  1. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 01:29 PM) Honestly unless you do a ton of complex cooking or are in a "high-end" house where those sorts of appliances will be expected by buyers in a couple of years, it's probably not worth. You can get a nice fiver-burner range with convection oven for $1000-$1500. Yeah i'm with you, the 5 burner with convection is all I want/need. Especially since we may move in the next few years. I'm just wasting money on appliances we won't have and the buyers won't be paying for.
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 12:39 PM) Do you tip appliance delivery guys? What says you Soxtalk? We are having a whole kitchen of appliances delivered tomorrow, but they are only getting put into the corner of the front room for now, so no real extra work needed. Would you tip them? How much? Topical question! I had a new fridge and dishwasher delivered last weekend and was debating the same thing. I ended up tipping them 20 because the fridge took a lot of work to get in. They basically had to disassemble everything but the box, move it inside from the back of the house and then reinstall everything inside. I did the actual install on the water line and dishwasher, but still, it wasn't a simple pick-up/drop off situation. I figured 20 bucks for an hour of work, on "free delivery" from ABT, seemed reasonable. I was kind iffy on it and I basically had to grab the guy to give him the tip as he was walking out the door, so I bet it doesn't happen a lot. We went with a Samsung 4 drawer fridge and a Kitchenaid dishwasher. We were set on a Bosch dishwasher but the ABT guy told us that Bosch and other European manufacturers don't install heating elements, so it's common that the dishes don't dry inside, you have to crack the door and give it some time to air dry. It's also crazy quiet. 43 or 44 db's. The loudest part of the cycle is the sound coming out of the sink drain as the water drains out. We're now onto our range. There's a GE Cafe that we like a lot, but i'm not sure I want to drop 3k on it. We'll probably wait until the fall when there are good deals on the 2015 models.
  3. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 12:53 PM) I think in the end, I have no choice but to draw comparisons to the original. Jurassic Park comes off as an absolutely plausible story to this day. The book itself was the same way. There's no way Crichton would have written anything about militarizing raptors. Eh, i'd disagree on the plausible. There are plenty of dumb things that don't make sense - leaving one guy in charge of the entire security system, exhibiting the island in the first place when there's a hurricane on the way (which goes away very quickly, btw), having the breaker panels in a separate building, having a T-Rex area with a moat, and then to let the T-Rex out, get rid of the moat, etc. Still, top 5 movie of all time in my book. Not sure there's a better action movie. It holds up incredibly well 25 years later.

I needed a new show to watch during my commute home so I went with Ray Donovan. Anyone else watch? 2 episodes in it seems like a solid show.
  5. Johnson looks great for blowing a major on a three putt. Speith is also right there. Would be crazy if he won 3 majors in a row. Tiger...yikes. Dude needs to retire already.
  6. That 32 inch tv for $75 i was going to get as a computer monitor. Nope, sold out in seconds.
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 10:38 AM) Was the point of Amazon Prime Day to show everyone how much useless crap they have for sale? Yeah i've been pretty disappointed so far. Most of the items are crap and the deals aren't even that good.
  8. Played a fair amount last night. 5.5 seems too low, but it's not a 10 either. I think i'd give it a 7 right now. The game itself is still fun to play. The mechanics are all there. I like the difficulty setting options that make it more of a "true" simulation (none of that spin crap while the ball is in flight). But it's pretty rough around the edges and it does feel like 90% of the budget went into the game engine and 10% went into the feature set. It's all very light on substance. The lack of a bunch of courses and players, and the lack of available information just playing the game really brings the whole experience down. For example, the zoom feature doesn't allow you to easily zoom from the ball to the pin. It starts at the pin and then you have to move back from there. I liked how previous versions of the game let you fly down the entire length of the hole. Some other gripes: 1) The announcing team sounds great for a while, but after playing 4 rounds of a tournament Nabilo says the same 1-2 lines about each hole. It gets old quick. 2) They're also dicks sometimes. I kept hitting my putts long from 15-20 feet and they'd hit the back of the cup and go over by about 2 inches. They would both comment like "oh geez, he's going to regret that later. Not a good attempt." I just nearly holed a 20 foot putt, how about a "good effort!" or "unfortunate break!" 3) Speaking of lack of praise, winning or making an incredible shot rarely comes with any sort of celebration or even acknowledgment. I holed a 155 yard shot and neither commentator said anything about it. It basically didn't happen. Same with a few eagles I had or even a round of 62 I had for a tournament win. At best they said "and he wins the tournament on a great finishing round!" Come on, give me some fireworks or something. Show me celebrating with friends or my caddie. 4) It's awesome that you can get a full round in in about 20-25 minutes, but it could be made even faster if the cut scenes to your player after EVERY shot went away. I'm sure this is partly to give the system some time to load, but it's incredibly annoying to hit a good shot then have to watch your guy react (in the same 10 ways) for a few seconds before you hit X to skip and move to your next shot. If you could just immediately jump to your next shot it would be 100 times better. 5) The game defaults to quick rounds, which is a cool idea in theory but not great in reality. It simulates the round you're playing based on your level of play and then it lets you play 5-6 holes randomly. I think the idea they were going for is that you'll play every hole of the course over the 4 round tournament with the signature holes multiple times. The problem is that you'll often be 4-5 shots back and then only have a limited number of holes to make birdies and get back into contention. Without the full 18 you can't have a couple of bad holes and still expect to win. You almost have to birdie 3-4 holes out of the 5-6 that you play for every round. Luckily you can switch the default and play the full 18 instead. 6) In terms of the gameplay, I dunno, it seemed really easy and repetitive. By my second tournament I was shooting low 60's on the hardest difficulty (with the zoom feature on because there's no other way to see where the hell you're supposed to aim. While there's a whole hole map, there's not a green map to know the best place to land the ball. You'd think they would add an in-depth scorecard for every hole like pros are given for tournaments, but you don't.) I also still haven't gotten my pre-order bonus from Amazon. Anyone else get that email yet?
