QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 7, 2013 -> 10:26 AM) I think a life long dream of being on the Amazing Race is a bit much, but I have no problem with what she wants or desires. I just think they are in different spots in their life and it's pretty much unreconciable differences. I'm sure she was being a bit dramatic for argument's sake. But I don't disagree in re: their differences. Just think it's a bit harsh to pin it on her.
-
I think you guys are being a bit hard on the lady...she wants to be on the Amazing Race...this isn't the Real World or something where she's going to be drilling other dudes on the show. I sort of side with her...he's been dating her for 2 years. Sure, they are young, but he's effectively saying he wants her to date him for like 8-10 years before they get married and settle down. A LOT of women are going to balk at that suggestion, especially in year 2. Some you can string along forever, but if you flat out tell them after 2 years that you might be willing to marry her 6 years later, I think most of them are going to be like "umm, no."

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 7, 2013 -> 08:47 AM) Weren't they the number one seed in the AFC Last year? That's about where I'd expect them to have been "rated" coming in to the year, and they aren't playing like that. I'd say the same thing about the NFC's number one seed the last year, the Falcons. Well I don't really care to argue about semantics, or where certain people may have them "rated" or whatever. No one is talking about them being outstanding or anything right now. When I think of the word "overrated," I think of teams that people are talking about being very good, that simply aren't. The Dolphins were "overrated" coming into their matchup with the Saints. The Patriots are "overrated" right now. But whatever...we'll see how it all pans out.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 7, 2013 -> 08:37 AM) Not with their current QB situation. We saw the Chiefs go 2-14 last year with a very talented roster simply because their QB play was terrible. Change the coach and the QB and suddenly they're 5-0. They'll get that fixed. Schaub will either get his head on straight or they'll go with Yates, who will be serviceable. The Texans still have one of the more talented rosters in the League. They are playing outstanding defense, have a solid running game and a good passing game. The turnovers will start to even out and they will be winning games again. To say they are overrated is just incorrect. Do they stink right now? Sure. But they are certainly not overrated.
-
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 7, 2013 -> 08:21 AM) Texans continue to be one of the most overrated teams. I disagree very strongly. They'll be fine.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 7, 2013 -> 08:04 AM) You don't actually have to do any of that. You simply abolish the NCAA cartel's rules that forbid a school from paying athletes or from athletes making money outside of the school. Doesn't Boeheim's $1.8M+/year salary take away opportunities for free educations? Why does this argument apply to some of the NCAA labor force, but not other parts? I think we all smell what you are stepping in, but it's really a difficult problem to solve, and I don't have a clue what the solution is...if the NCAA then pays these players, do high schools pay them too? Certainly there are some high schools generating money off elite athletes.

QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 6, 2013 -> 07:31 PM) Lost in this blow out is how bad Kaepernick has been again. Fluke Well they've taken away a lot of what makes him dangerous because they fear he will get injured...

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Oct 4, 2013 -> 10:07 AM) I'm not eating nearly enough to gain the muscle I'm looking to gain. This is a problem. This is much easier than the other way around
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 12:09 PM) Right, but as mentioned in my earlier post the Sox are embarking on a rebuild with one of the worst farm systems in MLB. They are in a position where they have to pay a premium to shorten the process. Paying that premium is not the solution. The money you are talking about spending is so disproportionate to value that it wouldn't hardly make a dent. If you were eating a few million here and there it might work. Otherwise it's really no different than overspending on FA to try and correct the problem. One day you wake up and you've spent a s***load of money and have one of the worst farm systems in MLB.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 12:02 PM) How many free agents are there where you are going to be able to buy their 24-29 years for $30M? Hardly any, because of the service time requirements. But that surplus gets obliterated because of the attrition rate of prospects that turn into good mlb players.
-
Marty, what E and Wite are trying to point out is that prospects in and of themselves hold no greater value than any other player other than the price at which they cost to retain. If there was a liquid market for veteran players and cost was not an issue, one would choose the predictability of veteran players 10 times out of 10 over prospects. When you start paying $30 million dollars for players that have an attrition rate that prospects have, you're not only devaluing much of the value the good prospects have, but you are obliterating the value of prospects in general.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 09:47 AM) You could use wiremold to cover the cables without tearing into the ceiling, but if your floor joists are running the right way (i.e. you could run all the cabling between two joists, not having to go through a bunch), it wouldn't be too much work. Only a little bit more than running power and cabling up behind a wall-mounted TV. I bet Rock would be willing to pay you $300 to do it for him

QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 07:42 AM) I am not even certain of that. You are paying for the most heavily depreciated portion of the car cost. Unless you a suggesting that swapping cars every three years is the most expensive form of ownership, and within the subtext of most expensive, leasing is a viable option, then I agree. That is exactly what I am suggesting. I am not suggesting this is a wise practice; just that there is a reasonably large segment of the auto buying population that does this. If you are part of that segment, leasing is a reasonable option.
-
QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 07:13 AM) Actually the current average is closer to six years as widely reported. http://www.kbb.com/car-news/all-the-latest...igh/2000007854/ Yeah, I was waiting for someone to point this out. I probably didn't state what I meant very well. Better stated, there is a reasonably large component of auto customers that looks to purchase a new vehicle every 2-3 years. For that component, leasing is a reasonable solution because they aren't going to hold onto a car they purchased long-enough to realize the benefits of purchasing v. leasing.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 1, 2013 -> 10:44 AM) I'll look at it. Need something big but still like advanced functions like local dimming. I have a similar model but in the 240 hz...very pleased with it overall, although I am not one of those people that really digs in to the advanced settings all that much or anything.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 06:25 AM) Frankly, you have to worry about championship week. Those guys can play till the half and the Broncos will be up 2-3 TDs Yeah, that was always the concern with the old Colts teams Manning was on as well. One of the reasons I don't play much fantasy football anymore, to be honest...too much lame variability. -

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 06:21 AM) It doesn't require it, but if someone would flip you a Julio Jones or Victor Cruz for one of those receivers I'd be listening. Yeah, but I doubt they are offering those players for Welker or Decker...perhaps Thomas. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 06:16 AM) How long did you have the cars? I generally look at having a car for 5 years or so, on average. Right, but most people don't. It seems like most people are at 3 years or so...and Rock is right, I don't think they ding you too badly on returning the car unless you exceed the mileage. Especially if you're considering re-leasing from them.

In our Soxtalk league I've got Demaryius Thomas and Welker AND Manning, and despite the loss that will be taken on Denver's bye week (I think week 6), I don't know that Denver doesn't score enough points to require diversifying, to be honest. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 06:10 AM) Here's a good guideline... when anyone says something along the lines of "ALL (insert any profession here) are (insert demeaning descriptor here)", you can automatically dismiss anything else they type after that. Clearly they are not functioning within the bounds of reality. Well additionally, it's one thing to say something of that nature generally and it's another to say it when some members of your audience are personally, dramatically, and immediately affected by the issue at hand. One would think Duke was some private sector whiz kid banking hundreds of thousands a year the way he walks around here like his s*** doesn't stink. I normally don't get riled by his attention-seeking diatribes, but that was incredibly insulting and insensitive last night.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Oct 1, 2013 -> 07:06 PM) This going to be blunt and you probably aren't going to like it. I dont care about what happens to government workers because of this. I've never had a positive experience with a civilian government employee. They are all totally and utterly worthless, both in the work they're expected to do but also in the small fraction of that expectation that they actually accomplish. Usually this doesn't bother me, I'm not a big stickler for service. I stay polite, finish my business and vow never to return. But I have no choice but to pay for the salaries of government employees. I'm forced to chip into your wages at the barrell of a gun. So yea, f*** you too. You and your incompetent nepotist pals got unceremoniously fired just like so many of the rest of us have. Sucks doesn't it? But you've all been getting fat raises and nice union settlements on the back of our money for so long you should have something in the tank. Working for the government is an oxymoron. It is more like welfare. Taxpayer money goes in, a bunch of nothing happens, and a few million people get paychecks. I hate it, anything that dents it makes me f***ing jubiliant. The great part about this is this shutdown is pretty much permanent as long as long the Republicans control something. We've gone down the rabbit hole, the threshold has been crossed and lines in the sand drawn. There will be no compromising, slowly (like what happened with the military) some things will come back, but for many programs and employees this is the end. We haven't killed the monster yet, but almost accidentally the heroic House Republicans in an attempt to be the worst politicians ever inadvertently did this country a lot of good. And yet you're wasting all your brilliance behind the wheel of a truck...such a shame

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 1, 2013 -> 11:45 AM) When you get 20 to 30 feet of snow each winter in that area the roads become destroyed in no time. It takes one winter for an area like that that to be completely inaccessible so good luck trying to access places that are completely ignored and not kept up. Yeah, it's like that Life After People show on the History Channel a few years ago

QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 1, 2013 -> 10:00 AM) the whole "protein shake after a workout" thing is the most useless and wide-spread fad in fitness You think? I dunno...I see noticeable differences when drinking them versus not drinking them, when on my workout program. Now I am not certain as to whether the exact timing is that important, but I do definitely add a little bulk easier when I drink them. As for the timing, I thought drinking them within an hour or so after a workout was the best time because the body can utilize it better that way because of like, science and stuff...

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 12:52 PM) Who wants in on the best NBA fantasy league ever? It's a keeper, I need two owners. I'd be even worse at basketball than I am at football. -
I'm just thankful it's over.
