Q traded to Cubs/Jimenez, Cease ++ to Sox
iamshack replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 09:51 AM) I can't get over one thing, and it's kind of bitter sweet fortune but it is fortune: There are a bunch of teams on the precipice of tear down rebuilds in Blue Jays/Giants/Tigers/Pirates and Royals. Not this year but next 2 years. We obviously had some special, signed pieces BUT We were offloading with the best pieces at a time when we were the ONLY team doing it, and during a time where the top contenders also had the top farms (due to their rebuild). Those contenders have basically exhausted their top guys, all to the white sox. The tigers/etc are going to have to offload with the next group of rising teams which happen to be much more mid-market. They may be more like Pirates, who will be stuck in needing to consistently fill their MLB team with cheap talent, and can't rely on big budgets for their holes. We struck at a really, really good time. Let's hope it panned out! Great post! -

QUOTE (StrykerSox @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 09:26 AM) FWIW, Cubs Reddit loves this. They say they got what they need and they're probably right. One guy was elated that they didn't need to use Schwarber, Happ or Baez. I would have been disappointed to see either of the top two switched out for any of those three. It was a trade that has made the most sense for both teams for 7+ months now. I am just thankful these two GMs were not afraid to make it. -

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 09:00 AM) I still hope he does well for the Cubs, I just can't root against Q. Q is the perfect guy to go to be the guy that goes from one side of town to the other in a big trade. Consumate, quiet professional who never gets any decisions -
QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 08:47 AM) Nats have had forever to complete a Robertson trade so I don't think it is going to happen. I think they will get someone cheap. I would make a final call and here is my ask and reasoning. Robertson has increased his value by his performance vs this winter and his money owed is less. One player mentioned before is in AA and struggling and we drafted a 3b in the first round so I am taking him out. We liked Luzardo before and he is pitching now so he stays. So....... Robertson for Luzardo LHP, and either 50 value cf Robertson at AAA if we pay half Robertson's 2018 salary or 45 value cf Perkins 20 yr old who is toolsy but at A ball and is putting together an interesting year for little/less money. Hopefully the reason this Q trade was completed today was so that we can turn our focus to this transaction, or perhaps one which includes our relievers to another ballclub.

QUOTE (FT35 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 08:27 AM) So few things generate excitement anymore--Lord knows our team's play doesn't...but in the meantime, we're like dogs being tossed something to chew on. Sure, in the end it's just a bone...but it's fun to chew on. Umm, no it wasn't!! -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 08:20 AM) No surprise you didn't find my response when the trade was made admitting I had been wrong. It's great that you admitted you were wrong. I guess the point is that sometimes things happen which you least expected. Is it usually a huge waste of our time? Yep. But that's half the fun! Not knowing what could possibly be happening. Otherwise, I wouldn't come to this subforum and I'd just wait, like some of my very serious Sox fan friends do, for the deals to be announced, so as not to waste their own time.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 08:03 AM) I can't believe anyone bought into it either. A oft injured A ball pitcher who is on the brink of a promotion and on an innings count, gets pulled from a start with stormy weather, add that to a top prospect who has been inactive, not being in the line up, add that to a supposed Ken Rosenthal tweet, yanked so fast no one has a screen shot, about a possible unusual trade. Ignore Rosenthal's facebook page post about a crazy potential trade between Miami and Philadelphia , clearly it's Quintana to the Cubs. Sometimes things happen... Didn't you tell ust there was NO WAY the Red Sox would trade us Moncada, since they had invested so much money into him?

QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 06:51 AM) I was talking about adding Carson Fulmer into any of these packages with a possible Cub trade... Gotcha. I figured that might be the case, but seemed coincidental. My bad.
-
QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 06:43 AM) Hear ya. Does Fulmer have much value to add to any of these packages?... He meant Michael Fulmer, of the Tigers. They got him back from the Mets in exchange for Yoenis Cespedes a few years ago at the deadline.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 06:14 PM) He might, I could also see him being a guy that plays 5 minutes a game because his team is playing 4 on 5 on offense with him out there. Like I said, not defending the trade at all as it was completely moronic and even more annoying but I'm not going to freak out about Bell just yet. If you don't freak out from the very beginning, you aren't allowed to freak out at all. -
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 06:12 AM) I posted it yesterday and I still think it would be true Schwarber or Happ, Eloy and Cease will be the cub haul. I think Schwarber is in the deal for no other than reason than to add a name. If he fails in the next year or two years no problem. Theo needs to make a move and they have zero need for Schwarber. Cease and Eloy are the names the Sox need. I think Schwarbs is really underestimated here. I would suspect the Cubs would be able to do better, if they really wanted to move him, to trade he and Eloy separately. To get them both in a deal for just Q would a return that is better than the return we received for Sale or Eaton, IMO.

QUOTE (OklahomaBrave @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 09:10 PM) Other than the generational talent etc. etc. comments I think the main hold up on trading him is because he isn't able to be valued properly. A guy with a lot of hype, warranted or not, can't be the BIG centerpiece. We'd have to trade him as a 2nd/3rd piece when he could be a year and a half away from being the majority of a deal. So while I think they do love him, it's equally about recognizing its irresponsible to trade an asset before it reaches maturation. From the Sox perspective, no matter how much talent Maitan has, it would be equally irresponsible to accept such an unknown quantity as a headliner. I'm sure they'd love him as a second piece, but Braves wouldn't consider that. Agree with others, this is a great post. That being said, if it were me personally, I would take the risk on Maitan, IF the second/third pieces were solid AND the alternative was a package from another team that included an arm as the headliner or a bat that I didn't necessarily love. I think it is fair to assume, although this could be off, that no suitor has really emerged that is offering a bat-headlining package that the Sox really like.

QUOTE (Quin @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 10:18 PM) Supposedly Q to Cubs for four prospects. The tweet said something to the effect of "an unexpected trade is looming."
-
QUOTE (Enscheff @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 09:07 PM) I'm a little shocked there are actually folks who would be unhappy with getting Eloy for Q. He's exactly the type of return Hahn has been holding out for the entire time. As a Braves fan I hope this is true, and it keeps the Braves from buying a pitcher like Q a year before they are truly in a position to do so. Pretty tough to complain about getting EJ IMO, unless it's EJ and absolutely nothing else of value.

QUOTE (OklahomaBrave @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 09:03 PM) If it is the Cubs, hope for Victor Carantini as a 3rd/4th piece. Recent helium and is blocked. As a C?