  9. I mean the good thing is there's the snap back provision, so if they don't live up to their end of the bargain sanctions can start right back up. My concern is in year 12 they have stockpiled missiles and then decide to find a nuke to attach to one.
  10. So does anyone know where to put promo codes on draftkings? Dan Patrick said on his radio show this morning that he had a code for a free entry in the The Open pool, but I don't see where to put the code anywhere on the site.
  11. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 10:06 AM) We're going on a Monday or Tuesday in October. Then you should be able to get in/out pretty easily.
  12. Able to obtain ballistic missiles in 8 years. Only a matter of time before they do something stupid with them.
  13. I read an article yesterday somewhere that linked to this site: http://joshworth.com/dev/pixelspace/pixels...olarsystem.html It took me like 20 minutes to get to Pluto.
  14. I'm a member of Brookfield Zoo and I have parents who live a few blocks from Lincoln Park. We go to both multiple times a year. I'd recommend Lincoln Park. It's free and a little smaller so your kid(s) don't have to walk nearly as much. Plus you'll save the 1-1.5 hour round trip out there. Keep in mind traffic gets insane all around the brookfield zoo at peak times on saturday/sunday when it's nice out. To the point that you'll be sitting in your car for a good 30-45 minutes just waiting in line to park. MS&I is the easy choice. The Children's Museum at Navy Pier may be good too. I have not been though.
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 11:50 AM) PS4? If so, I'll want your SN so we can get some rounds in. My copy arrives tomorrow as well from Amazon. Ibkillin is my sn. Early reviews are not good. IGN with a 5.5.

I'm really enjoying it. Looks ok, but the EA game will be more my style. Super gorgeous, great presentation, etc. I pre-ordered my copy from Amazon. Excited to try it tomorrow. I'm a little bummed that it only comes with 8 courses and 12 pro golfers. Sounds like it's going to be a title that only comes out every couple of years. They'll be force feeding you free and pay DLC to round out the game in between.
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 10:52 AM) Yeah, I have figured as much with our daughter (turns 2 this upcoming weekend but has been an early adopter of the terrible two's...tantrums for no apparent reasons seem to be the norm, haha). We really don't eat out much unless it is grabbing something and going to the park or eating somewhere outdoors so their is plenty of entertainment for her. For example, yesterday we were at Lowes to get a storage shed for the backyard (usually she loves going to stores)...one minute she's happy as a camper...the next minute (or I should say the next 10 minutes or what felt like 10 minutes), the Lowes store (pretty sure the whole store could have heard it) got to hear my daughter have a meltdown because I wouldn't let her play with the bubble wrap they sell in rolls (which she happened to see and want to play with). Thankfully it was early in the AM and the store was pretty empty. She worked up such a fuss, by the time we eventually got back to the car to put the storage shed in the back, by the time I had the car filled up (put her in the car seat first), she was asleep from her lil outburst. But while she was sleeping, you could still hear her still sniffling (as if she was crying in her sleep). Ha, my son just turned 3. I thought those 2 year old tantrums were bad. Now throw in talking back, screaming "no," spitting, hitting, etc. Fun age to be a parent!
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 10:34 PM) Any Lahaina, Maui experts out there? Near or on Kaanapali Beach? I need to find a nice house to rent with 3 bedrooms for the thursday before thanksgiving through thanksgiving. Has anybody tried ABandB? Anybody know of a hotel for about 150 a night max that isn't a dump? Doubt you'll find a hotel in Hawaii for that cheap. Check VRBO.com, might be able to rent a house for a few hundred a night with some other people.
