QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 03:03 PM) Oliver Perez, LHP who throws in the upper 90's but has stunk for two years. He no longer throws in the upper 90s...More around 90-91.

I'd love to get Wilkerson for Garcia. Wilkerson's no great shakes, but he's far better than Pods.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 09:08 AM) If he doesn't, Tyler Lumsden could make us regret it. With TL's K/BB ratio, he's not going to make us regret anything.

UPDATE: KW was interviewed by Dibble and Kennedy on XM's "The Show", and said that there's no way that any pitcher off of the major league roster will be traded before the deadline. He said that he told BMac personally that he's not going anywhere. "Brandon McCarthy is part of our present and future. He's not going anywhere."

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:14 PM) Gload in RF tonite, Dye gets a rest. Maybe Dye's getting traded.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 03:49 PM) Winning now isn't guaranteed. Our position now in the standings doesn't even guarantee a playoff spot. And often the idea of "winning now" kills an organization several years down the line. Decisions are made which are regretted later. Ask San Francisco how they delt with "winning now" when Pierzynski was traded for. Or the Mets with Scott Kazmir. Above all us, we traded Lumsden to a division rival!!! We're giving them a legitimate starting pitching prospect to pitch against us in the future. To answer Chaos, I'm concerned about our farm system because I'd like an arm or two available in several years when this rotation is disassembled. Lumsden seemingly gave us hope, and had good peripherals to project as a mid to upper starter in the rotation. Now, what do we have? You terribly overrate Lumsden. He's 23 and in AA, so he's not exactly young for his level. His ERA is good (2.69), but it hides weak peripheral numbers. Three of the strongest predictors of future major league success for minor league pitchers are: 1) Strikeout rate 2) K/BB ratio 3) HRs allowed Despite Lumsden's supposedly awesome stuff, his k rate/9 IPs is well below avergae (5.23) for a "big time" prospect. His K/BB rate is also below average: 1.8 Finally, he's given up 9 HRs in 123.2 IPs, which is just OK. We did not trade away Scott Kazmir, here. Cortes has a 4.01 ERA in low-A ball, so he shouldn't even enter into the duscussion. Great trade KW: Shipping away an overrated minor league for a major league ready reliever with great stuff, who is under our control through 2009.

QUOTE(soxpride77 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 02:52 PM) The Twins are most definitely not a better team. They have two great young pitchers in Santana and Liriano. They also have Mauer, Morneau, Cuddyer, and several more pitching prospects with great stuff in the minors. They will be the team to beat in 2007 and beyond.

This is a sad day, as I've come to the realization that the Tigers and Twins are significantly better teams than the Sox, and will continue to be going forward. This is what happens when you constantly deal your prospects: You create a window of opportunity, but it doesn't remain open very long. Our lineup is old. Our pitching is overrated and locked up long-term. So, in other words, get used to this staff; outside of the addition of McCarthy, it won't change very much until 2008. The Tigers and Twins have reinvigorated their teams with the addition of young, power arms. Like the Yankess, we threw money at the issue (Vazquez); like the Yankess, we're getting burned. I love KW, but I'd really wish he'd try drafting a power arm every now and then. I think we have enough soft tossers at the ML level.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 12:57 PM) Well, our starters also throw as many pitches as anyone in baseball over the last two seasons. Exactly. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 12:54 PM) Outside of Contreras being out two weeks, what other injuries have our starters have? The Cubs haven't really had their starters all healthy for an extended period. Don't get me wrong though, outside of Zambrano, their starters suck. Actually, I agreed with Widger playing. We saw with Thome last night how difficult RJ is on lefties. As I said earlier, outside of Jose, our pitchers look like they're having arm problems. Velocity is down across the board. -

This is the one game where I wish Frank was around. He was always good for a homer off of Mussina. -

Outside of Jose, all of our starting pitchers look as if they have arm problems. If so, I'm not going to get mad at them. They gave us their all last year, and I'll never forget it. -
White Sox scouting Chris Burke of the Astros?
TheHolyBovine replied to RibbieRubarb's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Not only would Burke make a great bench player in 2006, but he may be the leadoff hitter/ LFer of 2007, after Pods departs. -
Official Game Thread 6/30 - Sox vs Cubs 1:20

Watching Jon pitch makes me physically sick. That no-trade clause is looking like an awful decision right now, although we couldn't get much for him at this point anyway. -
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jun 28, 2006 -> 10:30 AM) Okay, based on what? He still throws hard, just nowhere near the strike zone. Ollie still has above-average velocity for a lefty, but now he works in the 88-91 range. In 2004, when he dominated, he worked in the 93-96 range. Given his relative youth, many in Pittsburgh have come to the conclusion that his significant loss in velocity can either be attributed to: a) an injury that he's been hiding for a year and a half, or B) his inability to take steroids since the beginning of the 2005 season Most Pirate fans feel that "b" is more likely.

QUOTE(Dawgs @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 02:32 PM) You are the same guy that said Ill wait to see how they are doing in June, arent ya? They arent going away Sox fans. In fact they look to be picking up the pace. No, I'm not. I would never be stupid enough to use June as a barometer.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 02:29 PM) I don't get the comparison. I was trying to say that it's early yet, and I'm shocked that everybody is scoreboard watching in June. Does everyone think the Rangers will win the AL West? I don't, but they're in 1st place as we speak. I'll try to make a better comparison: Last year, the Nationals were in 1st place at the AS break, and they had a fantastic record in 1-run games. They didn't last, and neither will Detroit.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 02:27 PM) And a very good team. So are the Rangers. Like I said, we'll see.
-
I'll worry about the Tigers when they are leading the AL Central deep into August. Until then, they're a cute story.

QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 01:28 PM) If that's the "MLIVE" Tigers board, I wouldn't put any stock in it. It's mostly just 10 year olds. For a really good time, check out the MSU and UM basketball and football boards during the season. It's a pissing content Ozzie and Jay would be jealous of. Yeah, and I'm so excited that we now have some of those fine M-Live posters coming over here. I'm a U-M alum, so trust me when I say that the "M-Livers" will only add to the obnoxiousness level of this site.

So, where have all you boisterous Tiger fans been the past 20 years?
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jun 24, 2006 -> 10:21 PM) No need to worry. We'll be where we are supposed to be at the end of the year. You're my nominee for POTFY (Post of the f***in' Year). QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 24, 2006 -> 10:42 PM) Done. So I take it that you're suggesting that we should be very worried...
