QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 01:24 PM) Kotsay PH for Konerko? Seriously? Kotsay was grounding out to infielders on things that should have been double plays like he'd been practicing it all spring. I actually would have liked to pinch hit for Konerko there too...Konerko is now 2-11 against Lewis, although he did hit that change-up pretty hard right at Sizemore. The way I see it is if we are going to pay guys like Kotsay 1.2 million or whatever to be solid bench players, we need to utilize them as such, regardless of whether it is a move that takes a guy like Pauly out of the game or not. I'd much rather see Kotsay in that situation than starting 2-3 times a week.

Well, I have watched the Indians' broadcast the last two nights and they have been talking at length about the time it takes a pitcher to deliver to the plate. 1.3 seconds, according to them, is about league average. So .9-1.1 is actually very quick. Secondly, they remarked specifically about Perez's pickoff move, and said themselves that it is brutal. They said he shouldn't even throw over there because it gives the runner a chance to pick up on an indicator. So if your stopwatch it right, he has a quick delivery to the plate, but according to those who know best, he has a poor pickoff move. Even still, Ozzie bunted Beckham twice in this situation, so I don't think it has anything to do with the pitchers. Personally, I would have allowed Pierre to steal the base.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 04:14 PM) The hammer set gets deadly. I would like to point out that the 21's are an unreal start to those workouts. Yeah, as I started them, I was remembering your comment and switched from 40s to 30s...

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 02:01 PM) Meh. There was very little to listen to last night with our 2 hits. Hawk gets on my nerves rather easily. I was just giving you a hard time, friend. You are correct though, the iPad is certainly limited in what it can do from a multi-tasking perspective. I thought about this a lot before I made the purchase, even going so far as looking into buying a used Macbook to get the prices more in line. I think if you like to be this active with your multi-tasking, a laptop is definitely the way to go rather than the iPad (at least for the time being).
-
Hmm, I think you need to worry less about multi-tasking on your device and more about managing your time better....listening to music instead of the second game of the year....Blasphemy!

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 01:51 PM) Just to break things up here.... Last night I followed the Sox game on TV on the couch with my laptop. Had the game thread open, tweetdeck, pidgeon IM, and lala streaming music. Can I do all of that with an iPad? I seriously want to know. You were listening to music while watching the game? No, you cannot. You could have music playing via the iPod function while you used one of the other applications. You could check the remaining applications very easily as well, but you could not leave them open. I'll tell you how I use it...I put the game on tv, I use the iPad to watch my fantasy league, to check my emails, and to post on Soxtalk.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 12:24 PM) I am not an iphone person and I rip the fact that it is on the nations s***tiest network ATT. But as a pure phone, if the price was even for everything I probably wouldn't buy an iphone. My carrier doesn't offer the iphone so I have a blackberry which I love. And the reason I wouldn't buy an iphone has nothing to do with the OS and everything to do with the fact that I can't stand having only touch as an option. I like buttons for my texting, etc. One day that might change, but as of now, I'm old fashion with my phones. The Iphone outside of the fact that it has ATT and data plans are expensive through ATT (and Verizon for that matter) compared with the plan I have through Sprint an the non touch is as good of a phone as there possibly could be. Jason, a lot of how you feel about your network depends on how it works for YOU personally. I had Sprint for years and years and always battled with their customer service reps (who, in my experience, were brutal), and I always struggled to get service in my own house. Granted, I could get service out in the middle of nowhere where no Verizon users could, but not in my own home. I have AT&T now, and I have not had any issues with it. But that probably has everything to do with the fact that AT&T is solid here in Vegas and I get great reception in my place. But who knows, maybe if I lived two blocks over the reception would not be good and I would think AT&T was brutal. As for the phone, well, the iPhone/Blackberry debate is very similar to Mac/PC.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 12:16 PM) I really don't think that's accurate. People rip the iPhone, but only because of the carrier that Apple has it's exclusivity agreement with... You don't think Apple is polarizing? Interesting...I can't think of another company off the top of my head whose products have such a crazy range of emotion attached to them.
