QUOTE (greg775 @ May 24, 2012 -> 10:27 PM) Nice win. We know one thing. Twins are the worst team in the AL this year. Royals have a much better team than Minnie. Minny's actually been hitting the s*** out of the ball since Morneau's come back

QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ May 24, 2012 -> 10:24 PM) Is that the Sox first series win at home since the first Detroit series? Yep

Alex with a double and a homer tonight?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 23, 2012 -> 10:34 PM) Greg, remember this game from 2010? Just realize that Jenks only got the loss in that game. (what's totally awesome is that there are going to be several people who know, without clicking the link, the exact game I'm talking about, because it was by far the worst baseball experience of my entire life) Thanks for ruining my day, Wite.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 24, 2012 -> 05:15 PM) I'm just saying it's crazy and petty that sox fans on a Sox message board are blasting Hawk Harrelson. The guy may be the face of our franchise now that he is gone. This would be like blasting Paulie. It makes no sense and just seems anti-Chicago. The greatest city in the world and yet Sox fans (some of them) are blasting this legend in this thread. Weird. I just figure out of respect it should be in the filibuster area. Also, Hawk isn't leaving anytime soon, God willing health wise, and it seems dumb to arbitrarily blast him all season long (from now on if this threat lives). What is this, Russia, Danny? This isn't Russia, is it?

Liriano's career isn't over...he tends to fall in and out of dominance and horrendousness...I wouldn't be shocked if he had several more good runs in him...

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 24, 2012 -> 07:38 AM) My first job out of college was working stock at the Polo Outlet store. Immediately following that was keyholder for Finish Line and Assistant Manager for 9 West. Yeah, many times your first jobs are just meaningless stepping stones on the way to somewhere else. It took me 2.5 years to get into something I really wanted to do, and the economy wasn't nearly as bad. While I was in school I wandered into an Abercrombie & Fitch one day and they asked me to work there...there were all these girls working there at the time, so of course I said yes...I ended up working there for 4 years in various management roles until I realized I didn't want to move to Columbus, OH (Home Office), and so I decided finish up undergrad and attend law school. That all being fine and dandy, while I was there I had some of the best years of my life and met some of my best friends to this day. I still talk to 5-10 people from there at least on a monthly basis, and these are people I met almost 15 years ago. The key is to just get out there and do something...and make connections and get exposure to as many different people as possible. And if it's not exactly what you want to be doing, make it fun...you're young, you most likely don't have many responsibilities yet...enjoy life.

Finally finished In the Garden of Beasts tonight while watching the fairly boring Sox game...great read...I absolutely love Larson's writing style. Looking forward to his next work.

I'd like to apologize to Sox fans everywhere for cooling off Dayan...I put him into my fantasy lineup finally on Sunday.

I don't think this is safe! Why is it wet?

Does anyone actually like the AT&T U-Verse Multiview?

QUOTE (Jake @ May 23, 2012 -> 07:48 PM) I haven't heard Hawk criticize an ump more than momentarily all year. I wouldnt be shocked if he was talked to by someone in the League offices
-
Good to know Hawk approves of this umpiring crew.

QUOTE (Jake @ May 23, 2012 -> 05:01 PM) DV has a little more to prove, for sure. There's some chance that he's on a Josh Fields type of run. Luckily, he's more talented than Josh Fields and had a reputation/history of hitting fastballs (what I think is holding him back) in the minors. Younger than the Josh Fields we once used up too. I was looking at old MLB drafts and came across Honel, he was the first prospect name I ever remember hearing. Shame how that never worked out for him. Providence Catholic kid...from all accounts was a big jerk.

QUOTE (Jake @ May 23, 2012 -> 04:23 PM) I miss Kris Honel. In other news, I like the look of this lineup. It really has the talent of a playoff team. If we assume that Beckham and Viciedo have turned it around for good, you're just waiting on the veteran bats of Alexei and O-Dog to turn it on. ^^ could be a big if, I suppose. I'm not sold on Viciedo... Where did the Honel comment come from?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 23, 2012 -> 04:03 PM) How is that state derived? I'm skeptical that it may be "number of DUI's/US adult population" which would overstate how many people have DUI's. I believe that the "50% of marriages end in divorce" is similar in that there's a lot of people with 2+ divorces so it is a little misleading. Very well could be...even if it is overstated, do you really challenge the crux of the argument? The number, whether it is 30% or 10%, is still astonishingly high.

These were the chicks Rock was hanging with, not the police
-
I guess one of my main points is that there are hundreds of thousands of people driving while intoxicated every night in this country. An alarmingly large percentage of US drivers has received at least one DUI. Compare that to other misdemeanor or felony crimes. Debate all you want in regards to the malicious intent or the stupidity or whatever, but the sheer number of people doing this on a nightly basis tells me that there is an alcohol problem that cannot currently be handled by our current infrastructure. I'm just trying to think of ways for our infrastructure to handle that differently, because I don't think the prominent role of alcohol in our culture is changing any time soon.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 23, 2012 -> 01:38 PM) Molina hasn't been incredible at AA and every player in MLB is constantly defined by what they did last time out. It's the normal game thread ethos. That's why, within a week, Zach Stewart has been an ace, a bum who should be released, and a guy who should get Floyd's spot in the starting rotation because Floyd's a bum. Some people have been consistently saying one thing the entire year though...just because there is no consensus (and there rarely is one when you have this many commentators involved), doesn't mean there everyone's been flip-flopping.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 23, 2012 -> 01:38 PM) It's illegal in Illinois I'm pretty sure. And this explains my exodus to Vegas, where every hour is happy
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 23, 2012 -> 01:30 PM) Which is why this would be something entirely reasonable for a government entity to do if it is in a city of moderate size with limited, focused areas containing restaurants. If you reallocated the costs that drunk driving supposedly causes on an annual basis, my guess is some programs could be put into place.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 23, 2012 -> 01:26 PM) There's zero incentive for a bar to front that cost. They have no liability whatsoever to a drunk driver unless the person is overserved. That sort of program would probably just open them up to more liability. If all their patrons end up with DUIs, they will have some incentive Honestly, I don't care about the current setup...I'm trying to come up with solutions that actually might work.
