QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 08:59 PM) The Q&A session at Soxfest should be overflowing with people lining up to question this crap. Yes, but the answer to those questions is very simple: "We are cheap and unreasonably risk averse. See Chicago Bulls."

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 08:56 PM) That IS the correct spelling, lol In "internet land"?

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 08:36 PM) coughpwndcough If you're going to be a d-bag, at least get your spelling right.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 08:29 PM) Their peripherals are almost identical. 3-31-05 - 6-27-07 GS IP H ER HR BB K HBP ERA WHIP K/9 BB/9 HR/9 K/BB PITCHER A 79 533.6 568 230 69 105 307 13 3.88 1.26 5.2 1.8 1.16 2.92 PITCHER B 79 536.6 551 231 59 117 273 17 3.87 1.24 4.6 2.0 0.99 2.33 That's cute, but your stats are selective, and you know it. MB's peripherals have always been good except for 1 year (2006). As 2007 has shown, in 2006 MB was one of those rare cases of "tired arm" in that he really had a tired arm, and not some kind of hidden injury (like Garcia). Take away 2006 for both MB and Garland, and then compare their career numbers.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 08:17 PM) He's put up cumulative numbers almost identical to those of Mark Buehrle since the start of the 2005 season. His peripherals are garbage, unlike MB. His decline will be steep and unforgiving as he ages.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 08:13 PM) That's ridiculous. That's your opinion. He's a league-average starter...Nothing more.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 08:05 PM) Don't forget whoever takes over for Garland. If you're not going to give out NTC, you better be trading Garland, Contreras, Thome, Iguchi, etc. Trade them all. Only Garland is worth fretting over in that group, and his K rate has always indicated that he'll experience an early decline. He's barely worth the money he's making now.

Red Sox/White Sox Trade Proposal
TheHolyBovine replied to redandwhite's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 05:43 PM) Red Sox would move Ellsbury for the right guy....they won't trade Buccholz though. Yes, and Ellsbury is exactly the kind of no-talent grinder that we need to avoid. I say again, EFF Boston. -

QUOTE(mainesox @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 05:00 PM) Stark (Insider) is reporting Boston is back in the mix, apparently looking to expand the deal to include Lugo. Including Lugo in a Buehrle deal is odd to say the least. Of course they want to include Lugo...Wouldn't you want to dump that salary? If I were KW, I'd stay the hell away from Boston and focus on the Dodgers. -
Red Sox/White Sox Trade Proposal
TheHolyBovine replied to redandwhite's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
This entire thread is one of the worst I've seen this year, and that's an impressive accomplishment. I actually don't mind Pena; I think he will be a pretty decent regular someday, and could become the next Carols Lee if everything lined up perfectly for him. That being said, he's nowhere close to Kemp. Kemp's an amazing prospect in every way. He's rated significantly higher than Pena by statheads and scouts alike. -
QUOTE(chisox2334 @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 11:00 PM) Berry offered no other details, other than adding the Sox "have to make a decision where their organization goes."... ...Scouts from Philadelphia and Los Angeles attended Tuesday's game. If this really is a stare-down contest between KW and MB, let it be said that no one is more stubborn than Kenny. And if you HAVE to trade MB, send him to LA for Kemp and Betemit.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 09:12 AM) According to KW, he's waiting to get the Buehrle situation resolved before making any other moves. So basically, the worst case scenario would be to have to trade Buehrle for a less than tremendous package, and then have to keep Contreras and his contract. They really need to get this Buehrle situation resolved in the next 10 days though. I don't think the Mets will ever be as desperate for pitching as they are now. I think you're right, but that's just more bad GM'ing by KW. He should be looking to trade Jose regardless of what happens with MB.

How far would you take the 'fire sale'?
TheHolyBovine replied to thedoctor's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 01:20 PM) So where is all the rest of the money? Tied up in scouting and development, apparently... QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 01:09 PM) Oh, I would take it far. Not as far as the Marlins, but pretty far. I dreamt something up like this a couple days ago (I'll work out the trades on another day). CF, Jacoby Ellsbury SS, Yunel Escobar DH, Jim Thome 1B, Paul Konerko RF, Geoff Jenkins C, Jarrod Saltalamacchia 3B, Josh Fields LF, Ryan Sweeney 2B, Danny Richar I like the way you're thinking, although Ellsbury would be an impossible get without trading MB to BOS, and you obviously see him going to Atlanta. Oh, and Geoff Jenkins is terrible. You would be better off bringing Dye back. -
Milton Bradley DFA'ed by A's
TheHolyBovine replied to TheHolyBovine's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 05:31 PM) Don't let Milton Bradley near the clubhouse. Right, because our chemistry is so great now. There are so many hypocrites on this site. Carl Everett was a psycho until he joined the Sox, then he magically transformed into a "team leader"? Now we shouldn't touch Bradley because he has issues? What if Bradley's a good teammate, just like Everett supposedly was? I don't know one way or the other, but the point is this: neither do you. -

QUOTE(Soxfest @ Jun 21, 2007 -> 10:43 PM) Pass on this headcase! Please. If we took on Carl Everett (twice), there's no reason why we can't take on Bradley. -
I don't care about his injuries. This is a player KW needs to go after. He is a 100% upgrade from anyone we have in CF or LF. Plus, he is "free talent" at this point.
-
Threads like this do not help in the current situation. Don't encourage KW.

QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 12:59 AM) You think the Padres would trade Peavy for Dye? That's more realistic than what I've been seeing here. The Dodgers wouldn't trade Billingsley or Kershaw for what we're looking to trade away (Dye, MB, etc.). Now Betemit and Loney for Dye is realistic. Of course, if that happened, you would have to move Loney to LF since he doesn't have nearly the power needed for a regular 1B.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 06:05 PM) Pods and Erstad were performing poorly when they went down? Jeez, what the hell was I watching? Get out of the 80's, and get to know the meaning of OPS... ...Or else go join Sox management.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 09:22 PM) Our minor league players that have joined the big league team (Molina, Sweeney, Owens, Fields, Gonzalez) are now 16-108 this season with like 5 extra base hits. Yes, our future looks amazing! Amen! True. Just think how bad we'd feel if we had gotten there but lost to the Stros instead.

QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 12:05 PM) Baseball is more than stats. Hi KW/Hawk, how are you?
-
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 12:46 AM) why do people feel the need to make these declarations? Seriously, I'm curious, what's the appeal of declaring the season over? I love the Sox as much as anyone, but sometimes objective reality forces my hand.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 12:30 AM) I think it would be Ozzie clamoring to bring him back. Sadly, I'm sure you'll hear us associated with the likes of Chone Figgins, David Eckstein, etc. You're right; Ozzie does have far too much say in the transactions made by this organization. That being said, there will come a point (and sooner rather than later, I think) when KW will need to make decisions based on keeping his own job rather than enabling Ozzie.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 12:25 AM) I'll guarantee that the Sox will bring back Erstad next season, even if he doesn't meet his option incentives. And as soon as that happens, KW should not only be fired, but banned from baseball entirely.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 12:23 AM) The Tribune is reporting that the Giants have had a scout in attendance at the last two Sox series. Maybe we're seeing if we can trade one of our AARP players for one of theirs. Let's bring back Sugar Ray and put him in LF. LOL.