  19. QUOTE (SnB @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 05:09 PM) Is it a jerk move to go to a golf course and just chip/putt on their practice green w/ no intention of playing the course? I really just want to practice those 2 aspects of my game more than hitting the range. I'd say no. But even if it was, realistically, it's not like they'd know, especially at a muni or lower level public course. They don't have anyone manning the putting area. And worse case they just ask you to leave. You might want to check some ranges. The good ones will have a putting green and some sand traps.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 04:09 PM) The problem with white privilege is that it does not mean you or your family haven't worked hard to get where you are. Saying that it exists and asking people to acknowledge how it has given them a leg up against people willing to work equally hard is part of the point of highlighting it. You know if it were just people acknowledging that being white helps, that's one thing. But we all know that documentary is about white shamming and white guilt. And s***, how sad is it that in a documentary about "tell me what it's like to be white" people have to DEFEND that, as if it's a BAD thing. It's totally perverse. I'd also like you to acknowledge that it's racist as s***. Because when we all say racism is a terrible thing and shouldn't be a part of our society, that should go for ALL racism, not selective racism.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 02:46 PM) Does a shorter deal let them put more money into the individual seasons? I don't believe so but i'm not 100% sure.
  22. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 02:43 PM) So in that case, I'd do my 5 year with player option and then tear it back up and do it all over again in the following year. You still keep the same leverage while having the long-term guarantee. We all know he's opting out again a year from now. The option is always the last year though, not the first. If he wants that guarantee of a check if he gets hurt, the franchise wants the guarantee that he's going to be there for a while.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 02:01 PM) "someone else had to do it years ago that didn't look like them." Highlighting again. Well, when we all come back to slavery as the root cause of this, and there's no more slavery, why isn't it ok to say "years ago?" I don't think he means that there isn't a privilege today or that blacks don't have any systemic problems today caused by the past. You're reading too much into that.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 02:13 PM) No. But you know what is important? Recognizing when something you're saying actually does damage to other people. That alone, right there, is motivation for people making a movie like this. I have to work with it in my daily life. When I was taught Earth Science, it was a laundry list of historical white geologists, ignoring the contributions of women, minorities, which in many cases were equal. I'm right now working to alter that in my own lectures, but I would not be doing so had I not stopped to realize that's what I was doing. That doesn't fix everything, but it's one of a great many positive steps people can make with their own attitudes just by realizing that they're doing it. In other words, making people actually stop, face up to the subtle things they do in their daily lives. Which looks to be exactly what the point of a movie like this might be! Such as? You don't think we all know that we've caught a lot of breaks in comparison to some black folks out there? Give me specific examples Balta of how i'm supposed to change my daily life other than apologizing profusely for being born white and feeling guilty about it. 1) that's not what I said. I said that you can't break stereotypes that people believe by acting in a stereotypical way. When black males are thought to be lawless criminals by people in our society, it doesn't help that image when you see tons of black males stealing s*** from people in broad day light and bashing in car windows and generally acting like a bunch of lawless criminals. That's just commenting on a fact. 2) wtf does that have to do with white privilege? I wasn't saying all black males are lawless criminals, I was commenting on a stereotype that is already out there. Are you suggesting that we should somehow ignore their actions because they're black, because indirectly we're commenting that blacks are just a bunch of criminals? I'm not sure I understand your point here. Except it doesn't do that. It doesn't appear to be, from the trailer, about getting white kids to recognize how great they've got it. Seems to me it's a big shaming party. Perhaps I'm judging too quickly, but it's tough not to get that sense with the way they edit the trailer with white kids crying and saying "i don't mean to offend," or "i don't want to sound racist" etc. Moreover, that movie is racist as hell. Not all white people think the same. Not all white people act the same. Hell, not all white people have that same white privilege that they're getting at (clearly they're not talking to poor ethnic whites in our own country, they're talking to middle/upper class suburbia there). I mean come on Balta, if I made a video called "black people" and it's me interviewing blacks and asking them why they kill each other or why they commit more crime than whites, etc, and talk to "them" as if all black people act that way, it'd be the most racist movie ever. Here? Meh. It's cool. We're just getting white people to recognize what they do on a daily basis. That's a bunch of BS.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 01:17 PM) And the next example of white privilege presented in this thread is asserting that it doesn't happen any more. Maybe we should educate our kids better on what kinds of additional privileges they get because of their skin color. You guys are the textbook examples of why. You just don't have to face up to that...because...well you knwo. Stop making s*** up. No one is saying this.
