat out, amazing. I have seen Santana pitch quite often too, but Liriano just looks better to me. Better stuff, not quite the control of Santana, but he is full of confidence, and he has the composure of a veteran pitcher. I've never seen a player period come out of the minors and be more MLB ready than Liriano is. He is a freak. So yes, it makes sense I don't think that anyone would doubt that Liriano has some nasty stuff and knows how to pitch. But he's pitched not even half a season. Santana has been pitching for much longer than that, and at an extremely high level as well. Give it another year or 2 before comparing Santana/Liriano with some of the greatest of all time.
  4. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 10:56 AM) Because he can lose. And he will. It's the beauty of the game. Where else can you fail 7 out of 10 times and be considered a success. Or how about being the pitcher with the most wins--and the most losses. (all-time)
  5. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 09:59 AM) I would NEVER place Santan/Liriano next to any of those names. No way. Johann has proven himself, but Liriano has only ptiched half a year!!! No way he deserves comparison to those names or mention of HOF yet. He can't hold their jock, yet. I remember when Felix Hernandez debuted last year. So much hype, so many dominating games. He was a Cy young pick by many experts this season. A can't miss. The arm, the power, the control! He is 8-8 with a 4.95 era. It is SOOO eay to fall in love with a great young arm and predict his future. But I think we sould keep things in perspective. Great example. I actually forgot about "King Felix". Not to say he won't get back to form and start dominating again, but people are quick to wet their pants over these young, can't-miss prospects.
  6. The "frisbee" was so fun to watch. I'd be cracking up every time I saw Shingo strike a guy out. An 85 mph fastball and a 55 mph frisbee? That ain't right.
  7. I don't know, call me crazy, but I'm a believer in proving yourself. To me, Santana is the better pitcher because he gets it done year after year. I'm not knocking Liriano in any way, but who knows what could happen a year down the road? Some freak injury, the league figures something out, who knows. So RIGHT NOW I will still consider Santana the better pitcher. And I will glady change my stance a year down the road when Liriano is still mowing guys down. Does that make sense?
  8. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 09:36 AM) There isn't much to spin here if the Sox doctors screwed up. The only alternative is Frank is lying through his teeth, and I just don't see that happening. That, or the old and fragile slugger who has never been healthy is whining again. It's a damn shame the way Frank was treated in this town. It really bothers me...
  9. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 08:44 AM) If they screwed up, they should be held accountable. Agree. Unfortunately I can see this story being spun to make Frank look like the bad guy like always.
  10. QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 11:43 AM) Wanna laugh for a half hour? read the 104 post thread presently going on this at nsbb Cora did it on purpose! What a douchebag! haha I love how they're all saying they hate the White Sox more because of this. huh?!?! Cub fans: redirecting the blame since 1908.
  11. Buerhle 8-4 Contreras 10-2 Garcia 8-5 Garland 9-2 Vazquez 3-4, then HE GONE... McCarthy 6-2 Be right back, I need some more kool-aid
  12. Konerko's "seeing eye single" in the 9th. It was hit pretty solid. But not a laser by any means. Not a big deal, but this one got me: Eric Gag-Knee. Yeah, I know. Normally this wouldn't bother me, but so often I hear Cub fans mispronounce player names. And most of the time the players are on THEIR TEAM! Do they even watch baseball?!?!?!? I don't know why I still let them get to me. haha
  13. QUOTE(Dan @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 11:16 PM) i thought everyone was brought up using Fungo bats. Me too. Fungo is a pretty standard term. Just like playing "pickle", right? ...Right?! (FYI, I'm referring to the fact that my parents call it "running bases", not pickle. I grew up playing pickle)
  14. Indians are shopping Mota? Call me crazy, and maybe I've had too much of the Coop-Ade, but would you take a chance on this guy? I guess the only difference between ressurecting a Mota and a Thornton is the fact that Mota is 32. Can't teach an old dog new tricks, as they say. But anything's better than Cliff...which is hard for me to say because I'm a fan of the guy and I'll never forget his 2005 season.
  15. Cliff Politte v. 2006 (from the left side) Hard throwing reliever who's been around for a little while, all the sudden has a breakout year. I'll take it.
  16. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 12:43 PM) It's closer than you think, Fenway is ridiculously priced. I parked yesterday in the ITT lots, and we were still charged 18 dollars. I was shocked at how far away we were and the fact we were paying full price for parking, even if there were shuttle buses. It's far away, but the buses are great. They take you right up front. I've done that when I wasn't the one driving. If I'm driving, I'm stubborn and won't pay for parking. That's 3 beers I could be having instead. So I park on a side street. But I think all but 2 or 3 lots are reserved now because of all the season tickets that were sold. So you have to get there super early to get a cash lot by the park.
