Update: Luis Robert has been cleared according to Rosenthal

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 6, 2017 -> 08:25 AM) Ha, I was trying to figure out a way to post this yesterday, yours was much better. There's obviously some exceptions (I seem to remember Soler AND why can't I remember the Japanese player who played for cubs) took less to sign with Cubs. But, I certainly don't want to rely on that. -
My friend and I were discussing this a few weeks ago. He was asking whether I thought we would be horrendous this year. I said, well, I anticipated we would be, but honestly, the team hasn't changed THAT much. Yes, Sale and Eaton are big losses, but it isn't as if this is the NBA. I wouldn't be shocked at all if, through a combination of other occurrences, we end up being either just as good or better.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 01:03 AM) Hindsight is 20/20 Of course it is, but that is completely besides the point. One would hope that baseball executives learn from history, particularly recent history. I think that premium positions should be important, but this is a fascinating topic. Identifying solid bats at premium defensive positions is obviously ideal, but so difficult because players that tend to be ahead of the curve offensively often tend to be ahead of the growth curve to remain at those same premium positions. Such a mindf*** for scouts trying to project some of these guys. Gets you to the point where you're utilizing almost all projection to try and find the few guys that will produce offensively and be able to remain at their premium position.

David Price Reports are Surgery NOT needed..

Who thinks DD and RH have been on the phone today? -
Well, I flat-out disagree. I think if you're drafting 1-1 you're hoping it turns out a little better than "economically viable" over the life of the contract or whatever. You're hoping for a high-impact player, potentially a perennial AS...I don't think Pat Burrell/Phil Nevin/Darin Erstad are the poster boy for that. If we go into the 2018 draft and select some guy at 1-1 or even 1-2 and the comps are Phil Nevin or Darin Erstad I am going to be a bit disappointed.
-
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Feb 28, 2017 -> 04:50 PM) Pat Burrell, Darin Erstad, Nevin didn't play a premium psotion And looking back at their careers, does anyone think they warranted their draft selection?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 28, 2017 -> 04:10 PM) Anyone ever take cooking classes? My side passion in life is cooking and I only really have skills and techniques ive picked up from other people and I'd like some formal instruction. A good friend of mine quit practicing law and went to culinary school with the goal of opening a food truck to serve the Tesla Gigafactory this Fall. I think she went to a school that is affiliated with Martha Stewart.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 26, 2017 -> 03:14 PM) It's is pretty cool, and each pod has heaters so it's open all winter in Chicago. Yeah, it was a bit chilly here last night...but you would have never known it with those heaters on. They definitely did not mess around when they built those places.

Wife through a surprise birthday party for me last night at TopGolf. Wow, what a fun place!

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Feb 25, 2017 -> 09:20 AM) I work out pretty much exclusively at home and I love it. I don't have to leave the house, I can wear whatever I want, listen to my own music and never have to deal with people. I don't really do any heavy lifting though, mostly full body circuits. I have a treadmill, pull up bar, Powerblock dumbbells (5-50), TRX, stability ball, medicine ball, some bands, and Crossrope jump ropes. Right on. This is the way I like to do it as well.

QUOTE (kevo880 @ Feb 24, 2017 -> 10:18 AM) We are throwing around the idea of building a little home gym in our garage with a squat rack, bench, dumb bells, etc. My wife was really into crossfit before she got pregnant and instead of paying $150/month for crossfit dues, she would rather do her own thing at home. I hate going to the gym so I would be much more inclined to workout if we had equipment at home. Has anyone done this? Thoughts? I think a lot of this depends on what motivates you and your wife to workout. Do you enjoy working out alone or with videos? Or do you enjoy group fitness? Do you enjoy having a live instructor? There are a lot of people with home gyms collecting dust because they didn't really understand what would motivate them to work out.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 01:55 PM) http://meadowparty.com/blog/2017/02/23/klawchat-22317/ Yeah, I don't mind giving him a look at second, but otherwise I'd be floored if he could play a solid CF. -
QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Feb 22, 2017 -> 03:39 PM) With regards to fundamentals I will quote a fairly successful Alabama football coach: "We don't practice until we get it right. We practice until we can't get it wrong" Ooh I like that. That Lane Kiffin was full of great quotes!

