QUOTE (Footlongcomiskeydog @ May 20, 2017 -> 07:55 AM) Any ideas on Plan B for the Sox if they can't land Robert? They appear to have all their eggs in his basket so I'm not exactly sure how they pivot if they are outbid. Yeah, they move that money towards a future MLB expenditure.

Completed my 100th ride on the Peloton today. Have ridden over 1,520 miles in 76 hours and burned 71,720 calories (according to Peloton). I suspect the actual caloric burn is closer to 45,000. Great bike! Great community of people! Super impressed still after almost 5 months.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2017 -> 08:13 PM) At what point do you move him up to 3rd in the lineup? Melky batting there is insane I don't care when he hits, as long as he keeps hitting...it's a huge development for the org. Now, if we could just get Davidson going again.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 18, 2017 -> 08:10 PM) Well Todd doubled his last time and was stranded. Our clutch hitting sucks Yeah, because he swung at a pitch he could actually hit, instead of something inside that he could do nothing more than what he did with it. He's f***ing terrible.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 18, 2017 -> 08:07 PM) Good Avi is such a beautiful thing to watch. Something clicked with his pitch recognition. f*** you, Todd.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 17, 2017 -> 02:15 PM) We've had our new plug-in hybrid car for a month. Used by both drivers for almost everything. 1250 miles and have yet to put gas in it. Down to about half of a tank thanks to a couple longer city-suburb trips. Plus since we use this car for nearly everything, the other car is barely used. Our monthly actual gasoline cost has gone down to virtually zero from about two hundred dollars. Based on our current electric costs, the equivalent cost we are paying is about 25 dollars a month to charge the car. If maybe we have to gas it up once every other month, at about 30 bucks a pop, that's a total cost of around $40/month for gas. So we are saving $160 a month. We didn't even bother buying a fancy charger. Car came with a regular plug, charges it fully in about 7 hours. That's overnight for us anyway. This is fantastic. Highly recommend it, if you do a lot of driving. NSS, are you taking advantage of a time of use rate overnight or a special electric vehicle rate?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 16, 2017 -> 06:09 AM) My wife and I have talked for years about doing a trip to Glacier National Park (which I haven't been to yet), and as a grand retirement party (in like 15-20 years) to rent one of those private train cars and take the train from Chicago to the park. Given the rate at which the glaciers are disappearing from Glacier, we are now dropping the train thing (which is expensive as hell) and just road tripping to Glacier next summer to get there much sooner. Legitimately concerned most or all will be gone by the time 20 years rolls around. I think you should have taken this as a sign that you need to retire early, not that you need to drop the train idea!

QUOTE (ptatc @ May 5, 2017 -> 12:10 PM) Good Luck! My son was square in the "idle hands are the devils workshop" category. I remember one time they had a worksheet or something to do at a group table. The group couldn't go to the play area until everybody in the group finished. He finished his and took everyone's sheet and finished it for them so they could get to the play area. Once the teacher gave him the extra things we gave her, he was fine but it took us awhile to figure out how to keep him out of trouble. Sounds like a hell of a problem solver to me

I think this, and other feedback the team has received, goes to show that the fanbase is just thankful that a direction has been chosen. All the cries about attendance getting even worse if we rebuild look incorrect at this point.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 15, 2017 -> 04:30 AM) I honestly cannot remember the last time he broke any news or any of his "rumors" turned out to be true down the road. I take his information with the same amount of skepticism as some random dude on Twitter. I view random dudes on Twitter as more credible, as I at least have no idea of their motives for tweeting.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 11, 2017 -> 07:57 PM) I've been dark from the site of late, but don't worry I love you dorks. Anyway, a couple years back I discussed the hard decision to take a new job. Said job was for a company that promoted me to Vice President of Marketing a couple weeks back. I made the right choice. Way to go, Steve! Crazy that was a couple years ago already...keep up the good work, and definitely the right decision!

QUOTE (FT35 @ May 11, 2017 -> 12:34 PM) I've heard! Would love to hit a game there. Plus, I'm from Fort Wayne, IN and our little single A team is a Padres affiliate. We've seen some great prospects here--including Rymer Liriano, who while watching him in 2011--you would have sworn he was the next big name to come on to the scene. I can def see why the Sox took a flier on him...sucks that he's turning out to be Lastings Millege part 2 so far. Now that is a blast from the past!

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 8, 2017 -> 06:31 AM) https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/07/us/polit...yp=cur&_r=0 I just have to remind myself sometimes that the Republicans do not hide their policy agenda whatsoever, and that these sorts of actions are what people vote for The great thing about this is I really think this ship has sailed for the most part. Coal is not coming back irregardless of the politics at this point. The real questions remaining is whether it is worth considering taking some of the federal subsidies out of solar and wind and putting them into other technologies, particularly those involving storage.

QUOTE (Yoda @ May 10, 2017 -> 05:30 AM) The vet gave me some hope. He said it could be lymph nodes but it could also be an abscess. He took a blood test and said it be a few days to get the results from lab and make a proper diagnosis. Another positive is my Schnauzer has not shown signs of fatigue, nor has he been vomiting or had diarrhea and has maintained the same weight for the past 2 months. Good to hear. Keep us posted!