-
QUOTE (BobDylan @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 12:14 PM) Not a large part. It is because of the OS. The hardware isn't made by Apple. I think you misinterpreted my statement? Or maybe I am misinterpreting yours... I'm saying the reason Macbooks have such a limited marketshare is because of the OS, unlike the iPhone or the iPod.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 12:08 PM) Everytime a laptop comes out, I don't hear people saying, this is an Imac killer? Why, because Imac gets completely destroyed when it comes to the market share of laptops within the US and World. When it comes to the iphone they are by far and away the most innovative company out there and the first to really revolutionize things. Everyone else is playing catch-up so clearly it will be referred to as the Iphone killer. Why, because those companies are going after the #1, top dog. A large part of that is because of the OS, and has nothing to do with the actual product.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 12:05 PM) Uh, dude. Um. How emphatically can I say "yes"? I couldn't care less if it was made by Apple or Sony or Dell or HP or Google. If I feel the product does not give enough bang for the buck, then I'll say it. You thinking it has anything to do with it being an Apple product shows how bloated Apple fanboys' perception of their brand really is... Obviously I can't speak for everyone when I say that, but in general, I think Apple is a very polarizing company. Therefore, we have people that are overly critical as well as those who praise them too much. I admit, I probably fall into the latter category, which is interesting, since 5 years ago, I probably fell into the former category.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 11:50 AM) I'd flat out tell you that a Zune is crap compared to an IPOD. But the Zune is crap compared to an iPod. That isn't disputed. What I am saying is that everytime a decent new product is made by someone else, it is hailed as the next "iP_____ killer." If Google had manufactured this product, I just think there would be far more praise (yes, people would point out it's shortcomings), but far less vitriol would be spewed. Let's face it, any time a company is wildly successful such as Apple has been over the course of the past 10 years, there is a portion of society that puts forward a disproportionate quantity and degree of undeserved criticism. I think with each new product Apple unveils, that seems to become more and more apparent.
-
QUOTE (BobDylan @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 12:38 PM) Steve already replied with what I was going to say. His hate wasn't directed at Apple, his hate was directed at the tablet and why he won't buy it - regardless of the brand on it. But, the layout of your arguments is pretty similar throughout. 1. State that said Apple product does everything you want it to. 2. State that it looks cooler. 3. State that it is made with better materials than everything else. 4. s*** on PC. We get it. And really, if there has been any hate towards Apple in this thread, it's been pricepoint. And that's 100% valid, and it's not really hate. So you're going to claim that if this product was made by IBM or Google the reviews by PC owners would be just as critical?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 12:34 PM) Alright. I'll give you that. I still think if the iPad was half the cost, it'd be a worthwhile machine. However, we've been down this road, and we do not need to go down it again. It definitely is a cool little device, and the ABC App alone shows how awesome it really could be when utilized to its fullest solely as an entertainment platform. Yeah, the value in many of their latest devices is coming from the app developers rather than Apple themselves (although obviously they have created the great platform).
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 12:28 PM) Which was completely irrelevant and had nothing to do with the Apple iPad. It could have been the Google F*ckbuddy and if it was as useless and non-revolutionary as the iPad seems to be, I would have said the same thing. Actually, it was entirely relevant in that statement because I was remarking about the propensity of some critics to compare the iPad dollar to dollar with a Windows machine.
-
BD, on the contrary. Last I checked, this is a thread I created about an Apple product. And if you read it, you'll see people were taking a crap on that Apple product, which I was merely defending. I took a whack at Windows' machines only after Steve came in here and proclaimed the newest Apple product absolutely pointless after using it for 2 hours. Again, if you read my comments, I have not once stated that people should not use Windows' machines, or that people are mistaken for buying Windows' machines, or that people should buy Apple machines instead of Windows' machines, etc. Finally, it is certainly more than 2-3 PCs I have used that have become difficult to work with. I have been working with computers since 1990 or so, so trust me, it has been countless personal and work computers which I have had to suffer with, including the one I am typing at now (since I am at work).