  17. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 10:46 AM) Three times face value at the Cell, plus a plane ticket both ways, isn't much more expensive than parking and seeing a game from the lower level. It makes sense to pay that fare, to come to one of the best cities in the world, and watch your team play in one of the premier parks. It just does. I was kinda sorta joking. I'm 20, in college, and broke. I ain't paying 3 times face value for tickets. I don't even park in the lots because they cost 18 bucks. I have my own parking spot.
  18. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 09:47 AM) With Boston fans offering to pay TRIPLE face... many ST holders gave up their seats. True...another similarity to Cub fans. Paying out their asses for tickets. That makes them the most hardcore fans around. :rolly Me not paying that much for a ticket makes me a bad fan. I say it makes me broker (more broke, whateva) than I already am!
  19. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 08:43 AM) Hey, whatever. I didn't poll the crowd to see where they were from. I just know they were cheering too much and I didn't like it. Here, New England, f*** 'em all. And I'm sick of Big Sloppy and Big Sloppy T-Shirts. I wasn't directly referring to your post, it was more of a general statement. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 08:45 AM) You also have to realize that there were more Red Sox fans than White Sox fans on both friday and saturday, which I expected, according to Farmer and Singleton. If there were more Red Sox fans than White Sox fans, then the Red Sox have the quietest fans in baseball. 3-5 thousand sounds more realistic. Somebody will have to check my numbers here, but I BELIEVE 28,000 tickets are sold for every game through season tickets alone. So the amount of visiting fans for any team cannot be that high.
  20. In defense (shudders) of the Red Sox fans here, you have to realize the Red Sox fans we deal with in Chicago aren't Red Sox fans. They're Cub fans. Hence the similarities: Old stadium Always worrying about attendance Media blows up every story Curses Whiners Always 2nd best (White Sox/Yankees) So I don't think it's fair to criticize New England Red Sox fans. PS, Everyone says they dislike the Yankees, well I can't agree. You can only use the payroll argument for so long. But those teams of the late 90's were damn good teams that weren't just stacked with All-Stars from the year before. If they don't win the World Series the season is a failure! If the Red Sox don't win the WS, it's because of Babe Ruth's ghost.
  21. Well I have noticed Cub fans seem to think they have some connected with the Red Sox. It could just be a lot of Cub fans.
  22. QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 03:36 PM) In no particular order Men In Tights Spaceballs Airplane American Pie Liar Liar Office Space Hot Shots Dumb & Dumber Three Amigos Police Academy movies Heeey, IWC. I didn't know you posted here.
  23. Busters is more of a club scene, Molly's and Bar One are on Lincoln Highway, Lord Stanley's is downtown, the Barn has a lot of underage kids. That's about as much as I can tell you because I've never been to any of the bars. 6 more months, 6 more months, 6 more months. QUOTE(bmags @ Jun 28, 2006 -> 09:10 PM) the fans at NIU pay more attention then the fans at Mizzou was my experience...mizzou's football was pathetic. I'll be the first to admit, that's not the case for the people I hang out with at games. We tailgate for about 2 hours before the game, only stay for the first half, and then continue tailgating until 6 or whenever they kick us out. Then again I'll never say I'm a hardcore NIU football fan. If I was I'd stay for the whole game. Football is just boring to watch for me.
  24. From what I've been reading, ratings have been going up lately. But from what I've seen, the WWE is putting out more crap than they have been in the last few years. Since I usually only catch Raw, DX is the only thing I look forward to. On the rare times I catch Smackdown, that Lashley guy looks like he has a future. But overall, I feel like I'm back in 1990. Hacksaw Jim Duggan? Doink? Kamala? Tatanka? Lame gimmicks like the Boogeyman, Umaga, Little Bastard, the Highlanders (who I'll admit I enjoyed), The Great Khali, etc. In a down time for professional wrestling, you need to make a big splash. DX is a good start, but it's all been done before! In my opinion, DX needs to get a bunch of new wrestlers and create a superforce in the WWE to take on ECW. But that brings up my next point, ECW COULD of been good, but Vince decided to take all power away from Heyman therefore making ECW the "C" show for the WWE (with Smackdown being "B"). What's next, Nash and Hall show up and attack DX in the middle of the ring, Hogan comes down to save DX, and proceeds to turn on them and create a New World Order of wrestling with Hall and Nash?!?! Vince McMahon really frustrates me sometimes. But back to what I was saying, hosses draw. There are a lot of duds out there, but for the most part your Batista's, Lesnar's, Lashley's, they are the guys that are going to draw. Lesnar was a big reason I kept watching wrestling a few years ago...but I don't know if he's ever going to come back. From what I've read, and from the little I've seen, Lashley's got a shot at becoming a star. The biggest exception to the hoss rule would have to be Shawn Michaels. He could hang with anyone. His matches were great to watch because they really told a story, and he would just lay his body on the line. Big or small, it didn't matter. It's a shame he's getting on in years, as he's been one of my favorite wrestlers to watch for a long time. Are there any WWE produced Shawn Michaels DVDs out there? I might have to pick one up.
