  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 07:32 AM) If the Sox could save $5 million on moving him, that's $5 million more that could be put towards payroll in a year that we're not playing 3 sub-.200 , 26 or younger hitters in April. Even better if we could get someone to throw in a talented A-baller while we're at it. But...Saving $5 million would require the Sox still eating $7 million or so...and I just don't know they'd be willing to do that even if it's the right move. If he continues to pitch like his 2007 self...come July, we won't have to eat any salary. We'll trade him to the Dodgers and possibly even get a couple live, breathing baseball players for him.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 08:40 AM) Yeah, Fielder's hitting .300+, but the power isn't there currently, sporting a low-800's OPS, in addition to the expected below average defense, which isn't what they paid $214 million for. It's 20 games...it's April...and Fielder is VERY streaky in terms of hitting home runs...I know you never want to admit you're wrong, but are you really going to argue with me that a guy hitting .309 is off to a bad start?
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 07:30 AM) Serious question...is there a big Free Agent signing from last offseason who is off to a good start anywhere in MLB? I've got Darvish coming to mind, but that's about it. Pujols, Fielder, Reyes, none of them are off to good starts. Well the power hasn't exactly been there, but Fielder is still getting on at a .380 clip...I wouldn't say that he's off to a rough start or anything... CJ Wilson has been very solid as well.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 06:50 AM) So far, the one thing we can say about this team is they appear to be incredibly streaky. I disagree...I think it's more like when we score runs we win, when we don't, we lose.
  5. Would he have followed Martin if he had not have been carrying?
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 29, 2012 -> 03:17 PM) Well, that's a very pathetic way to go down in a blaze of glory on Twitter. He deleted his twitter account?
  7. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 29, 2012 -> 03:10 PM) going to be interesting if Santiago goes in the 9th Im dreading it, because their lefties are their best hitters
  8. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 29, 2012 -> 02:52 PM) putting way too much pressure on the pitching staff. Beckett certainly looks better than he did in the 1st, but c'mon. He's a shadow of his former self, guy doesn't throw over 92 any more. I think that's going to have to be something they get accustomed to...
  9. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Apr 29, 2012 -> 11:00 AM) I have more confidence in Morel turning it around than Beckham. Not saying Morel will, but just that he's more likely than Beckham. While Morel can really suck, he doesn't have as many bad habits to unwind as Gordon...
  10. Alex! Nice to see him making adjustments...
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 29, 2012 -> 10:57 AM) Baron Davis tore his ACL in college yet still recovered enough to become the 3rd overall pick in the draft and have an nice 13 year career. DRose wasn't 100% all season and many who now think if he comes back at anything less will make the Bulls non contenders for a title weren't feeling that way 24 hours ago when he couldn't have been more than 80-85%. In Davis's two years at UCLA, he averaged 13.6 points and 5.1 assists for the Bruins. While coming down from a dunk during an NCAA Tournament game his freshman year, he injured his knee and tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Surprisingly, though, he made a full recovery the next season and seemed to have regained nearly all of the speed, quickness, and explosiveness he had before the injury while doing enough on the basketball court to warrant his declaring for the 1999 NBA Draft after his sophomore campaign.[3] Makes you wonder where he was showing off the speed, quickness, and explosiveness at...
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 29, 2012 -> 10:33 AM) Yay Lillibridge in the lineup against a RHP I think the last time we complained about this he drew a walk his first PA and then got a hit the second PA...
  13. QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 28, 2012 -> 10:38 PM) and any other sport - you're able to be so much more explosive and agile after completing P90X - and X2 even more so since it focuses so much on your core. One downside is I think the increased strength in my shoulders has made a basketball feel lighter now...so I haven't been able to get the correct depth on my shots...I think I probably finally am actually shooting with the correct form now...
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 28, 2012 -> 10:01 PM) From the guy who is giving up on Viciedo. Priceless. So when did you meet Gordon?
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 28, 2012 -> 08:43 PM) You're ridiculous. Read my posts. We're 20 games into the season! Seriously, you are incapable of having objective opinions due to some perverse love affairs up you have with random people you meet.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 28, 2012 -> 08:25 PM) Why would you say that? All I said is what the majority of Soxtalk has said for years. If guys aren't hitting its the hitting coach's fault. Its time to make a change. As far as Cooper/Humber, if you're going to give Coop the credit for the perfect game, don't you have to blame him for the implosion his next outing? Is that really all you have to do on a Saturday night? Gloat about f***ing Greg Walker? You are ridiculous.
  17. QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ Apr 28, 2012 -> 08:20 PM) Sometimes during games, in big situations, I cover my eyes and just listen to what is about to happen because I'm nervous about the next pitch or play. If I were a Red Sox fan there, I wouldn't have been nervous at all. Would have watched the whole AB and had ZERO worry that GB was gonna get a hit there. I don't care how many harmless foul balls he hit. Yeah, he never looked like he could hit a ball hard at any time in that entire PA
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 28, 2012 -> 06:04 PM) Is Rose still your #1+ keeper next year? I know, I know. That's cold of me. But I have no heart. I'm going to bet the s*** out of the Bulls against the Celtics...Its not the colossal loss that most fans think...obviously they're better off with him, I just don't think they're nearly as bad off w/o him as the betting public will think...
  19. So have been playing basketball with the guys from work the last couple Saturdays. One thing I can tell I have gotten better at is my footwork...a lot quicker with the feet. You really see substantial gains from both P90's in hoops.
  20. QUOTE (farmteam @ Apr 27, 2012 -> 09:32 PM) I was agreeing with you, and this was what I was trying to say...but you said it better. Yeah, I know...it's just a pet peeve of mine...I was just using your post to point it out again
  21. QUOTE (farmteam @ Apr 27, 2012 -> 08:54 PM) This. These scouts/GMs get paid to do this for a living; sure, that doesn't mean they can't be bad, but it means I'll give them a chance to prove they know what they're doing. No, it doesn't mean they can't be bad. But it means they spend thousands of hours watching film on these players while we spend zero. It would be like you criticizing at attorney accustomed to arguing cases in front of the Supreme Court for his legal arguments. Yes, that doesn't mean he doesn't make errors, or that he is always perfect, but 99 times out of 100 he'll have a better idea of what he's doing than you.
  22. Gruden cracks me up.... "Stand next to him...you'll like his size, Mel Kiper!"
  23. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 27, 2012 -> 08:38 PM) Stop saying this... this is a Class 1 meatball statement Three f***ing picks into his career, none of which you've actually seen do anything in the NFL at all, and you're ready to bury him next to the grave of the last failure of a GM. The critiquing of the NFL draft by fans that have never even watched tape on these guys always makes me chuckle....
