  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 28, 2011 -> 07:18 PM) I don't buy that it even could work. you have a very short field, and you have a play that takes a long time to develop, and will still begin in the backfield. As soon as it begins the safeties and LBs at least know they don't have to stay back. It was 2nd and 1, our starting QB is out, this is when you say "hey, we have 2 really good RBs and a time out, lets get the first" It's worked before...honestly, we've probably run it a few too many times now and that's why the Raiders saw it coming. Should have handed the ball to Barber, absolutely...but I am sure that's what Martz was expecting their defense to be looking for...a run to get the first down.

QUOTE (farmteam @ Nov 28, 2011 -> 03:47 PM) We hear this all the time, but I always wonder, what constitutes stuff that would turn recruiters off? Like, yeah, you probably shouldn't be taking bong hits in a picture, but besides the obviously egregious stuff, what's troublesome? I would think swearing often, or just being generally obnoxious in your posts. Think about it this way...when you're hiring someone, the only things you have to look at are 1) resume, which is most likely embellished and really doesn't give them the full picture in re: your accomplishments, and 2) the bulls*** you spew in the interview, which has become such a scripted event these days that I wouldn't be surprised if some companies start some other method of getting to know their potential employees. But Facebook, or Twitter, or any of these other social media sites gives them a look into who you really are...which they probably feel is a much more accurate one. So, probably not a great idea to have videos posted of you drunkenly running around shirtless and swearing at your cousins, or obnoxiously spewing obscenities about the police pepper spraying the Occupy people, or posting drunken rants about how great the new bar in town is, etc. Just use common sense.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 28, 2011 -> 05:13 PM) Its just Martz in the red zone, period. He just out thinks himself. We just have Cutler who can play over Martz making bad calls It was clearly a bad call with Hanie at qb...he's not accustomed to making reads on screen plays. If you noticed late in the game, right before that long td to Knox, he threw another screen to Forte where Matt got blasted about 1/4 of a second after Hanie threw it to him (and he threw it at him quite hard, I might add...it was a heck of a play for Matt just to catch the ball, let alone hang on to it). It's actually a very nice little play and one I was quite surprised the Raiders were ready for, especially with Hanie in there. But I agree, should have handed it off to Barber once or twice there, instead of trying to get all fancy.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 28, 2011 -> 12:27 PM) Now wait, we actually had in the Penn State case both testimony about the coach's failure to act and a public admission from the Coach that he should have done more. "Rumors and Hearsay" is not an accurate description here. I've got an inkling that Mr. Boeheim knew a little more than he is letting on.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 27, 2011 -> 11:32 AM) Had a 3 day management training course this past week at work. They brought in a lawyer to discuss various legal issues and according to her a majority of recruiters, internal and external, scrub candidate's names online (i.e., facebook, twitter, etc). I know we talked about this topic a while back but I still stick to my guns and say keep your profiles private. Better be safe than sorry. How are you liking it so far, Sqwerty?
  7. QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 27, 2011 -> 07:56 PM) The problem is that people are giving Tebow all the credit. No, they're not. Anyone who knows more than a little about football is acknowledging that the turnaround is due to their defense. That being said, there is something to not turning the ball over...and controlling the clock...and being able to make one or two big plays when they are most needed, that has made this defense have confidence in Tebow.
  8. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Nov 27, 2011 -> 07:48 PM) That's a play you do at the end of the first half or with 1 minute left, not with 3 seconds left. If you have one play left, you make sure everyone knows what the f*** is going on. Well that's the issue here...he was not aware of that rule, obviously.
  9. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Nov 27, 2011 -> 07:36 PM) Well the offensive line sorta forgot to block. Hanie would've been implanted into the grass before Knox made it 20 yards. What? He sat back there and waited a second or two and no one was even moving. Go back and watch the play.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 27, 2011 -> 07:29 PM) What in the world was Hanie thinking about possibly throwing that ball instead of spiking it? You're hoping they anticipate the clock and you can run free. Unfortunately, none of the receivers understood what he was doing. Just think if Knox would have just taken off down the sideline. I doubt anyone would have reacted quickly enough to catch him.
  11. QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 27, 2011 -> 07:29 PM) You're just taking what the defense is giving you then. You can't do that with a minute left and no timeouts. No. You're hoping to get yourself in position to get a pass interference call near the end zone or break a tackle. Why are you going to throw into the area the defense is protecting? So you gain no yards? So you throw an interception?
  12. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 25, 2011 -> 02:42 AM) Could very easily be 5-6 now, but we're not, and hopefully we can take full advantage going into December. I'd say we'd need to win 2 out of the 3 against the Giants and Eagles to get the wild-card / win the division, whether we actually do that or not is another story. I dunno...the Giants have a pretty brutal schedule coming up...obviously playing the Cowboys is a function of that, but I tend to think the Cowboys are in awfully good shape here.
  13. Not impressed by these 49ers. Defense very stout, but offensively challenged.
  14. QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 24, 2011 -> 09:42 PM) http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7276717/...packers-lineman What a lying piece of s***. You'd be better off saying you lost your temper and acted immaturely and just apologizing, you fool.
  15. QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 24, 2011 -> 07:56 PM) I like how Suh didn't man up and apologize. Instead, he used the accident excuse. What an idiot. Have fun with your suspension idiot. Seriously? An accident that you rammed his head into the turf continuously, and then stomped on his arm in frustration afterwards? Way to disprove your dirty reputation on National tv, you f***ing dirtbag.
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 23, 2011 -> 02:12 PM) then why would the state outlaw dice? seems bizarre I don't think the state would care about whether a game could be beaten in regards to whether or not to legalize it. I think the law was probably created to try and limit full-scale casinos from operating within its borders.
  17. I've been drinking Moose Drool like a fiend. I also have been buying a lot of Rogue beers, and then a lot of Samuel Smith stuff.... Yumm yumm yumm

