TCSN: Orioles Interested in Uribe; News on Danks

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 02:57 PM) They got crap for Aardsma, and MacDougal stinking AAA up would mean they would even less for him. Why would someone want to give up anything of value for a guy doing what he is doing in AAA in order to see if he can help them win in the major leagues right now? If anyone offered KW anything of value for MacDougal, he would be gone by now.. Don't forget, he also is signed through next season for a couple million a year I believe, far more money than Aardsma was getting. And look what Aardsma has done. A 2.92 ERA for Boston in 37 innings. So why would they just dump him? -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 02:00 PM) MacDougal had one very good season (2006), but even that year, signs of his head problems were there (every year, including that one, he's worse in situations like close-and-late, RISP, Runners On, etc.). He was bad in 2007, pretty bad in ST this year, and bad to start 2008. And now he's bad in AAA. MacDougal probably has a little value still, because of his skills. But he's a head case, and he's really only had one good year. He won't fetch much by himself. Have you guys not been watching the crap that teams are picking up in terms of relief arms over the last several years? They'll take anyone who's ever done anything who could possibly do something again. We signed ESTEBAN LOAIZA for the love of god! And Dick, why would we bring him up to the big league team if he's not corrected his problems yet? Simply because he has been a disaster for a year now doesn't mean he won't ever become something again. And while he is making $2 million this season, it's worth more to the club to hold onto him and hope he figures things out again than to DFA him. No one is claiming he's going to be traded for a top prospect; however, he certainly has some value to a team that thinks a change of scenery might serve him well. We all know he would be a guy the Sox would be looking into if he was in another organization having these problems right now... -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 02:42 PM) What kind of insurance is a guy who has shown the last 2 seasons he can't handle the major leagues. Its funny on this board how guys get trashed and most rightfully so, then when it comes time for a trade, the same people trashing these players think they have value. MacDougal has none. If he did, he would be at USCF right now. He doesn't have a ton of value, but he absolutely has value. A guy at his age, with his stuff, signed to his contract, who has done it before in the big leagues will always have value. Believe me, there are takers for him should Kenny choose to move him. My guess is Kenny believes they can right his mind and get him back to being productive again. And it certainly isn't hurting the team too bad to hold onto him for the time being. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 12:08 PM) Do you really think the Red Sox would give that up for Konerko, given his current production. If Masterson is involved in a deal you'd have to listen because he's got a hell of an arm (and IIRC is a guy Kenny targeted last year in the rumored Buehrle/Dye trades). However, it is very rare that two contending teams make a trade with each other in July (one of the last ones I can think of was when the Mets & Twins made a deadline deal involving Matt Lawton). Yeah, now that I think about it, they'd have a major problem next year when Papi did come back. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 11:53 AM) I agree, there is absolutely no way that the Sox are going to cut a deal with a team contending for the World Series with them unless they felt they were completely robbing the Red Sox (and Epstein isn't some idiot). Which is why I found the entire report regarding the Sox as being pure fluff coming from ESPN. I sort of disagree with you (although I see your point). I think it's fairly clear this team is a better all-around team without both Thome AND Konerko in there. Should Kenny be able to get a piece for the major league team AND some minor league pitching, I think he would be willing to consider it. Maybe something like Crisp and Justin Masterson? Obviously this is blind speculation, and I am just having fun with this, but if it were me, I would consider it. Any way you can get a decent piece for Konerko or Thome, considering Paul's 10 and 5 rights, and Thome's DH status, I think you consider it. -

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 10:30 AM) I don't see Konerko approving a trade to any team that doesn't have spring training in Arizona, or that plays east of the Mississippi. Didn't he grow up in Rhode Island or something? -

I honestly think Juan is a hell of a lot more important to this team than Ozuna. I understand that he wants to start, and he is in a FA year, and Kenny and Ozzie still have a lot of love for him so would like to send him to a better situation. But we need to be greedy here. He needs to be held onto should an injury occur. What would we do if OC or Alexei went down? I do NOT want Ozuna as their replacement, and I would rather have Juan around rather than a minor league replacement. Why the rush to deal him? -

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 12:26 PM) Hell, even if he said Uribe was one of the best defensive infielders in the league, it's still pretty hard to argue that's a crazy thing to say. Only ss with a better arm that I can think of is Furcal... -
QUOTE (Wanne @ Jun 29, 2008 -> 09:03 PM) Did I just hear Steve Phillips say that he didn't think the Twins or Tigers would catch the Sox?!?!?!?!??!....that the Sox SHOULD win the division?!?!?!? Steve Phillips is a fan of the White Sox. He always says positive things about us when he can. As for Lou, I'll bet he was getting a little lost when he came out to argue the checked swing. I guess he loses his way when he goes out on the field so he has his coaches and players wave their arms for him so he can find the steps back into his own dugout. It's like the funniest thing ever when you see them all waving to him...