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 02:15 PM) They brought Flowers up to back up AJ and he was vehemently opposed to the idea of being a mentor. His personality is not akin to mentoring. The only thing AJ would help the Sox do is lose more games. Sign him up then!

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Feb 18, 2017 -> 11:19 PM) Are you guys talking running in the open world? I assume that must be harder than on an elliptical, because after 7 years and being quite out of shape, I did a little over 2 miles in 17 minutes. Probably could have reached the 3rd mile by minute 26 or so. I doubt I'm somehow a skilled runner, just going to assume elliptical is easier. Running outdoors is generally considered to be more difficult than running on a machine, particularly a treadmill, because the belt is helping your turnover. Not sure how that correlates to an elliptical.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 07:16 PM) Well it's been somewhat of a mixed bag. Kopech & Lopez have both moved up quite a bit over the past 12 months. It may also be a reflection of availability on the market.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 05:48 PM) Very much so. Is that good, bad or indifferent?

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 05:43 PM) He said you would know the direction after the first couple of moves. There actually were a couple of moves before the trades, and he clearly has said time and time again they are closer to the beginning than the end of the rebuild, would like to make 4 more of these trades, and has said other teams ownership has nixed 2 deals. The LaRoche connection conspiracy is crazy. It just worked out that the first 2 were Sale and Eaton, could have been Frazier and Q. I actually thought it was the first move. I don't think they are this petty. What would be the point of trading those two and then just holding serve? Wouldn't we have a Napoli signing? A Wieters signing? -
QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 04:38 PM) The tech is great, but honestly I mostly just use CarPlay. The ride is just pure joy, even in the comfort setting. Didn't go with a lot of options, and the only thing I really miss are the really cool LED DRLs, but overall I'm really happy. I'm conditioned to worry about Audi reliability, and yet all the major reliability metrics have Audi near the top of brand performance. Yeah, they have cleaned up their act recently. I've had them for the last 10 years with no major issues (absent the damn convertible top mentioned above). I just started using CarPlay...not sure how I feel. Glad you are enjoying it!

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 05:14 PM) Hansen could realistically be a top 30 prospect by the end of next season. I can respect why people are skeptical right now, but a strong year in full season ball will make a lot of believers. Wasn't he a #1 overall candidate at one point? If that's the case, I think it's pretty clear a return to form means the sky is the limit (and obviously for his prospect status).

2016-17 free agency thread (NON WHITE SOX RELATED)
iamshack replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 12, 2017 -> 02:22 PM) I don't get how a guy like Phillips has so little trade value, all though it goes a long way towards explaining again why certain guys are still on the White Sox. It almost makes one think one might be able to assemble a team of over-the-hill veterans and WIN THE WHOLE DAMN THING -
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 12, 2017 -> 01:32 PM) Yea I won't, just want one If I ever move out west I'd get a car like that, but just so not worth it here in Chicago. I had a tt convertible...it was fun for about a year...when the damn top started breaking every other day. If you ever do get a convertible, get one with a hard top.
-
QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 08:01 PM) 2017 A4 2.0T quattro. There is an A5 sport Cabriolet, but yeah, in Chicago that's a little silly. The Quattro is excellent and the handling is nuts. This one makes 255 hp and it's on the Torsen quattro setup. Nice! You like the tech inside? My Q7 and your A4 are the first to get the overhaul. So far, pretty happy with it.
-
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 06:54 PM) Is that an A4 or A6? I still really like the Q3, but lately I've been drooling over getting a 2 door sporty convertible. 100% stupid for Chicago but dammit I want one Don't do it Russ. ALWAYS problems with the dumb tops on those things. If you want an open air vehicle, get a Wrangler.
