The Braves are so intriguing since the deadline timeline doesn't necessarily apply to them...one would think they would be making a push now, as opposed to in a few weeks like many of the other teams.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 12:31 PM) Phil Rogers on MLBN today said 8-10 teams are in on him, and the Braves in particular are very interested. I know PR gets a lot of crap around here...and rightfully so. Does the guy have real sources anymore? Does he know anything more than Bruce?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 08:14 AM) A clear step short of how much is in this post though. Yeah, perhaps, but someone has to call out this behavior. It's not fair to mock the genuinely good conversation which, I can tell you, we darn well are going to need over the next few years around here to keep from killing ourselves.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 06:44 AM) While I agree that we should target younger players, the price on Frazier likely won't be high. Not a lot of teams need a 3B and there are alternative options (Lowrie, Neil Walker could move back to 3B, Kendrick, Nunez, Cozart, Solarte, Freese). It would also be pointless to keep him. It is basically a salary dump.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 06:33 AM) In the grand scheme of things, $25 million over 6 seasons is not that much of a gamble on a player who has considerable upside. If he becomes a halfway decent starting mlb SS he's easily worth that money It also may come with an opportunity cost...let's say the Braves made Albies available but we felt the need to stick with TA because of the extension...which, whether it is Albies or some other guy, to me seems like a plausible scenario. I hope the guy bounces back...the last couple of games he at least has had some good PAs.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 08:40 PM) Wow is Montero a horrible teammate Do tell...

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 07:40 PM) We are all outsider fans (for the most part) here. None of us really know what will happen. Until a trade happens it's impossible to say whether we will be happy or not Yeah, I know...this is just fun for fans to pass the time while we cheer for a rotten team. No need to constantly piss on all of us and then not offer your own thoughts. Sorry, just a pet peeve of mine.

I hope Q told West to eat a big s***burger

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 06:15 PM) Yep, lol. Jesus, this is such bulls***. Do you recognize how condescending and just f***ing rude it comes off when you guys post this? Put your almighty wisdom on the line and tell us what we should expect then.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 06:16 PM) I like a lot of players. My favorite proposal was Yankees with Frazier Adams and Florial. I really like Braves system including Albies. He's a player ruined by comp bias, and anytime I see a player with reviews about baseball IQ and acumen I just think they end up as those undervalued cogs on teams like the Giants that just win. If we go Cubs, I think if we get Jimenez it's backed out by players like Albertos Ademan and Wilson, further from majors and easier to sell out on. Pick 2. Well, you're talking a top 20 in all of baseball type, another guy that is probably a top 75 or so, and another guy in Florial that has really progressed recently. I don't know that you are that far off some of the cool-aid type packages that are being bandied about in this thread.

QUOTE (reiks12 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 06:21 PM) QUintana was chirping there, what was that about Think he is pissed about being squeezed

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 05:36 PM) In no way referring to you. Outside of you disliking Calhoun, we are on same page. Hey, if you say we need Calhoun, I am on board! And I am just as guilty as anyone in overvaluing Q as anyone...I just want to hear what you guys think is more reasonable.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 05:17 PM) Very nervous for this game Why? You seem to think the return for Q will be s*** anyways.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 04:59 PM) Agreed some of these proposals are ludicrous. Why don't you and BMags, the sages that you are, propose something that is more reasonable, so the rest of us can be enlightened.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 03:13 PM) They can with surgery. One guy who came back from it is that real good shortstop who played for Braves and Dodgers ( can't place his name). Todd Helton came back and played a few more years. Both had their back problems in 2009. Furcal?