QUOTE (Yoda @ May 9, 2017 -> 11:50 AM) Has anyone had a dog whose lymph nodes have swollen steadily? I have a Schnauzer and he's about a year and a half. I have an appointment with the vet later this afternoon. Just reading and watching vids on this has made me a bit sick and not sure if anyone can give an enlightening story. How did it go with the vet?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 09:03 AM) Seeing more since my previous post, it sounds like Houston was actively talking to SF in an effort to trade up for Trubisky. I would imagine the Bears would have also heard from Houston in that same attempt to trade up. This is likely the case; unfortunately, this is probably an example of the asymmetry between how much time FO/coaching regimes have and what is realistic. Leads to reaches to get that QB, even though over the longer term, this was likely not the best use of resources.

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 08:07 AM) Adam Jahns New postPosted: Fri Apr 28, 2017 10:29 am Post subject: Reply with quote Adam JahnsVerified account @adamjahns 1h1 hour ago 1. The 49ers might have been playing their hand well, but there were absolutely teams calling to move up for QBs. 2. The Browns, Chiefs, Texans and Cardinals all had interest in moving up. Told that Browns and Chiefs coveted Mitch Trubisky. 3. The #Bears wanted Mitch Trubisky. He was their draft at that point. Bluffed or not, team made correct move to get him. Regret = worse. 4. In the end, the Chiefs and Texans did actually move up to draft quarterbacks. So don't doubt their attempts to move up at all. 5. Don't forget what happened in 2014. #Bears were stunned when Aaron Donald was selected right before them. How'd that work out? 6. Regardless of what teams were offering 49ers' deals, the existence of them spurred bold action by #Bears. I wouldn't fault them for that. 7. Don't think the Browns wanted Trubisky? Think again. They passed on Deshaun Watson. Trubisky was their guy from get to. 8. There are always ways to recoup picks in the draft. #Bears stuck close to value of swapping picks from 3 to 2. 9. In the end, if Mitch Trubisky turns out to be a franchise QB for the #Bears will anyone remember what they traded? Time will tell. Ugh

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 07:51 AM) One thing to remember is...no one thought the Bears were taking a QB @ 3. That includes most other teams. My guess is they were getting calls from teams looking to move up to get a QB (or other player) and one of those teams was the Browns (who had no idea Bears were in on Trubisky and who thought Bears were moving down...because Bears didn't want Browns to take Trubisky one...they wanted Browns to think they could get "cute" and get both of there guys). When Pace was hearing the offers from the Browns, he probably knew, if he wasn't willing to deal, then the Browns might (or were) also talking to Niners (and there could be other teams in the equation as well), so with that, he had Trubisky as the franchise guy and moved up to make sure he got him. I could definitely see the above scenario playing out...it could be nonsense too. They key is whether they truly LOVE Trubisky or if they talked themselves into him as one of the available options this year. I know absolutely nothing, but I would have preferred to keep Jay for another year, drafted BPA and addressed the QB sitch next year under the assumption you'd suck again and there would be better QB prospects you liked more then.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 07:51 AM) Ya I've heard one of the biggest pluses with Trubisky was his accuracy so not sure why Gruden thinks that. I think he was referring specifically to balls further downfield. I was in the middle of making dinner so I was doing 5 things at once, but I thought I heard/saw/read that they had a lot of run/pass options and his high completion percentage was helped by a lot of short passes out of the backfield.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 07:37 AM) I don't like having to lose picks to get him, just wondering if there's something beyond the experience. Everything on him I saw/read was positive except for "how did he lose out twice to start in college" Gruden seemed to think he was not particularly accurate. Although Gruden forgave all of Watson's interceptions saying they were "easily correctable."

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 06:00 AM) I love it. Trubisky wasn't my top QB but Pace put his nuts on the table. I wanted them to have conviction and take the QB that they liked best. This is where franchise QB's are taken. They were getting offers for the 3rd pick for a QB, so they jumped up a spot and got him. They'll recoup picks tonight but that's not the point. He isn't being safe. I loved his comments last night at the press conference about being aggressive. In order to win consistently you need a long-term answer at QB. If Trubisky hits, nobody will care what the cost was. If it doesn't, Pace will probably get fired. It definitely buys him some time though. Personally, I'm glad he had the balls to do it. Again, this doesn't justify being a f***ing idiot though with your assets. A franchise QB has almost limitless value, as it is essentially the ante to get into contender ranks. That doesn't mean you blindly throw assets around like a fool so you can take a chance on a QB early. Under this logic, should he have traded more picks if John Lynch asked? Agreed that if Trubisky pans out, the price paid to acquire him is forgotten, but what also won't be talked about is the guy(s) they missed out on because they decided to get sloppy with their picks. Irregardless of the lure of a franchise qb, you still have to manage the draft and manage your assets wisely. You don't just throw everything at one pick and then say "if he pans out, it will be worth it."

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Apr 27, 2017 -> 09:26 PM) Hated Cutler, got Glennon Hate Glennon, took Trubisky Still mad. I sometimes wish they would come out and admitted that they'll be f***ing bad for 4 years because all of you evidently believe since you didn't hear that, they'll be good. Would Garrett, Watson, Adams, Thomas, etc gotten them to 10-6 this year? No? Then find a way to get a guy to be your future at the most important position in sports They gave up their shot at a few special teams players and maybe a starter by giving up mid-round picks. GMAB. Pace got his guy. If he's great, awesome. If not, Pace is gone after the 2019 season. But, I do know that taking the next Aaron Donald (Thomas) wins you jack s***; ask the Rams how Aaron Donald is helping them win Super Bowls. You have to have a QB. Let's see how it plays out I think we get that...if the guy turns into the real deal, there is almost no price not worth paying. That doesn't mean you just start giving away everything to get your man. It seems like John Lynch's preparation for tonight was to watch Kevin Costner in Draft Day and Pace and Co. were f***ing dumb enough to fall for it.