I would trade the #1 for Conley and the #5. I don't even need to get Miller back. But I just can't see Memphis being willing to do this...
-
QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 12:51 PM) http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/...tory?id=3459696 I would trade #2 and Blount for the #5, Mike Miller, and Mike Conley. I would trade the #1 pick for that package.

Why not a simple "RIP" and his initials, with the years he lived on there... Another choice is to do RIP and his initials, and then a latin phrase or something... Perhaps followed by "ave atque vale," which means "Hail and farewell!" in english, and is attributed to the 1st century Roman poet Catullus, who said it in honor of his deceased brother.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 20, 2008 -> 12:20 PM) Oh, and Sully, you should check out our stadium now as its much improved since it first opened. And yes, all those things you said about the emotions around 2005 are true. I get goosebumps opening a beer with my 05 championship beer opener, an xmas gift featuring the front page of the paper the next day teared me up months after it happened. The introduction before the game makes my hair stand on end. As far as fans go, its hard to be the second team in your city and I would say that adds to the passion and the dedication of Sox fans. Its not cool or popular to be a sox fan in this city, but if you are a fan, odds are you are a true fan, and thats the kind of people we are. We are all over the economic scale, no matter what the paper tells you, but we come from the working class background of this city, the cops, the firemen, the people who built buildings and bridges. We are a very diehard fanbase and will stay that way, even if our neighborhood doesnt turn into bar city, because we love this team. Great post, Rock.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 20, 2008 -> 10:52 AM) Seriously why do you guys pay any attention to Mariotti? At all? Because he is the only decent columnist in this City. Unfortunately, he also happens to have an absolute vendetta against the White Sox entire organization. I must say, Jay has outdone himself this time. I cannot believe he actually managed to state that he is a "neutral observer" right in the midst of an article which does nothing but skew reality into the White Sox being a complete trash organization. I'm sure if Lou Pinella asked for a suite for his family, the White Sox would not oblige him. What a joke. The Cubs are a classy organization, and no one will argue with that. The White Sox' brass has a little bit of personality. So does the Yankees' brass. Does that make them a classless organization too? I'm not one to espouse violence, but if I saw Jay on the street, I would have a seriously difficult time not verbally and physically abusing him.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jun 20, 2008 -> 08:20 AM) I use to go there when I was in Law school since a few friends lived by it. I haven't been there in a year or two, but they use to have extremely hot waitresses and bartenders Yeah, that's a great bar! And there are always attractive waitresses, bartenders, and patrons. It's right across the street from John Barleycorn's. And on a beautiful day like today, I imagine they'll have the windows wide open. Should be fun...

QUOTE (G&T @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 08:31 PM) According to part 1, the government does not have the right to prosecute people for breaking the law because law enforcement is not personally injured. I doubt the rest is worth watching. Although after working in the DA's office last summer, I can say this: you should hire an attorney. Not because traffic attorneys know something special about the law, but because they know the prosecutors and the fine and penalty will almost always be reduced. Disclaimer: I am not an attorney. I am in law school. Honestly, I don't know what this guy is talking about. These are "citations" we are given when we are given a traffic ticket. This is not "litigation." This is a citation, which the government has every right to levy on you in the performance of it's police powers. And yes, GT, you are correct. And this is where the guy in the video is correct. Traffic court IS a scam. But it's a scam built up by the judges, the prosecutors, and the attorneys. For any reasonably serious offense, it is almost always better to hire an attorney. As GT stated, not because one is required to settle the issues- rarely is any legal knowledge ever discussed when working out a traffic citation- but rather, because the prosecutor and the judge will reward a client who has hired an attorney by levying lower fines and lesser punishments. The attorneys then recognize this and contribute more to the judge's re-election campaigns. The low-level prosecutor then moves on to become a private attorney or a judge as well, and the cycle just continues on and on and on. It's a terrible scam, and it does prop up a very low level of our legal system, and it is really unfortunate.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2008 -> 04:26 PM) There's a method to this, that at some level still helps the team. One of the reasons Jim has and probably always will struggle in these situations is that when he comes up in a close game he winds up facing the opposing team's best LOOGY when he comes up in half of those positions, and he's just never been that good at killing lefties, no matter what wierd things his numbers this year say. He's had a hall of fame career by being incredible at killing the ball off righties. So, at some level it's true, but at some level it's true because he's the guy that other teams game-plan their bullpen around. The one benefit of this though is that it helps chew through the other team's bullpen. If they want a righty in to face Quentin, OC, etc., then they have to take that righty out when Jim comes up whether he's finished or not, and if they want to have a lefty face AJ, they better be ready to have that lefty face Q or they'll burn through a couple pitchers. Real men of genius.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 18, 2008 -> 03:23 PM) And then package him up with Crede and deal them to NYY for A-Rod and Jeter, right? Nope. Just keep HanRam.
-
I think a lot of the reason that he is not good in "close and late" situations is because the opposition so often brings out a lefty specialist to get Thome out specifically. It's unfortunate that he is so susceptible to LOOGY's, but that also shows how dangerous opposing teams think he is. He needs to work on drawing more walks, if possible, in those situations.
