  1. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 09:27 AM) It's for an inning... I'm sure Gene enjoys the break. As for Nancy, she's been at 13 games so far this season which was HER CHOICE. An inning doesn't bother me, in fact I think it's great if kids get a chance to be the PA announcer for an inning. That would be the thrill of a lifetime. But he misses games from time to time. Like the NCAA Tournament. It's a great opportunity for him, but that doesn't change the fact that games aren't the same. And I know Nancy decided to take it easy this year. That still doesn't change the fact that games aren't the same without her too.
  2. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 11:07 AM) Sorry, but I wouldn't be bragging about that email. Thank you, that's what I was going to say. Let's just give Jay more material for his next column.
  3. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 10:36 AM) Lowell is another guy whose doubles have gone up and homers decreased in the last few years. Hmm... Those 380 foot shots are turning into 345 foot shots...hmmm... edit, the fact that we even bring up steroids (HGH, whatever) shows how f-ed up baseball has become because of your Bonds, Sosas, Palmeiro's, McGwires, Cansecos, etc. I hope the sport can recover so everytime a guy hits below his power averages he isnt accused of taking steroids.
  4. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 08:25 AM) um...who cares? A lot of people. Gene is the voice of Sox games. It just isn't the same without him. Just like it hasn't been the same without Nancy at all the games this year.
  5. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 09:20 AM) Alright everyone, I cleaned this thread out a bit lets try to keep this semi civil por favor. My bad, I just posted while you were doing the cleaning I think.
  6. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 09:04 AM) I think you were told politely to shut the f*** up because posters don't want yet another thread to become a media rant. Obviously the majority does not rule. ...But this whole ordeal has to do with Ozzie and the media. The media is blowing this way out of proportion, and you know why? Because they know they can get a reaction out of Ozzie. The biggest thing we all have to note here (and I know I'm preaching to the choir) is that Ozzie says what other people don't have the balls to say! He speaks the truth. When Ozzie called Jay a "***", he wasn't calling him gay. Everyone knows that. But people (in this case the gay community) need a reason to b****. And if people are b****ing at the White Sox, the media has another reason to make this team look like the bad guys in town. The Tribune must be loving this. The words gay and *** don't even mean the same thing anymore. Slurs have become so irrelevant in the past few years. Rappers use the N word a million times in their "songs", black comedians refer to white people as crackers all the time, Latino comedians will use wetback and all the other ones, and ever since 9/11, our entire country has developed a hatred for anyone from the Middle East, terrorist or not. It's hard not to take this from sexual preference to race, but the situations are similar. But some dude from San Francisco who likes another dude is offended that a baseball manager used the word ***? Grow some balls. ...whew...I could never say that stuff at WSI! I was banned for MUCH less, haha
  7. It's already been said, but I'm just backing up the opinion that *** and gay don't even mean the same thing anymore. Gay means you're just being dumb, being dorky, whatever. *** just refers to a guy acting feminine. Maybe I should just become a PC asshole and complain everytime I see a leprechaun or an Irish man drinking and/or fighting on TV.
  8. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 12:31 AM) Ive always been a big DJ fan but Hawk is starting to get to me. Which is strange because I always loved Hawk but this season he is starting to get on my nerves. I hope he doesnt stick around long enough where he becomes what Johnny Red Kerr or whatevr is to the Bulls. I like Kerr, but I can definitely see where you're coming from. His random "OH!"'s are almost Santo-esque. Let's just hope he (Hawk) doesn't become another North Side version of Harry Caray.
  9. How soon we forget Hermanson's 0.00 ERA last year.
  10. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 01:21 PM) 'Dego'?? Derogitory (sp?) term. I don't like it when non-Italians use it...but I don't get all worked up over it. Most people have no idea it's a racist term.
  11. QUOTE(bmags @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 10:08 PM) i have a life. haha! thank you, I also had no idea what VORP was. It sounds like a noise Spongebob would make.
  12. Your point is.... The Cubs suck? I could of told you that...with less numbers too.
  13. Awesome. Way to represent out in Cincy. I noticed lots of Paulie chants during the games. Nothing will compare to the Chicago Rockies game though. Man, they might as well have been on the south side.