  19. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 12:51 PM) Yeah, I saw something several years back on Discovery on it. There's a lot of physical action involved there, and you have complete control of the dice. Preset them with certain sides facing up and, through enough repetition and practice, you'll be able to throw consistently. It's not a 100% guarantee but you can really stack the odds in your favor. They also showed how dealers (or whatever the table-runner is called for craps) try to throw people off if they see them doing it. It's not illegal. Ok, so I read up on this a little last night at work, and from what I could tell (I was blocked from viewing a lot of the sites), it is impossible to pull off unless the craps dealer consistently allows one to not bank the dice off the back wall. It may be possible to master the throw so that you barely bounce off the back wall and thus minimize the randomness intended by that surface, but most dealers will force you to throw the dice (or die, I suppose) harder. The surface of the wall they force you to bounce the die off of is made up of pyramids intended to produce a truly random result (and not allowing you to bank the die off a flat surface). I think impossible.

They also showed how dealers (or whatever the table-runner is called for craps) try to throw people off if they see them doing it. It's not illegal. Doesn't matter if it's illegal or not. Card-counting is technically not illegal, either. But if you show enough skill to actually beat them on a regular basis because you are influencing the outcome, they will ban you. I've never heard of someone actually being able to beat craps in this manner, however. I'm going to spend all night at work tonight reading up on this...
  21. Does the AFC get first dibs on him, like in baseball?
  22. Bellichick is just taking advantage of undervalued assets in the marketplace to maximize his resources...he's smart enough to understand how to incorporate them into his systems to achieve success. Obviously, much of this revolves around having one of the best qb's in history, but that's all he's doing.
  23. Well you can't deny that a player's abilities influence how a team's using him. I think it's pretty clear that Forte is a better receiver than Gore.
  24. QUOTE (HeGone33 @ Nov 21, 2011 -> 04:55 PM) You say you don't care about careers just now, but then your whole 2nd paragraph is about careers, points in careers, etc. Forte has 56 more yards than Gore. Gore had 5 straight games with 100+ yards rushing Gore has more rushing TDs this year. By your own arguement, these two players this year are extremely close and therfore you would look at previous years, well again, look at Gore's career. Let's not forget Gore didn't do a damn thing in his first few years, so he's pretty much done all this in 5 years. If you were starting a team today, would you choose Gore or Forte? You're going to have a hard time convincing me that an overwhelming majority wouldn't take Forte.
