I understand that Singletary came off like an idiot there, but now he can't coach because he acts like a douche to a member of the local media? Not buying it. Just as it is ignorant for Singletary to behave the way he did, do you guys really think judging a guy's coaching ability from the media clips you see is any less ignorant?

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 06:14 AM) It's been years since I've eaten at BK, but not because of their advertising. I love the high creepiness factor of the King for sheer entertainment value, but it doesn't get me to eat there. Can't beat a Wendy's $1.00 Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger when you're broke. Yeah, the .99 menu there is outstanding when you need to be thrify. I think we need to add Jared to this poll...Subway is basically the only fast food place I will eat at, and that is very infrequently. Jeremy, I saw you refer to 5 Guys...I've heard about that but haven't had it since it seemed to pop up after I moved out of the area...is that a true fast food place or more of a sit down joint?

Any thoughts about Ray LaMontagne's latest offering? I was a huge fan of Trouble, not so much the previous two albums, but think I am really digging this one. Having the Pariah Dogs playing behind him seems to add something that has been missing. Also finally got arounnd to picking up This is War, 30 Seconds to Mars' latest album. Pretty sweet.

QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 03:25 AM) Seriously. Big ups to ya Carl. I stopped again (Insanity) 2 days in.. The same dedication has worn off since I'm not a fat slob like I was before. (I still weigh a pretty good weight, though I've gained about 5-8 lbs since I stopped) Really don't know how I can re-motivate myself again, but I'll try next week. Ger, Do you have access to P90X? Maybe trying something different (and a little less insane, no pun intended) would help? The main reason I don't have a lot of interest in Insanity is because I think it's a bit much. Most of us really should have no illusions about having a body fat content below 10 %, and it just seems like what Insanity requires of you is a bit unrealistic in the long run. I could be wrong, as I have never gone through the program before, but personally, I don't want to put myself through a program which I have little or no hope of maintaining over the long haul.

Glad to see you're sticking with it, TRU. Some of the things get annoying, but on the whole, I think they did a pretty good job of avoiding it being really annoying. And look at the bright side...you'll move on to your "rest" week next week, and then Chest, Shoulders and Triceps the following week, so you get about 5 weeks away from Chest and Back

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 13, 2010 -> 06:33 PM) What would be interesting is say that play happened on the 50 yard line, the exact way except the receiver was never touched by a defender, as he pops up to run, the ball pops out, according to the rule, it wouldn't be a fumble but an incomplete pass. I'm sure if the Bears recovered it, it wouldn't be as obvious to Lovie as yesterday supposedly was and he would have thrown his little red flag and been rejected yet again. I'm not sure about that. I think had it occurred elsewhere on the field, it would have been ruled a fumble. In my opinion, the ball did not come out when the receiver went to the ground, but rather, when he tried to get back up. I think the fact that the play occurred in the end zone allows for the "process" of making the catch and going to the ground to be scrutinized for far too long, since the actual end of the play is determined subjectively, and not by some outside force, such as the out of bounds barrier or the player being ruled down by contact.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 13, 2010 -> 05:05 PM) It did happen to the Bears last season I believe. And I'm pretty sure 90 percent of Bears fans know that it was a bulls*** call, but we'll still take the W It happened against the Bears...Greg Jennings had a TD taken away against us last season. Twice now it has gone in our favor.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 13, 2010 -> 04:10 PM) The more I thought about it, the more it made sense actually. I came up with an analogous play. Say a receiver catches a ball in the endzone, falls to the ground and as he's making contact with the ground, the ball pops out, that's not a catch. I think in one way or another, the play yesterday is somewhat similar to that. Well that is exactly what the rule was created to address. That IS the play this rule was intended to address. Unfortunately, in this case, the receiver clearly had possession, and in my opinion, actually lost possession of the ball not when he was going to the ground, but when he was attempting to get back up.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 13, 2010 -> 11:27 AM) It wasn't a fumble that the ground caused, it was an incompletion. Here's my counter-example...let's say the same play happens on the 20 yard line...It's a 3rd and 25 from the 45 yard line, Johnson goes up, gets the ball, gets bumped on the way up, goes down backwards, and as he's going down he shifts his body position to try to stretch his arm out for the first down, and while he's stretching his arm out, the ball hits the ground and pops out. He's had possession the whole way down but the first legitimate movement he's made after the catch winds up jarring the ball loose. What do we call that? I think it' gets called an incompletion. The only difference here is that he might have been trying to spike it instead of trying to stretch out. My issue with the rule is that it creates a standard or minimum threshold for possession which does not exist (and rightfully so) in other instances, such as catching a pass and then going out of bounds. At least not to my knowledge. Say Johnson would have caught that ball, gotten two feet in bounds in the end zone, ball was not moving in his hands, and then his momentum carried him out of bounds, rather than falling down in the end zone. There is no "process" involved in making certain he holds on to the ball after leaving the field of play. What if Johnson catches the ball in bounds, then drops it 3 steps after he is runs out of bounds? Is there a process to make sure he possesses the ball until he stops running? No. Say the quarterback hands the ball off to Johnson on an end around, and Johnson gets tackled, and when he hits the ground, the ball squirts out of his hand. Is this a fumble? No. The ground cannot cause a fumble. It just seems as though in seeking to articulate a rule for this scenario, they have created one in which suddenly the threshold for possession is so high that when juxtaposed against other thresholds for possession, it appears foolish and inconsistent.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 12, 2010 -> 10:52 PM) We dominated on offense? Really? In the game today or are we talking about another one? We could have a 1000 yards on offense but since we still apparently can't score then it all doesn't mean s***. And I'll admit the D looked good....except for when it all matters in the end when the game is on the line. I personally will not be fooled, this team is bad and we're hilariously lucky we get to start 1-3 instead of 0-4 Yes, we dominated on offense. It did not mean a lot today, but it shows that the offense is capable of moving the ball, and if they take care of it a little better, they will score points.

QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Sep 12, 2010 -> 10:40 PM) Could be a double sour taste for the Lions. You lose the game in controversy and rumors are speculating Stafford is possibly done for the year. Yeah, the latter makes the former really meaningless...seems like we have a knack for beating down Stafford.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 12, 2010 -> 09:37 PM) Alex Barron is a close 2nd. Reminds me of John St. Clair...

I don't hold it against him either. Just a shame that we made a good pick, the player just did not work out for us. Speaking of Ware, he just left the game with a neck sprain. Sure would be terrible if he had to miss the game next week...

QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 12, 2010 -> 08:58 PM) Frank Omiyale is still literally the worst player in the NFL. And Williams is starting to look like a major disappointment, made all the more difficult to swallow when I hear Chris Collinsworth talk about how much a fixture Marc Columbo has been on the Cowboy's O-line. But I think a lot of times today, especially after the strip from behind, Jay just didn't trust that the protection was there and started scrambling and/or throwing the ball earlier than necessary. Once he gets accustomed to playing under Martz, and when the O-line does gel a bit more, I think he'll improve. Hopefully we can keep him from getting killed next week against DeMarcus Ware though.
-
I was actually pleasantly surprised today. Both sides of the ball played much better than I anticipated, although the O-line was a bit of a concern, as expected. We did dominate on both sides of the ball though, and most games, we would have won easily with those performances. I think as these guys get accustomed to playing one another, and Jay starts trusting Martz to not get him killed with his protection schemes, I think we'll see something really special on offense - more than we have ever really seen as Bears fans outside of short stretches while Erik Kramer and Rex Grossman were behind center. I, for one, am excited by what I saw, despite the near loss, and am very much looking forward to next Sunday.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 10, 2010 -> 11:54 PM) I don't have an explanation. Those are some pretty drastic splits. But I don't think this is a Preston Wilson situation either. Carlos' skillset should translate to consistent production no matter the park. Next year will be telling on if he truly is a product of Coors. And even if he is, my love for him will stay true. I think he'll pick it up in other parks. He'll always hit better at Coors, but who wouldn't?
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 08:09 PM) He just hit a 3-run bomb a few minutes ago. Shack, Brian and Tony can kiss my buttocks (I mean that in a playful way). Carlos Gonzalez > life. Hah, I have him in my fantasy keeper league, so trust me, I am a big fan. I just wanted to see your explanation of the splits, that's all.

Garland is a slightly above-average to average innings eater. A valuable commodity in the major leagues. He has never had an injury of any significance, will give you 20-25 quality starts a year, and will give you a chance to win most ballgames in which he starts. Is he an ace? No. Is he a number 2? No. He's an NL #3 and and AL #4. Nothing to laugh at, nothing to marvel at.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 12:49 PM) Couldn't agree more. It's not like he was getting hit hard in 2 of those 3 bad starts. If Beckham had any range at all, he could have had a decent start vs the A's. Come on Fathom...you were one of his harshest critics in the game threads...we can't always play revisionist history here...
-
Well, at least I can focus on the Bears 0-7 start now.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 11:48 AM) True, but errors usually even out for outfielders. Who cares about errors? That's 2 runs Morel just cost us. Thanks pal.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 11:45 AM) I think Quentin has more errors since the ASB than home runs. Carlos is horrible in the field, but give me a break...you get throws like that all the time from the OF as an infielder, especially at 3B. Knock the thing down without booting it 15 feet away.
-
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 11:42 AM) Morel was trying to make a play. A play that was well within his rights to attempt whether he dove or not. Another great play by Morel.
-
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 11:39 AM) If a 3B can step in front of a SS to make a play you do it. It was certainly his ball to play. Not if you have to leave your feet. The entire purpose is to field the ball more quickly than it would take to reach the ss. If you have to dive and you still don't have a good chance to field the ball, and your ss is amongst the best in the league, then no, it's not your ball to play.
