  1. QUOTE (farmteam @ Apr 9, 2015 -> 05:05 PM) IMO You have to live with someone at least a year or so before getting married. Having your own space vs. having a shared space is a huge deal. Even if you're "living together" when you each have your own place, you know you still have your own place to go back to and it's not the same. But that is living in sin!!!!
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 7, 2015 -> 02:15 PM) A lot of people like a lot of things on Williams and his character appears to be high. HE is also said to have a slow reaction and I haven't heard many NFL insiders who have said they are certain he can correct that or that it won't impact his ability to be a difference maker at the NFL level (where everyone is quicker / stronger). I like Williams a lot but I don't know that the difference between him and someone else @ 7 would be all that significant, to be frank. If Mariotta hits, the difference between him and pretty much anyone we could draft would be there, thus, I would be okay moving up for that pick. I didn't say that it will happen but NFL people like pretty much everything about Marcus except for the unknown. No one really knows how he will respond to being in a pro-set. Everyone things the make-up and work ethic are their and that he gave some indications of being advanced (for running a spread offense) but the reality is he has never had a chance to showcase that ability at the collegiate level. All of his other skills are reflective of a top overall pick but it is the unknown that has everyone concerned. I'd argue that unknown exists with almost every freaking QB whose drafted. You typically get picked where you do based upon the physical skills, which are a requisite, but it is the mental skills at the QB position, which when matched with strong physical tools, will ultimately allow you to have long-term success. I have zero idea if Marcus would work, but at least we'd be putting him in a situation where we were rebuilding and could take some lumps early. He'd also be coming to a strong culture with a supposed bright young NFL mind. Lets also remember, if the plan is to move away from Jay anyway, than by doing this, Pace almost gets two shots at QB. He takes a shot now and than a few years from now if everything else is moving forward but QB, he could have a shot to take one more shot (as could Fox). Plus going with a young QB and taking the hit on Jay, would put the Bears in an extremely favorable cap situation 1-2 years down the road when ideally we would be headed toward competitiveness. I have to say, I think you have been right on with these last few posts about MM. If a QB ends up being a franchise QB, it justifies taking him anywhere, doesn't matter if he wasn't viewed as the #1 overall pick. The problem does not occur often because a QB was "overdrafted." The problem occurs because a QB busts.

  4. I'll admit, I always thought Shark was a major douchebag when he was on the Cubs.
  5. QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 06:23 AM) It's not the innings, it's the intensity of the innings he tries to throw too hard too often He is one pitcher you always read about "still throwing 98 in the 8th inning." This is the type of thing that wears a pitcher down. In the past there have been discussions of pitchers hsving down years after long playoff runs. It's not the extra innigs, although it could be for some, it's the I tensity of the postseason innings after the grind of the regular season. It's like sprinting the last 365 yards after the first 26 miles of a marathon. The pitchers need to do it because the competition is better but it is hard on them physically. Actually, in the last few seasons, he has started pacing himself more. He'll throw low 90's until he's either in a high-leverage situation early, or he's deeper in the game.
  6. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 03:54 PM) Putting an offer on a condo today, place just came on the market 2 days ago, they have 15 showings between today and tomorrow and already received a contract offer before I sent mine in. Offer is 5k over asking price, hoping it's enough and that's my best and final offer so fingers crossed! Good Luck Russ!
  7. QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Mar 29, 2015 -> 12:49 PM) Update on my new car purchase. I bought my new car yesterday. Got quotes from all the dealers in the area online during the week and worked them to beat each other. Ended up paying roughly $516 under invoice for my Subaru. The invoice price I found online varies from each source, but that's based on Edmunds and TrueCar. I even got them to throw in the tint at the last minute when they wouldn't go down in price anymore. Congrats!
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 18, 2015 -> 03:20 PM) I think Miggy is going to start entering the phase of his career where those nagging injuries are harder and harder to play through until it's impossible to play through them. Same thing happened to Albert Pujols too. Not to say he'll ever be a bad hitter, but I think we are beginning to see him break down. Oh, and after this year, the Tigers are on hook for $248 million over the next 8 years. Have fun with that one. There's always the Rangers.
  9. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 27, 2015 -> 12:59 PM) What? It has everything to do with Boras and how soon the extra zeros on his commission check increase. I think the point is it's still not Boras' decision to make.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 27, 2015 -> 12:32 PM) If you're a frequent business traveler you probably already have had a pilot with that issue. As well as met them in hundreds of other positions on your trips. The problem is it only takes once.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 27, 2015 -> 12:07 PM) Yes. To each his own. If I'm a frequent business traveler, I'd prefer to avoid those pilots.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 27, 2015 -> 10:45 AM) Just to stress since lots of the garbage media is ignoring this; most people with depression, even most pilots with depression, do not crash planes into mountains. Most people do not have to inform their employers about personal issues or illnesses or even mental problems. So you're cool with your pilot battling depression or mental problems?
  13. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 24, 2015 -> 07:11 PM) working twelves (and salaried! hooray!) so it's been between 6:30 and 7. At least I walked a good two miles around the site today. Get up at 5 a few mornings a week and get in a 45 minute workout...cardio or core...it'll do wonders for you.
