QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 09:11 PM) I'm on the record as some sort of steroids apologist? Yep. I compile a list of names with some short terms next to them which help me remember everyone. Next to yours it says "vigorous steroid apologist"

QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 09:04 PM) Let him read and do whatever he likes. It's not like this site knows if hes on here or not. Just don't let critiscim effect your way of telling us about what is going on. We all thank you for doing so. If you didn't expect some harsh words coming back then don't print the story. If some guy posted on becachreport or whatever website someone uses and said sox were going make a deal people be bashing that person as well. The irony in all this is that the story went pretty far in terms of who was asked to comment in regards to it. Chicago, San Diego, LA...The fact that all these parties were asked about the story only goes to show you that the print and radio media now realizes that they can be scooped from anywhere.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 07:52 PM) You're right, the only thing its going to do is give him something he will stick in your face if the trades never occur. I do know Cowley used to post occassionally on whitesoxinteractive but got into a fight and was banned. It would shock me if he isn't reading this thread laughing at what his big mouth has caused, thinking how wonderful he is. IMO, the guy has a screw loose. I'm sure he's reading this site too. I'm sure he's read most of this thread. He's probably here right now. To be honest with you, half his articles are probably just compilations of ideas he's seen here. I know if I was in his position, mine certainly would be.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 08:26 PM) You would think a guy who beat cancer and gets paid to do what he does would be wound a little less tightly. I could understand how a guy writing for a paper would really despise any and all bloggers, but if the information is wrong, why would it upset him so much? The only way Cowley is going to look bad is if he gets scooped by a blogger. If anything he just made a lot more people read the blog. He really is a loser. He thinks he's a writer, comedian, talk show host, but all he really is is an insecure hack. I agree. I don't understand why he couldn't have just said "That's something that came out of a White Sox fan message board or blog. Why don't we all agree to let them dream..." And that would have been just fine with me.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 07:18 PM) Someone needs to point out several moves reported on this board while Cowley was busy flexing in front of his bathroom mirror telling himself how great he was. There have been plenty. Jason did so in an email he sent earlier this evening. Cowley basically scoffed at the notion and told Jason he was "out of his lane" in reporting these rumors because he doesn't have the access or knowledge to do so.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 06:57 PM) Isn't Cowley the guy who said Uribe was going to be released several times--------never happened. Said the Sox were going to go hard after Orlando Hudson------------------never happened. Said Chone Figgins was going to be the target this offseason earlier in the year---------------------not going to happen. Who is this hack questioning anyone? I wouldn't care what the Sox gave up, just to make him look like a fool it would awesome if they got Gonzalez and somehow sent Paulie to the Angels. One of the rare things we agree on. My issue with Cowley is that as a beat-writer working in a major metropolitan area, for a major news outlet, his work just isn't up to snuff. He doesn't come close to offering out pieces like Gordon Edes, Susan Slusser, or former beat writers Buster Olney, Tim Kurkjian, Ken Rosenthal, etc,. His pieces are uninformed, illogical conjecture which bring absolutely nothing to the table. It does not appear that the White Sox are particularly enamored with his work either, as they certainly don't seem to go out of their way to give him much of anything in the way of valuable information. As fans of a major market team, we deserve better than Joe Cowley. And that ticks me off.

QUOTE (jamesdiego @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 06:50 PM) So this is an Angels source? Or did you just randomly name one of the teams? I think he is making assumptions, being that the Angels are one of the teams in the rumored discussion.

What form of accountability is there when newspapers have information and the event in question does not come to fruition? I can't recall any sort of accountability in Chicago sports journalism over the past 5 years, other than Rick Morrissey eating his column about Joakim Noah a few weeks ago...

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 06:29 PM) Flowers gave himself that nickname, he has it tattooed on his arm. One should never, ever, give oneself one's own nickname...
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 07:25 PM) Generally I hate the tendency of baseball fans to nickname players "first initial, first 3 letters of last name" This all began because of the prominence of latin players with the same 2 or 3 surnames. It's simply a way of identifying a player more quickly.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 06:31 PM) Did Joe Cowley seriously try to say he has some higher level training that we dont have? I would bet way over 50% of the people on this site have a better education than Mr Cowley. As if it takes much of an education to "tweet" anyways.... Over the course of the last year, the ability to break a story by "tweeting" it has become the measure of a beat writer such as Cowley covering baseball... What a pretentious, obnoxious punk.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 05:59 PM) This only makes sense if we don't expect Flowers with this organization in the near future. They could just be doing their due diligence. For all we know, Flowers could be traded, play the year out in AAA, start out in Chicago and split time between catcher and DH....for all we know, the Sox could sign Blanco so they have the flexibility to move Flowers around as they please.

Unbelievable?

Well, I'd have probably been the only one to list half of those then... This way, I can just question everyone else's choices...

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 11:15 PM) Some good quotes by Beckham. One I put in my sig. http://blogs.suntimes.com/whitesox/2009/11..._al_rookie.html And it's good to see the kid wants to improve his D even at second base. Yeah, being down in Miami is just another chance to improve his "game."

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 10:35 PM) Well, it certainly sounds like your uncle's head was talking to him. Yeah, he also made me ask out my first grade teacher on a date with him. She said yes. I am pretty sure he drilled her...

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 10:26 PM) Just think how much higher up Pearl Jam would be if you submitted a list. . . Honestly, I started crafting one, but then gave up when I reached the same issue many of you have mentioned...Do I list MY favorite bands, or the ones I think have been most celebrated by popular culture, or that had the greatest impact, etc., etc. So I scrapped the whole idea.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 10:20 PM) Congratulations on your lameness, sir. I vividly recall my single uncle driving me in his Porsche in the early 1980's to the neighborhood taverns in an evil (but effective) attempt to exploit my cuteness and get himself laid as many times as possible. I was 6 years old during this time, and I distinctly remember Once in a Lifetime blasting over his 8-track player... This my friend, is how I was introduced to The Talking Heads (and why they will always remain one of my favorites...

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 08:26 PM) A few albums of greatness > 90 albums of s***. I f***ing love Soundgarden. This is just pure blasphemy. Superunknown is an amazing album, but it doesn't top Ten. And Badmotorfinger and Down on the Upside are solid albums, but don't come close to Vs. (which is in and of itself one of the best albums of the 90's), or Vitalogy. And personally, I think Yield and Riot Act are awesome albums themselves. Certainly Pearl Jam has gone off the reservation a bit, but they have forgotten more amazing music than Soundgarden has ever made...

QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 02:10 PM) Psycho Killer is a great song. Yeah, the Talking Heads rock...definitely would have been on my list had I made one.

QUOTE (SockMe @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 09:44 PM) I haven't read through all 22 pages so how likely is this deal looking? No new information has come in since the original article was posted. Read it and you'll know just as much as everyone else.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 04:17 AM) Yet still better right now than it was come September 30th. And it's not even December yet. Hmm, something about that first sentence just seems a bit confusing to me...
