Well that call was brutal.

QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 05:01 PM) After this, republicans deserve a 26 year old black transgender female atheist radical intersectional feminist lesbian Planned Parenthood employee who wears an Afro and a Black Lives Matter t-shirt with a picture of Colin Kaepernick on it. Nah, she needs to be half latino who spent many of her formative years in the middle east.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 04:20 PM) Technology just really isn't that reliable at this point, unfortunately. I don't deal with moving vehicle self-control or whatever you want to call "autopilot," but I do deal with video analytics and other integrated sensor systems so I've got at least somewhat of a related background. Generally speaking, recognizing fast-changing surroundings through a variety of sensors in a safe and extremely reliable and quick manner is a very, very difficult engineering challenge. They've already had one fatal accident due to a misidentification of a truck. It's exactly those sorts of challenges that are difficult to find and identify on paper/whiteboard before you start doing real-world tests, and that's really what I'm saying about traditional auto versus the new tech-based auto manufacturers--the tech guys are coming for a world where it's perfectly normal and expected for the end-users to be essentially beta testing the product, and that could lead to some dangerous scenarios. I think you are correct, but I'll say as someone coming from a legal background, I am shocked that they've even pushed through what they have already. My suv has some features that I would have thought were years away from a regulatory standpoint. The thing has cameras all over it that work to intervene in your driving should they determine an accident is probable. Now granted, it isn't anywhere close to what Tesla is stating in this press release, but really fairly advanced autonomy features. Auto braking, auto steering correction, traffic congestion assistance, etc. You literally enable the car to drive for you when in a traffic jam. It will speed up and slow down all on its own just based on what the vehicle in front of you is doing. I am almost afraid to try some of this stuff.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 12:30 PM) His entire platform has been b****ing about everything. Which is very likely a snapshot of what his behavior would be if he were actually elected to office.

I thought Van Jones made a great, however obvious, point last night after the debate. Essentially, he was responding to the complaints by Trump surrogates in regards to the liberal media and the general media bias towards him over the course of the general election. He basically said that Trump can't have it both ways. He can't claim that he is so incredibly intelligent, keyed-in, and talented so as to be able to solve all the world's complex problems (trade, healthcare, immigration, etc.), meanwhile, complain about things such as media bias and rigged elections and the like. These are precisely the type of challenges he will face in office, and yet, rather than seek to work through these issues, all he can do is cry and complain that everyone and everything is out to get him. Welcome to politics and leadership, Donald. I thought it was a great point that hasn't been made enough in the face of a lack of substantive solutions or ideas offered by his camp, and all the whining and crying he has been doing about the poll results.

Jose Abreu NEEDS to be Traded (Merge if need be)

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 12:01 PM) Agreed and considering the troubles the White Sox have had in finding an average DH the last few years he is probably more valuable to us than any other team in that respect too. Not only an average DH, but any kind of average bat, to be honest. We can't afford to be giving away productive bats for any reason right now, save some overwhelming offer. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 09:19 AM) That is an incredible background story of the house. I love it. Is that where you were raised? No. My childhood home was actually in Cherry Hill, between New Lenox and Joliet. We then moved to Hinsdale, IL when I was in the 7th grade through HS. My parents bought this home in 1995, and I lived there off and on until 2006 I guess, although I was pretty much out of there after 2001. At the time my parents bought it, it was owned by a guy who owned a women's clothing store. My mother, being a long-time customer of his, learned of the availability of the house and purchased it.

QUOTE (shipps @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 08:34 AM) Really a gorgeous home but the question is, is it haunted? I know you wouldnt tell us if it was but I have to ask. Honestly, when my parents first bought the house in 1995, there was a period where they were having some restoration work done and so they hadn't moved in yet. I used this as an opportunity to have friends over for some low-key fun. There were a few evenings, where I slept alone in the house, and I swore I saw and heard some crazy stuff. Nothing completely obvious, but plenty of strange noises and things I thought I saw out of the corner of my eye.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 08:21 AM) I love that style of houses. In my home town we have a slew of very old houses built by Pullman Standard for their management staff that I would love to buy one of. The character is just beautiful. I just don't have any repair and remodel skills at all that would be need to undertake something like that without going totally broke. Good luck to you man. Oh the bank owns it now...they walked away from it because they were idiots and kept pulling money out of it to use for other things, until the point where they were too far upside down to recover. So while my parents are my problem, thankfully, the house no longer is. The home was built by some Irishmen who was in the barbed wire industry, I believe. It was also the home of an amateur boxer in the 1920's, I believe by the name of Packy McFarlin. When my parents purchased it in 1995, the home was in pretty good shape. They restored a lot of the flooring and did a lot of work restoring much of the woodwork. Unfortunately, as they aged, they simply couldn't keep up with it anymore, and then compounded that by making a number of poor financial decisions. It got to the point where they were living there in the winter of '14/'15 with no working furnace. For years I had been trying to get them to either sell of walk away from the home. Finally, I convinced them to walk away from the house and move out to Vegas and I would buy them a home here, which they could rent from me. So in May and June of '15, I went back to Joliet and helped them pack up and move out. The bank has been sitting on it since then. The house went up for auction back in April, I believe, but there were no bidders at the opening price, which I think was $350k or so. I see now that they have put it on the market at $219k. At $219k, that property is an incredible bargain, however, the home is in such disrepair, that even a reasonable renovation is cost-prohibitive in that market. I have thought about contacting one of those home renovation shows to see if they would be interested in taking it on and making a show out of it. It would be one hell of a story to show someone bring it back to life.