  14. My grandpa always had a funny view on Harrelson/Farmer. He said he didn't mind when Hawk talked about his baseball days, because he would always put himself down, but at the same time Hawk was good. He HATED when Farmer talks about his baseball career, because according to my grandfather, he sucked! (...although I believe Farmer DID make an all-star team)
  15. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 01:49 PM) Pretty much. Don't like it, you STFU also. Have a nice weekend. To each his/her own. All this time I was being raised to be a respectful member of society. I guess not everyone chose that path.
  16. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 01:55 PM) Seems like you enjoy arguing more than having a civilized discussion. What about this confused you: Perhaps you don't understand the definition of hyperbole? If I'm going to get smart ass comments every time I say something, I'm going to defend myself. And no, I did not know the definition of a hyperbole. I'm a math major, I know hyperboLAS!
  17. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 02:44 PM) Well I'm sorry that it's frustrating and yes I know what you're saying. But the same holds true for his media watches (Trib and Sun Times story counts to be accurate). He doesn't like what he sees in the newspapers and comments on it every single day. Maybe he should say it once and be done with it? If people here don't think something makes sense, they will comment on it. If something is posted every day that people feel doesn't make sense ... you guessed it, they will comment on it. It wouldn't be much of a media watch if he did it once and was done with it. That would kind of defeat the purpose.
  18. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 02:44 PM) probably Alright man, take a breather. I never called anyone on the Sox a pussy. Nor do I think any one of them is. From what I saw of the Cubs incident, the Sox players were the ones laying some serious blows. In fact, if you saw Ozzie's interview, he was pissed off. He was ready to throw down right there with the reporters. As for AJ not fighting, well you didn't read all of my post apparently.
  19. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 01:47 PM) People will read and comment on what they want around here, it's always been that way. But it's awfully frustrating to want to read the media watch of the day and have to sift through 100 posts of people saying how much they hate it. You don't like it? Congratulations. Say it once and be done with it. Not everyone agrees with your viewpoint. I'm not going to go to a rap concert every day and tell the guy next to me how much it sucks. That wouldn't make much sense now, would it. See what I'm sayin?
  20. QUOTE(tigerfan @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 02:00 PM) I respect your opinion but to me fighting really doesn't prove that much, except that you can do it. I mean if you brawl with a team and still get your butt kicked 12-2, then what good was it really? You may have won the battle, but you still lost the war. I will say this though, as much as I don't agree with the whole retaliation deal, sometimes a fight like that can bring a team together, and get them fired up. The Sox/Tigers brawl in 2000 seemed to have that affect on the Tigers. They were struggling before that, and actually made a playoff push late in the year. In regards to Showalter not getting any heat for what happened the other night, I think had Ozzie not gone off the deep end publicly with Tracey, maybe he would have taken some criticism also. Hey, it's the two different viewpoints that will always clash. Some people believe in fighting, others believe in keeping the peace. I believe in fighting. Like I said, it's how I was brought up. You earn respect by not taking any crap from anyone. Similar to me calling out all the smart asses on this site who seem to think they can say whatever they want. On the other hand, this is a professional business. If somebody pissed me off at work I can't go to their desk and start swinging. I'd get fired and have lawsuits being thrown my way. In baseball, you don't get the lawsuits, but they do get fined and suspended. In AJ's case, he did not want to miss any time and risk hurting his team. I can respect that decision. It's not what I would do, but still. But like you said, a good basebrawl can sometimes be the defining turning point in a season.
  21. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 08:46 AM) I'll be done when useless unrelated BS is no longer posted about me. I'll read what I choose, but thanks for your concern. So you just enjoy being a rude and ignorant smartass?
  22. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 11:34 AM) Exactly why I asked if you were using hyperbole, it's not hard to answer a simple question. Ahh, we got another smart ass on our hands. Is this part of the initiation process or what? I feel like I'm arguing with my little brother.
  23. QUOTE(Felix @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 09:46 AM) yes please You don't like em? Don't read em.
  24. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 12:18 PM) sexist?? ...do you not know what Kotex is? Anyway, tigerfan I will respectfully disagree with you. Winning is a great way to make a statement, but you can be a bunch of pussies and still win. It takes a little more to get real respect around the league. Standing up for your teammates is part of that. It must be my Irish up-bringing showing through. If somebody hits me, I hit back. And it won't stop until somebody is in the hospital.
  25. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 03:30 PM) You can't win because you're making ridiculous claims, no one denies the fact that Maddux has always had a large strike zone but 6 inches is f***ing excessive. It was a "f***ing" exaggeration.