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 02:30 PM) I'm not writing them off completely, but Glasnow, Meadows, Newman's stock are all undoubtedly down right now, somewhat big time. I've never loved Newman, but I would still be interested in Glasnow/Meadows/Keller. This is why I sort of chuckle at those who say you have to trade a guy at the deadline or the offseason, or whatever. I mean, if we are to get this up or down on any of these kids, the volatility of the currency you are getting in return outweighs the timing of trading your MLB asset such as to make it almost meaningless.
-
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 02:23 PM) Perhaps Pirates farm system has largely taken a dump this season. Newman sporting a .628 OPS and Meadows (injured) with a .671 is pretty weak. Keller has been good, but has also dealt with injury issues. I'm glad we never got a Q to the Pirates deal done, I think we would have ended up regretting it. You obviously know your farm systems better than me, but do you think maybe you are writing off some of these guys a bit hastily?

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 02:08 PM) I drool over the superstar potential of Maitan as well, but if we are looking at a deadline deal for Q it will be to a contender. Despite being across town, Quintana to the Cubs makes alot of sense. Arrieta is likely gone after this season, and Lackey is looking washed up. Would a Jimenez/Cease/Candelario deal end up benefiting both sides? Cubs window is the next 2-3 seasons before players start hitting expensive arbitration years and Lester really ages. Quintana gives them a cost controlled starter, keeping money free to pursue a high priced free agent starter. Cubs do not have any minor league starters that are close to the major league level right now. I don't think this ends up happening, but in a vacuum it makes sense for each side. Yeah, there is no doubt this makes sense for the Cubs. But you think you are basically going to get those three guys but not that package I mentioned earlier from the Braves? I also dispute that Q will necessarily go to a contender. I think he likely will, but as I posted a few weeks ago, his contract and general makeup make him attractive for a team like the Braves or the Pirates in my estimation as well.
-
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 01:51 PM) The Braves farm is so deep that I think they could come up with many compelling offers if they really wanted to get something done. You may very well be right...I suppose I just have my own preference of a position player headlining the deal, which keeps bringing me to Maitan.
-
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 01:43 PM) I'd like Maitan, but not as the center piece. Way too young and inexperienced to be the center piece in a Q deal. If you want to make a deal with the Braves, I just think he makes the most sense. It may turn out that there are other packages from other teams that make more sense.
-
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 01:40 PM) Can always convert middle infielders into outfielders since they are athletic enough. And are we all convinced that Moncada will lock down 2B with his defense? Or will he be one of those guys who breaks in as a MI but ends up in the OF? I want Moncada in CF, but MI's without power don't really play well at other positions unless they are in center. His arm would play, but his place really needs to be up the middle. I'd prefer Maitan because he's a guy that is a few years away and can potentially play SS if TA doesn't pan out, or else potentially move to 3b.
-
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 01:36 PM) I would be looking at acquiring the best players available, almost regardless of position at this point in the rebuild. I doubt Atlanta would even want to part with Albies. Outside of power, there is not much to not like about him, and he can play multiple positions. Yeah, I mean I generally agree with you, but the middle of the infield is the one spot where we really don't have a need. Agreed about them not wanting to move him anyways.
-
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 01:26 PM) Albies projects to be a far better player than Sanchez. 60/65 hit tool, 40/45 power, 65/70 speed, 55/60 field, 55/60 arm = a very good player with major upside A .759 OPS at age 20 in AAA is very impressive and Albies has the tools to be part of a championship roster as a great #1 or #2 hitter His arm does nothing for you at 2b. His speed and ability to get on base are going to be your largest areas of improvement over Sanchez, and while those may even be fairly significant, is that really the best use of your assets? Particularly when you consider Moncada? Not saying the dude won't be a very good player, but unfortunately he just isn't a great fit for us.
-
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 01:22 PM) Way too much risk for the White Sox in a Maitan/Pache/Jackson package in my opinion. Maitan is 17 and has yet to have a professional at bat, and Pache has just recently started to break out. Sox will be looking for more established prospects most likely. I just don't see the Braves having deadline interest, but they could emerge if Quintana is still on the market in the offseason.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 01:15 PM) If he is the main piece of Q trade, Q isn't going to the Braves. Agreed. I'm hoping he's suggesting something like Maitan/Pache/Jackson is fair?