So last year I moved my parents from their home in Joliet, IL out to Vegas, as their large home had become too much for them to manage and maintain any longer. This is the home I lived in from about 1995, after I graduated high school, off and on until I moved to Vegas in 2008. The house is in a historic district, is three stories, on .9 acres, and over 100 years old. It is an amazing home, but in need of a LOT of work, particularly things like HVAC system, plumbing overhaul, probably a new roof, and other large undertakings. If any of you are a glutton for punishment, and want to relive the movie "The Money Pit," the listing is here.

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Oct 19, 2016 -> 09:33 PM) Well that was super misleading. Elon tweeted that this was going to be related to Part 2 of the Model 3 reveal....but it really wasn't. Not that what they revealed ISN'T groundbreaking and a huge change for the industry, but I just really wanted to see what the inside of my car will look like. The big announcement was that ALL Tesla vehicles currently rolling out of the factory and for the future will be FULLY equipt with the hardware for FULL autonomous driving. "Eight surround cameras provide 360 degrees of visibility around the car at up to 250 meters of range. Twelve updated ultrasonic sensors complement this vision, allowing for detection of both hard and soft objects at nearly twice the distance of the prior system. A forward-facing radar with enhanced processing provides additional data about the world on a redundant wavelength that is able to see through heavy rain, fog, dust and even the car ahead. To make sense of all of this data, a new onboard computer with over 40 times the computing power of the previous generation runs the new Tesla-developed neural net for vision, sonar and radar processing software. Together, this system provides a view of the world that a driver alone cannot access, seeing in every direction simultaneously, and on wavelengths that go far beyond the human senses. Enhanced Autopilot adds these new capabilities to the Tesla Autopilot driving experience. Your Tesla will match speed to traffic conditions, keep within a lane, automatically change lanes without requiring driver input, transition from one freeway to another, exit the freeway when your destination is near, self-park when near a parking spot and be summoned to and from your garage." And the BEST PART: "Build upon Enhanced Autopilot and order Full Self-Driving Capability on your Tesla. This doubles the number of active cameras from four to eight, enabling full self-driving in almost all circumstances, at what we believe will be a probability of safety at least twice as good as the average human driver. The system is designed to be able to conduct short and long distance trips with no action required by the person in the driver’s seat. For Superchargers that have automatic charge connection enabled, you will not even need to plug in your vehicle. All you will need to do is get in and tell your car where to go. If you don’t say anything, the car will look at your calendar and take you there as the assumed destination or just home if nothing is on the calendar. Your Tesla will figure out the optimal route, navigate urban streets (even without lane markings), manage complex intersections with traffic lights, stop signs and roundabouts, and handle densely packed freeways with cars moving at high speed. When you arrive at your destination, simply step out at the entrance and your car will enter park seek mode, automatically search for a spot and park itself. A tap on your phone summons it back to you." https://www.tesla.com/autopilot This is all coming much faster than I think anyone anticipated...it will be interesting to see how this does on the market. The safety is the obvious selling point, along with the convenience, but some people, like myself, truly enjoy driving. I suspect there would be times when I would appreciate not having to actually drive, but for the most part, I find driving to be quite an enjoyable experience and a break from the other stressful parts of my day.

I don't like bringing in Allen, but we'll see what happens.
-
I wouldn't mess around if I was Francona. I'd bring Miller back for the 9th.
-
You almost get the sense that he let them hit it a bit today in an effort at efficiency.
-
Miller gets a double play on the first pitch. That pretty much guarantees he can go another 2 innings if he is effective.
-
Through 3!
-
Merritt through two...the Indians have to be thrilled with the way this is going so far.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 19, 2016 -> 12:02 PM) I don't think he is bad at what he does or anything like that, but he isn't my style for sure. Give me the excited homer any day. Well that is almost impossible by definition.

Wow, I don't agree with you guys at all on Buck...I think he and Smoltz have done a fine job thus far. I actually miss my old buddy Tim McCarver a bit too

QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 08:19 PM) Blue Jays still very much in this. Cleveland starting pitching just isn't good after Kluber. If their bats can come back to life, the can take this to game 7. It's really going to come down to whether Cleveland's bats can come alive too...people aren't talking about Cleveland's bats as much because they are up 3-1, but they've scored a grand total of 9 runs in 4 games.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 08:36 PM) They had a 99.9% win probability at that point, doesn't seem worth it, especially with three straight games. Yeah, but you are assuming they will need him for the next two games. As SS said, you manage to give yourself the best chance to win each game. You start getting too cute and you blow one you should have won.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 08:31 PM) Let's face it. Dodgers are conceding tomorrow pitching the kid. So it'll be 2-2 heading into Kershaw and the closer Jansen will be rested for huge Game 5. Facing Lackey? Absolutely not.

QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 08:29 PM) So he went from 5 pitches to 21 pitches by pitching the 9th. That's a big difference. If he isn't used tomorrow it's no big deal but I'd sure like to have him available for two innings tomorrow with young Urias starting. I just don't think it's worth getting cute over. They bring some other guy in, he happens to not be sharp, they get something cooking, and then all of the sudden you are using 3-4 more guys to get out of the inning and win. I think the odds are they could have pulled him without something like that happening, but it just isn't worth taking the chance IMO.

Well oh darn.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 05:38 PM) Cleveland still in good shape, but if Toronto's offense gets in gear, they can make it really interesting. Cleveland hasn't lost 4 in a row all year, so them not making the WS would be on par or maybe even a bigger gag than the 2003 Cubs. Tomorrow will be an interesting game in regards to how Francona manages, considering they have a guy starting that has only one previous start in the MLB in his life, versus Estrada. Francona did not use Miller or Allen today, and with an off day Thursday, one would fully expect these two to play a large role.
