  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 8, 2014 -> 01:04 PM) I really have a hard time understanding how this isn't justification. You are, you may not think you aren't, but you are. Oh, ok...well than then matter is clearly settled.
  2. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 8, 2014 -> 12:23 PM) OK, but then isn't an indefinite suspension an overreaction the other way? They just came out with a policy that gave first time offenders a six game suspension but now he is retroactively getting more? Not to absolve Ray Rice for what he did, but it isn't his fault that this tape didn't come out until now. It just sets a poor precedent, but perhaps that is better than stubbornly sticking to a decision which was wrong to begin with. The NFL's punishments should not be this highly influenced by public opinion, but it is clear that they can be. This new age of the 24/7 news cycle and social media is going to force organizations to assume the worst and act swiftly, rather than trying to limit the damage.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 8, 2014 -> 10:54 AM) Listen, this isn't the victim olympics. Just because this other terrible event happened that you think is being underappreciated doesn't mean another terrible event is unimportant. But you almost certainly will not gain support for your view by justifying domestic violence. You can say that's not what you were doing, but you were quite clearly saying Ray Rice's incident was not that bad because his wife was being drunk and annoying. Drunk driving in the NFL has a terrible history, as does this country. The Leonard Little era was disgusting. But there is likely less outrage for Brent because he did face criminal charges. Ray manipulated his way out of the charges, and the league showed way too much support for him. This also happens to be a common situation for victims of domestic violence, whereas victims of drunk driving tend to get the sympathy they deserve. People don't act like it was their fault. He never justified domestic violence. He said Rice's wife was being drunk and annoying, which she was. To point that out in no way justifies what Rice did, but it does show that Rice's wife wasn't showing impeccable judgment herself. There is nothing wrong in pointing that out, and once again (I believe it does bear repeating), it gets nowehere close to justifying domestic violence. Secondly, Rice did not manipulate his way out of charges. He struck a plea deal, which was the intelligent thing to do.
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 8, 2014 -> 08:13 AM) I don't see how this video changes everything. We already knew Rice knocked her out, to have some new reactions is childish. The suspension was sickeningly short before, and it remains sickenly short now. I think human is a better phrase. I knew there was a video, and I also assumed he must have whacked her pretty good to leave her unconscious, but to see him just knock her the f*** out like that really adds an additional layer of disgust to this.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Sep 7, 2014 -> 09:37 PM) I realize this probably sounds really stupid, but my parents and I have been trying to agree on a name for the new puppy. I've always wanted the name Bailey for a dog of mine, and apparently my mom has as well. I wrote down a list of like 20 names that I liked and we sat down and went through them all. My mom said she hated every single one of them. My dad liked a couple. A week ago we finally got it down to between Zoey or Abby. My mom liked Zoey, my dad liked Abby, but neither liked the other name. I said I liked both names, but since it will really be THEIR dog and not mine, I said go ahead and name the dog whatever name you want, as long as it isn't Bailey. So my mom decides the new puppy will be named Bailey. I guess it's not fair that I "hog" this name and don't allow them to use it, so I told her how about neither one of us names our dogs that name, since we both love it so much. She said too bad, it's not my decision. Am I wrong for being so disgusted in this? It's going to piss me off every time I call this dog by her name, since it's the name I've always wanted to name my first dog. Like I told her, I'd rather neither of us use the name, but no. I'm trying to get tell myself not to give a s***, but I can't help but feel like she's just being a dick by not considering any other names instead. It's especially annoying since my dad and I have done all the work finding a dog. I am the one who located this breeder, my dad and I have sent emails and called about this person and my mom has stayed mostly uninterested each time we try and update her about a dog, even saying she is fine with not even getting a dog. We've had to convince her to get this puppy. Ugh, f***ing 1st world problems, I tell ya. Yes, you need to get over this. And trust me, you will.
  6. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 8, 2014 -> 06:49 AM) don't worry steve, we'll track down the bastard that did this (congrats!)
  7. QUOTE (zenryan @ Sep 7, 2014 -> 04:55 PM) The OL is just disgusting. I'm sure Carolina let off some after it was 17-0 but you arent going to win many games when your RBs run it 16 times for 21 yards. They let two OL go and both are starting for other teams right now. Nicks retired but I'm sure they knew what was a good possibility and yet they only draft some major project late in the draft. Then they get Mankins from New England and he gets injured in the first half. Still after all that crap, there was a chance to get an INT and walk in for the game winning score and in typical Buccaneers fashion, it was dropped. Ugh, that pick six would have won me 5 bills...
  8. God help us all... J/k! Congrats, Steve and his hot wife!
  9. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 5, 2014 -> 07:51 AM) Yeah, but I'm starting to think he won't give it up for a while. Well you would know better than me, but from what I read, they are pretty enamored with Tretter, which is why they let Dietrich-Smith walk and were forced to start Linsley in the first place last night. I thought he handled the pressure/noise pretty well, although there was one play where the whole line was pretty pissed at him...I think he snapped the ball at the incorrect time and there was a fumble or almost a fumble, but a penalty bailed him out.
