  1. Soo... Has a starter been announced for Friday yet?
  2. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 08:15 AM) There is smoke from our local guys, but outside of Passan saying "maybe" there is not much to go off of. I'm with you Dick, I'll buy in much more once national guys tweet about it. Just to be clear, once the national guys tweet about it, the deal is basically done (in our experience with this FO). ' You guys may as well basically ignore the twitterverse.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 07:03 AM) True. My take below! The previous hot moments were signals of other teams pursuing Q. This info has been a signal of sox prepping to trade Q. Subtle difference, but it appears Sox feel offers are getting close and want to move him, no longer holding back as leverage. I'm not sure what you guys want...this is about as solid as it gets until its already done.
  4. QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 06:57 AM) The only thing that has me a bit hesitant is that trade rumors/talks have been pretty hot like this before where you thought it would be any moment only to fall apart. I get the sense they have progressed a little further than those previous talks did but you never know. Sure. The comment about guessing he has pitched his last game makes me think they know something though. Ultimately, you never know until, well, you know.
  5. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 06:49 AM) After so many months of Quintana being on the market, I would imagine a deal could come together very quickly at this point. Once the Sox receive an acceptable offer, they will courtesy contact each suitor and inform them an acceptable offer has been made and that it is time to get in your final offers. Not sure what stage we are at right now though? Is this just more interest, or is a deal close? Between Rabbit, WSD, McGuffey, put me down for us being at that stage where we have requested final offers. You are never going to have more smoke at that stage than we have now.
  6. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 06:43 AM) He did in the podcast, but he did not say whether a deal was happening now now, or just by the deadline. Once Rosenthal jumps in you know that something is going down soon. Yeah, by then the deal is basically done. The crazy part about what started yesterday is you never know whether that can lead to the Rosenthal tweet or nothing. Nothing is confirmed until it's confirmed.
  7. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 06:38 AM) So are we thinking a deal gets announced today/tomorrow? So much smoke, but nothing confirmed. I tend to believe the stove is hot when the national guys like Passan/Rosenthal start tweeting about it. They are very well connected across the league. Passan did last night.
  8. QUOTE (Quin @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 06:36 AM) Anyone else hoping Rick had put in the last call to teams? I think it's a wise plan. I know I have been somewhat worried it would drag out the whole month and we wouldn't end up moving all our pieces.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 06:26 AM) Chris Dubon? Duke? Boooooooooo
  10. QUOTE (Quin @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 06:24 AM) The Flying Serpent shall soon have his fill on beer. The blood of his penis!
  11. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 06:01 AM) I'm sorry, but overreacting to 35 plate appearances is f***ing stupid. Most young guys struggle when they come and to expect instant results is ridiculous. And the 23 years old stuff is utter nonsense. You'd rather have Ozzies Albies and his very limited power potential over Bronson simply because of age? Bronson's ceiling is significantly higher and for a team not planning on being competitive over the next two seasons we should no doubt gamble on Bronson's upside rather than Ozzie's floor if we have the choice. And I say this as someone who likes Albies. Brinson got some pretty sporadic PAs as well. For whatever reason, they brought him up when Villar went on the DL but then didn't commit to playing him regularly. Instead, he got a lot of pinch hitting opportunities. I believe he also was injured after being HBP.
  12. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 05:27 AM) Let's get this back on track. If the Brewers are the favorite, then a deal has to be built around Brinson. Add in one of their well regarded arms (Hader, Woodruff, Ortiz) and another interesting positional prospect (Diaz, Clark, Erceg) and I think you have a deal that works. To me, the dream return would be Brinson, Hader, & Diaz. That addresses multiple organizational needs while providing us with two major league ready prospects. I was looking at the same thing yesterday night...heck, I would probably even take Dubon if I could get Brinson and Hader. We could really use a LHP coming back.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 08:20 PM) Just have to hope our scouts pick right package You mean Kenny
  14. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 05:45 PM) Seems like a very concerted effort by the Sox to drive up the price. And the others to keep the price down?
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 05:23 PM) Brinson, Hader, Phillips That sounds like a very realistic ask for us.
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 05:13 PM) But nothing is confirmed This is confirmed.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 04:57 PM) So if it's Brewers, package ideas? -Brinson seems like a must - Gatewood - Woodruff How much do you like Brinson? I don't love him. Is Brinson AND Hader too much?
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 04:57 PM) So if it's Brewers, package ideas? -Brinson seems like a must - Gatewood - Woodruff That seems a bit sparse to me...
  19. QUOTE (Butter Parque @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 04:38 PM) I don't see the true fit. Sadly, I feel the Yankees make the most sense, but I don't think Cashman will do it. Outside of that, I'd prefer Atlanta or the Dodgers. Until Saturday night when Q struck out 10 of them
  20. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 04:35 PM) 2 days ago haha Well, uh...I'm old!
  21. I'm pretty sure that this was in future sox already but pretty cool that Kopech squared off against Moncada in the futures game earlier.
  22. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 04:16 PM) Would have to imagine the Sox are would insist on Rodgers be including in any potential quintana deal. Brinson for the Brewers and Acuna/Albie's/maitan for the braves This is what concerns me about what Rabbit and others have said regarding us being disappointed... I suspect if Rodgers or some of these other headliners were involved, people would not necessarily be hugely disappointed. It makes me think we'll get more of a depth package.
  23. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 04:04 PM) https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/ju...isoner-by-japan The image was part of a Japanese-language travelogue about the South Seas that was published almost two years before Earhart disappeared. Page 113 states the book was published in Japanese-held Palau on 10 October 1935. Ugh
  24. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 07:50 AM) But this relies on basically creating a facade of being irrational. I actually agree with FT on this one. Nothing wrong with burning a guy to show negotiating strength. This is no different than eating salary to improve your return. This is just using that concept across more than one transaction - basically eating salary today to improve a return in a different transaction later. I absolutely expect we will end up with some of these guys after the non-waiver deadline and even after the waiver deadline, simply because we didn't want to give a guy away for nothing.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2017 -> 08:27 AM) http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/national-in...-432628683.html The Six minute video is worth a watch. I have the History Channel special set to record on my DVR already. How was the special? Forgot about it...