  14. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 24, 2015 -> 11:15 AM) First couple of weeks I was getting a chance to go out and do some hiking in the hills around San Jose, but now I'm not even leaving the job site until seven. Really tough to even find time without even getting to motivation/laziness. My wife and I are going to Yosemite for a weekend soon and she's going to be kicking my butt on the trails. What time do you usually head into the job site?
  15. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 24, 2015 -> 06:27 AM) being on the road is destroying my routine How many days a week are you usually on the road, SS?
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 22, 2015 -> 07:33 AM) How did all five IND teams end up in the same bracket (Purdue, Valpo, IU)??? It was cool, that aspect, State Championship, like Iowa, Iowa State and UNI being in the same bracket (Iowa could have played Iowa State in the 3rd game (regional semi-final) theoretically. From having spent ten years in Kansas City and following both KU and Missouri sports very closely, this KU team is a SHADOW talent-wise from those former teams. I'm not even sure what players on the current team are sure-fire NBA players or even first round draft picks. Before, some of Self's and Williams' teams were so deep you had NBAers coming off the bench, like a Cole Aldrich type. I haven't been able to watch a single NCAA game before this past weekend (because of being blocked out in China), but ND really was impressive, they've got the inside presence with Auguste, strong guard play (Jerian Grant), Connaughton....Jackson, Vasturia, very well balanced IMO. That's because the sure-fire NBA guys are leaving after 1-2 years, and so the depth never builds enough to do that.
  17. Yeah, that is clean as hell too... I usually do a protein shake on days I work out, eat a salad (no meat) for lunch, and then something reasonably healthy for dinner that my wife makes...i might have a quest bar if i am hungry during the day...and i might have a beer or some frozen custard at night too... If you work out and eat reasonably, and add some protein to help your muscles recover, you're going to be in pretty good shape.
  18. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Mar 16, 2015 -> 03:55 PM) Quick question/dilemma... I work out regularly, typical Chest/Back/Legs/Shoulders/Arms split. An opportunity presented itself and I might be joining a soccer indoor team, that plays every Thursday. I've played a ton when I was a kid and I'd like to get back into it. How would I modify my workout split so my legs are not completely dead come game time? Take legs out of the workout on Thursday is your easiest answer.
  19. I used to play that course a lot when it first opened up...had a friend with a dad who used to take us all the time. That and Seven Bridges were pretty fun tracks back in the day.
  20. QUOTE (farmteam @ Mar 13, 2015 -> 06:26 AM) Sedans, compact or regular (think Corolla or Camry types). From what I've seen I should be able to do that, depending on the down payment. It looks like the mileage restrictions are where they can really get you. Everything is negotiable with these leases, nothing is really static except their formula which ensures they are going to charge you, over the life of the lease, more money than the new price of the car minus the projected residual value of the car you return to them once the lease is over. You can change mileage terms, down payment terms, the actual length of the term of the lease, etc. You have to ask yourself how many miles do I normally drive per year? How much do I want to put down? Do I believe I will be ready to buy or lease another vehicle in 3-4 years or do I expect I will have this vehicle for longer? Leases make sense if you don't drive more than 12-15k a year and you like a new car every 3-4 years. If you drive a lot or you don't mind driving cars into the ground, then you should buy something. In your shoes, just getting started with your career with student loans to pay, a slightly used car ('12 or later) might be a good option.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 12, 2015 -> 10:46 AM) That really depends on how much your wife gets along with your in-laws. It can be a pretty intense thing, and if it goes wrong, a b**** to sort out. Yeah, for sure...they come for weeks at a time now and my wife is fine...but permanent is waaaay different.
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 12, 2015 -> 09:44 AM) Yes, but if them being there meant not having to pay for a nanny/childcare, I think I could live with it. Yeah, that's pretty much where I'm at too...plus, when they inevitably begin needing more and more help due to increased age, it'll be easier to care for them. Not to mention the benefits to children being cared for by their grandparents rather than strangers.
  23. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 12, 2015 -> 09:37 AM) Would probably make a lot of sense in SW where there could be bigger market. I'm pretty sure the chicago two-flat, and every other cities (brownstones, philly/baltimore rowhouses) were actually build for multi-family. They just became something different. Oh good point... Do you think living with your parents and/or your in laws, even if in a well-designed, large space, would drive you absolutely f***ing crazy though?
  24. So I mentioned in another thread I am shopping for a home for my parents, because they would like to move out to Las Vegas (where my wife and I live). We have a son on the way. My wife's parents live here in Las Vegas as well. Am I nuts for considering having a multi-generational home built? Apparently these are beginning to become a little more commonplace in the United States, but are fairly common elsewhere in the world. Rising childcare, healthcare, energy and other costs of living are continuously increasing, and it is cheaper to maintain one large household than several small ones. I dunno, it seems to make quite a bit of sense assuming you can design a home in such a way that allows for the separate generations to have adequate space and privacy.
  25. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 10, 2015 -> 10:06 AM) My Kenmore elite fridge and dishwashers are the balls. Fantastic machines. Good to know, Rock.