  10. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 4, 2014 -> 10:56 PM) I believe Seattle's scheme has him in the same spot no matter what WR is over there, which does seem a bit odd but it seems to work for them. If anything it makes me wonder if GB switched around their game plan to keep Jordy and Cobb away from Sherman as much as possible. Like you said earlier, has to be an odd feeling. Yeah, this was pointed out several times last night. They don't move their db's around. So Green Bay certainly wasn't going to line up Jordy against him very often.
  11. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 4, 2014 -> 09:12 PM) Loved my boy Linsley though. 4 of the 6 OSU draft picks are starting in the NFL. Pretty damn good hit rate. He's only starting because their starting center got injured 2 weeks ago...
  12. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 5, 2014 -> 06:19 AM) If they're a litigation attorney I would. Well how would you find out if the City had notice?
  13. If it were me, I'd say Redskins just for consistency's sake. One would think it would be difficult to break the habit for a span of entire games...then you say it a few times and you look like an idiot..."and the Redskins score first!...oops, I mean Washington...aww the hell with it, nobody's watching anyways..."

I hope Brian's dog eventually crapped. Hopefully Krush eventually got his dog to stop barking. My boys have finally stopped eating the house and the contents within, so that is nice.
  15. I don't know if there have been any studies in regards to the advent of porn/cybersex on the internet, but I wouldn't be surprised if the number of unintended pregnancies/rapes/STDs have been reduced as a result.
  16. To be honest, I think Trestman and Tucker made a mistake last year by allowing our vets on defense to talk them into sticking with many of Lovie's old schemes...instead of allowing Tucker to implement his own stuff. Then the injuries come along and most of these vets are out anyways...and I think we were sort of in limbo in terms of what schemes to run because the replacements hadn't played much or at all under Lovie and probably hadn't learned much of Tucker's schemes either. Hopefully this year we're a bit more organized and prepared and Tucker can run his own stuff and have proper accountability for same. Trestman needs to focus on the offense and on learning to manage the game...that struck me as a weakness for him last year.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 05:43 PM) See Barry Zito or Tim Lincecum, although I have ZERO confidence Danks will throw a no-hitter at any point the rest of his career. At least it's not the situation the a Tigers are in with Verlander...
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 09:57 AM) When the Sox traded for Thome, it was because he was a good hitter who was coming off an injury prone season and the Phillies had Ryan Howard come up and tear s*** up. Ryan Howard has been a bad and oft-injured hitter for 3 years now. It's not even worth considering. His contract is worse - like way worse - than Vernon Wells' contract was when the Angels traded for him. To be fair, he did mention the Phillies would be paying most of his remaining salary.
  19. You guys are so anal about announcing...you take Rod Gilmore and Mark Jones...I'll stick with Verne, warts and all...my gracious!
  20. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 04:27 PM) Fun legal question: 1) 14 year old male has sex with 21 year old female. This is statutory rape on the part of the female, but at the time it occurred the crime goes unreported. 2) Female becomes pregnant as a result of sexual encounter. 3) Female waits until one day after the statute of limitations expires on the rape to notify the male that he is the father and to file for both back and ongoing child support. 4) Court rules that because the crime was not reported within the statute of limitations, male is indeed responsible for child support. Does this dude have any recourse in civil court, along the lines of arguing that he has incurred financial damage as a result of crime and suing for damages, or is there a statute of limitations on civil actions as well? The immediate question that comes to my mind is does one have to pay back child support when the mother purposefully did not alert him of the child's birth? I'd also love to read the opinion of the court as to being responsible for a child conceived as a result of a statutory rape. One would think the analysis would be different between determining whether someone can be convicted of a crime and whether someone is responsible financially for a child as a result of said crime. Seems like unjust enrichment or something...
  21. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 01:14 PM) Troy Aikman and Joe Buck are by far the worst announcers. Maybe ever. C'mon
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2014 -> 01:10 PM) Soler is so much more ready than Baez is for the majors. Soler looks a bit like Vlad Guerrero at the plate. The limited number of PAs I have seen he reminds me most of Soriano.
  23. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 09:45 AM) I played yesterday. Shot a "96" (couple of foot wedges I didn't count). One of the worst all around rounds in I don't even know how long. I've had some 90 scores here and there over the years, but that's generally due to some real bad driving in water/OB or just not being able to putt at all to save my life. This was a case of not being able to hit anything well all day. Even when I hit perfect drives 250-260 to the center of the fairway, i'd chunk the 2nd shot 10-15 yards short or scold it 10-15 yards past. I think I did that at least 4 times. I was in bunkers all day. My pitches were consistently short. I couldn't figure out what the hell was going on. Absolutely miserable. My bro in law had a sweet shot though. Off the green about 10-15 yards, maybe 20-25 yards to the pin. He worm burns a pitch he was trying to flop right at the stick. This thing was going 50 mph and would have gone 30 yards over the other side of the green. Instead, he nails the flag stick about 3 inches above the hole perfectly square and it drops straight in. I've never seen anything like it before. Hah, have to love that! I dropped a chip yesterday for birdie and hit another pin, but it didn't drop like your bro in law's did. I had a similar day on Sunday to yours...just miserable...started off double/double/double and never really had my head in the round after that. I really need to work on my focus when things don't go well...
