QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 8, 2017 -> 11:50 AM) Here's a mock from yesterday (Ryan Phillips from thebiglead.com?): http://thebiglead.com/2017/06/07/2017-mlb-...greene-wind-up/ I'd be thrilled if the top 10 went that way.

Yeah, I'd be floored if both Beck and Kendall made it to us at 11. I'd take either, but definitely want one of the two.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 8, 2017 -> 04:59 AM) Michael was 1-9 without Scottie his first three years and lost to the same Detroit team 3 years on a row until they got old in '91. You telling me throughout that entire 6-year period MJ never made a questionable basketball play? GMAB. MJ is so f***ing lucky he came up when he came up. Dude, learn to read. What are you even responding to?

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 8, 2017 -> 03:15 AM) Michael Jordan would never let John Paxson or Steve Kerr take a last second shot with the series on the line, right? And btw, no need to always be the snarky little, well, you know. Were the Bulls down 2-0 when Michael passed off to Kerr or Paxson? Was this after passing up dunks at the rim? Was "the shot" known as the 3 pointer John Paxson hit from the corner?

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 8, 2017 -> 03:15 AM) Michael Jordan would never let John Paxson or Steve Kerr take a last second shot with the series on the line, right? I'm not complaining about one play. I don't mind, in a vacuum, that he passes to Korver there who is open for a three he often hits. I'm complaining that the Cavs, in particular, did this repeatedly in the second half, to the point where LeBron was almost giving away uncontested shots from 5 feet in favor of three pointers, which they continuously missed. At some point you take the easy bucket and/or free throws because of the percentages and the experience you're seeing in this particular game. Both Jackson and Van Gundy commented on this repeatedly. So it's not just about the play to Korver. This occurred 5+ times. As for LeBron, look, the guy is a spectacular player. And I'm not looking to start the discussion of who is the better player, LeBron or Mike. But folks, Mike wouldn't have lost that game. He simply wouldn't have allowed it to happen. Down in crunch time, up 6, down 2-0 in the series, he's not passing the f***ing ball from the lane to a role player. He's f***ing taking Steph f***ing Curry to the rack and finishing or getting fouled to salt away that game. That was the difference between Jordan in his prime and any other player. He simply wasn't going to let you win.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 7, 2017 -> 09:39 PM) Korver almost never misses that shot, it was the right play per usual by LeBron. Can't believe we're still doing the LeBron is too passive routine in 2017. The Cavs missed a LOT of 3's in the second half where they passed on easy shots near the rim to try for the open 3. Did you watch the game? They were being criticized by two former NBA coaches. I get that you want to make the pass to the open man. But in critical stages of the game, you need to know you can not be denied from scoring at the rim. No one was going to stop LeBron from scoring at the basket, but you want to leave it up to Kyle f***ing Korver?

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 7, 2017 -> 08:52 PM) Kyrie having to go 1x1 vs. Klay Thompson shouldn't be their best move at the end of games. They should have tried to get a smaller defender like Curry to switch onto LeBron so he can drive. That worked great for them for most of the 4th. Kyrie was exhausted. Kyrie got them the lead in the third while LeBron treated water. The 4th quarter was LeBron's, and he refused to take it.

QUOTE (Boogua @ Jun 7, 2017 -> 08:51 PM) Now I have to figure out if I should hedge. Have Warriors to sweep 300 to win 3110. KD is the truth. Lebron trying to go for his triple double there on that last Korver miss, I wouldn't hedge. I think Cleveland is dead after losing that. I don't think LeBron was going for a triple double, he's just not single-minded enough. He could have taken the ball to the basket all night and he just got fatigued. I don't ever want to hear anyone compare him to Michael again.

QUOTE (Tony @ Jun 7, 2017 -> 04:38 PM) The problem is Greg chooses not to acknowledge the rest of the league, and can only talk about the White Sox and Royals. Without looking it up, I promise you Greg couldn't name 3 Rockies or Padres. He argues points with limited knowedlge. When you present those points to him, they are ignored, and he hits the same bullet points over and over. He has admitted he doesn't believe facts when presented them. It's been going on for YEARS. TBH, I can live with the ignorance. It's the ignorance combined with this incredible hubris in regards to what moves SHOULD have been made that drive me crazy.

Well, the bet is down. Go Cavs!

QUOTE (Boogua @ Jun 7, 2017 -> 09:21 AM) Lebron was out for blood, but the Warriors are just much better than the Cavs. The Cavs had a defense ranked in the 20s. I do think they have a shot at winning tonight due to the refs and role players playing better at home, but it just seems like the Warriors really want to sweep and they have so much more talent that they could get it done. Yeah, I generally agree, although I think the first two games in Oakland have distorted the delta between the two a bit.
-
QUOTE (Boogua @ Jun 7, 2017 -> 09:07 AM) I would not. The Warriors got blown out in game 3 last year and it seems like they're not going to let that happen this year. I've thought for a bit that game 3 would be a good opportunity to bet the Warriors just because people will be on cleveland. Lowe also talked about how the attitude of the Warriors seems so different between games 2 and 3 from last year. Says he thinks they're "out for blood". Yeah, I am sure you are right, but LeBron was "out for blood" in game 2 and they still lost by 20 or whatever. The public is all over the Warriors and the line has gone from Cavs -2 to Warriors -3.5. Between the refs cheating, the crowd, and LeBron, I really think the Cavs get it done tonight going away. I guess we will see.

Ok fellas...contemplating a big play on Cavs ML tonight... How do we all feel about this one?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 7, 2017 -> 08:09 AM) And the White Sox still probably would have picked Fulmer. You guys keep mentioning this anecdote, but the Sox would have had to have picked Benintendi. This is why scouting is that much more important than where you actually pick. Rabbit mentioned yesterday that the Sox were on Benintendi...that Fulmer was not Plan A.

Good stuff, BB. I honestly don't flatter myself into thinking I have idea which guy to choose, but I do hope that they take a chance on someone with a high ceiling. If there was someone available with a reasonably high floor at a critical position, I might think differently, but as many have said, high floor, low ceiling corner infielders are not exactly difficult commodities to come by. Take the risk and draft the kid with the potential. Use the payroll dollars to sign the next Mark Grace in FA if need be.

June 6th Game Thread: White Sox @Tampa Bay Rays
iamshack replied to InTheDriversSeat's topic in 2017 Season in Review
Guessing there will be a lot of scouts at this one... Q, you need to outduel Archer. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 02:19 PM) Does his agent know about that? Doesn't sound like a smart business move. Sounds like a move to win over the faithful.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 06:19 AM) Is Kendall's agent Boras? If so, that's a big turnoff for me. He's a fact of life though...there is not much use in trying to continue to avoid him as we did in the past. One other issue, I wonder if Kendall's stock has risen as a result of his recent play.

QUOTE (beautox @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 10:24 PM) this system needs more left handed pitching. Outside of Guerrero; Purke, Clark and Flores are the only of note to me. Said every system ever...

So the Red Sox (and my fantasy team, grr) lost Eduardo Rodriguez, potentially for the season, to some kind of knee issue.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 09:07 AM) I don't always watch Bill Maher, but when I do, I fast forward to the round table/interviews.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 04:42 PM) While this is true, he did this with Robertson earlier in the season as well (either once or twice). I agree with the earlier point...the guy has to pitch once in awhile, right?

Fool Me Once: Deceptive seasons from OK prospects

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 3, 2017 -> 07:59 PM) Dan Remenowsky. I wrote a long treatise on him a while back, and how he was an important lesson for me in prospect analysis. Good article, Matt. Very interesting. -