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 10:59 AM) By the way Shack, I'm sure Apples are f***ing ridiculously good machines and I'd hope they would be at there price-point. If I had unlimited money I'd probably buy an apple and run it on bootcamp or whatever its called now-a-days so I can run both operating systems. But as of now I don't and I think there are very good PC products out there that do a great job at a lot less of the cost and I'm sure there are plenty of other products with s*** components that will have issues and do a crappy job. I paid about $1,500 3 years ago for an iMac that I run both Snow Leopard and Windows XP on via Parallels. I've never had any significant issues with it, and it has handled everything I've thrown at it quite well (which, admittedly, is not all THAT much). But from my personal perspective, every other PC I've had has started going downhill around the 2-3 year mark and just denegrades so quickly that I get frustrated and buy a new machine. Meanwhile, this machine takes up less space, has a big, easy to read screen, and does not cause clutter in my desk area like a Window's machine from the same time period would have. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying everyone should go buy and Apple, or that Apple's are the best machines for everyone....As a matter of fact, I am happy that far lesser people use Mac's because it makes it a safer OS to use.
-
Oh, I wasn't talking about the hardware components, I was talking about the actual construction of the machines. The aluminum unibody construction, the "tightness" of the construction, etc. I may indeed be mistaken, but when I pick up or use most Apple machines, they seem much more well-built than most PCs.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 09:26 AM) I hope you are ready for Palm to go bankrupt, because it is inevitable. They really have been putting out a poor product for a while and with the Android buzz they are going to need some sort of revolutionary new product (or to get acquired) to save them. I'll never bet against Google. I'm also not going to be against Apple either. I might not support it, but they've marketed the hell out of themeslves and have become the cool thing to do. There margins have to be pretty fat too, but I don't know what sort of fixed costs they have and how much they spend marketing, etc vs a PC. Cause I'd have to think the actual cost to building a mac vs a pc aren't too different, even though the prices are significantly different. They use far, far better materials in their machines than most PC manufacturers. They also spend much more on the design and contruction of those machines. Which is why you get such a high quality and build.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 09:50 AM) My PC has done everything I've needed it to do and hasn't stopped me from doing anything I couldn't. There has never been a time where I looked at my computer and said, s***, if only I had a mac I could do this or if only I had a mac I wouldn't have this issue. Never has that ever happened to me. So since that is the case, I can't really justify paying double for a machine that for all intents and purposes to me, will do nothing better for me. And I'm not referring to an Ipad, I'm referring to a Mac compared with a PC. Oh, I know what you're referring to. If you managed to work with Vista without being frustrated, annoyed, having to restart or shutdown, or without just plainly giving up in frustration, than you should consider yourself lucky. Have you used a Mac machine on a consistent basis at all? I am a Mac user, and going back to Windows' machines and having to use Vista while staying at my parents' home on my visits home to Chicago has been absolutely brutal. The difference, in my experience, between using a Windows' machine and a Mac machine over the course of the past several years has been night and day. To the point where if a Mac machine was 5x's the cost of the Windows' machine I would still buy a Mac.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 09:16 AM) Maybe I'm ignorant, but why did Vista make everyones lives a computing disaster. I agree that I wasn't a huge fan of the OS system, but it still worked, was functional, and I've never ran into any significant issues while operating with it. It was a resources hog though. Well, to be fair, I said it made peoples' computing experience a disaster, not their lives a computing disaster...) Secondly, so because it managed to work and be functional, it was not a complete disaster of a product? Is that the standard that you have come to accept from Microsoft? Is that a reflection on what they have done to PC users that those users are willing to accept something that merely manages to "work" and be "functional"?
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 06:32 AM) Which, in this case, is limited and strictly-controlled functionality. Maybe so, but I really don't know enough about computers to really care. I just want the product to be good at what I want and need it to do. Apple machines seem to be much better at accomplishing that for me.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 11:11 PM) In answer to your question ... I'm not a big Kotsay fan but I'm not a big Jones fan either. I'd rather see some young guy in the minors be our DH. I don't care who he is really, just not either one of those 2 guys. That's brilliant. You don't care who it is, so it could be anyone, regardless of potential....just so it isn't the guys we currently have... I absolutely love that sort of attitude.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 08:14 PM) It's the Apple arrogance that gets to people. Its like talking to Yankees fans. It's really not arrogance. It's the happiness that comes with owning a product that actually works like it is supposed to...
