  1. Good read. How does DNA in panties not = enough to charge? What else do you need? Ok, it's he said, she said still, I get that. Let the jury decide. That's their job. The prosecutor was effectively the judge and jury on this case, deciding there wasn't enough evidence to convict. Something's f***ed up about a system that operates that way.
  2. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 03:21 PM) F*ckin' Trader Joe's is where it's at, b****es. We shop there too, but like Aldi they don't have everything you need. I've also "soured" on them a bit recently. We've purchased a couple of refrigerated items in the last few months that were like 3-4 weeks past their expiration date. Kinda screwed up their image with me after dealing with that. At least we're now more cognizant about checking those dates.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 11:30 AM) Well, you'll probably get hot vs. Missouri. Mizzou still gets caught out of rotation (I stay still because this offseason we 'focused on D' and this huge problem persists) in this 3-2 zone we are running a lot, and in man to man. We also don't have a center, although defensively Rosburg can be alright he just gets into foul trouble. What Mizzou does have is length at the 1-4 positions. It will be a good game, I think Mizzou and UofI are pretty much the same team. And that atmosphere is awesome. I think it's one of, if not THE best, non conference games every year. Even when the basketball isn't great it's still an intense game to watch.
  4. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 11:07 AM) No Aldi near you? We switched from Kroger to Aldi about 2 years ago and we probably cut 35-40% from our grocery bill. There are a few things we use that Aldi doesn't carry so we still end up at Kroger about once/month, but man Aldi is cheap. Great minds think alike.
  5. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 10:58 AM) We go grocery shopping every two weeks. We set a budget, make a list of what we want to buy, look for sales, cut coupons and still end up going over budget almost every time. I just hate the amount of time and energy it takes from start to finish. From making the list, checking the pantry and fridge to see what we have and what we need, spending 2-3 hours in the store, loading it all in the car, carrying it into the house and then putting it all away. Not to mention going to multiple stores when one is sold out of something. Aldi is good for the basics. I always thought it was off-brand/generic stuff, but you can get the same exact item at Aldi that you'd find in a Jewel for 50% less.

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 10:28 AM) Full of himself? He constantly puts himself down. If you're talking about how he thinks he revolutionized radio, he's right. Opie and Anthony are awful. They come of as unprepared and uninterested in everything. Plus the just constantly swear and it gets old. If he doesn't like someone or some entity it's always their fault and not his. I can't remember who his guest was, someone along the lines of Alyssa Milano or Jennifer Love Hewitt (sorta of a B-list star that everyone knows from a show back in the day), but she wasn't interested in divulging secrets about her sex life and when the call was over he and Robin railed on her for being too up tight. It's that kind of stuff that just got old after a while. He always seems to infer that he's so much better than everyone else, even if he does make fun of himself too. To me he's Letterman 2.0. 20 years ago he was groundbreaking and amazing at what he did. Now? Meh. Not a must listen. I listened to Opie and Anthony when they had Jim Norton and Patrice O'Neal on all the time (3-4 years ago). They were funny because of their conversations. If it was just the two of them they were pretty awful.
  7. Caught the highlights of the Illinois-Auburn game. That's a good response after a bad loss. Hopefully we can steal one of the games against Oregon and Mizzouri.

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 7, 2013 -> 11:50 AM) Easily. Since going to Satellite, easily the best radio show I've ever heard. The people who knock him are the ones that don't listen. His stuff with Metallica and Lady Gaga were great as well. He's so full of himself it gets old. I listened basically every day when I had Sirius and after about 6-8 months I couldn't do it anymore. I switched to Opie and Anthony but they suffered from the same problem (though much faster). Sadly I'm stuck with Mike & Mike or Mulley and (ugh) Hanley in the mornings.

I've got a Droid Razr without a case or screen guard or anything. I drop it constantly, and my one year old bites it/drops it all the time too. Except for the edges that have been warn down a little and a couple of teeth marks on the back, there's not a scratch on it.
  12. Bush lets evil corporations kill eagles to keep precious energy companies in operation. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/d...;utm_medium=RSS What a jerk.
  13. $75 is like 4 items at Sams or Costco. I love going to those stores, but spending 3-400 bucks every few weeks is a little ridiculous.
  14. QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 02:08 PM) you realize, of course, that there are 34 countries in the world with lower poverty rates than the United States, yes? Including - wait for it - Syria. In NYC alone, the 21% poverty rate puts us right up there with Pakistan. But of course they don't have an excuse here. The system is absolutely not rigged against them. I bet those Syrian and Pakistani numbers are 100% accurate too...
  15. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 10:57 AM) The Nets really screwed themselves big time. They set the franchise back years just to have an outside shot at a title this year and next. We see how well that has worked out so far. I'm still not sold on them being THIS bad. They have a lot of injuries. Heck, even the Knicks are better than this. Both will be playoff teams, and I expect the Nets to give the Heat and Indiana some games. Especially the Heat with their size. edit: I also think if they keep up this pace Kidd will be gone. They look like an uncoached team right now, especially on offense. It's bring the ball up the court, give the ball to someone, dribble in place and then go iso.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 09:51 AM) http://winteriscoming.net/2013/06/what-hap...p-to-the-books/ I don't think anyone wants the series to pass the books, but it seems almost like an inevitability for the slowest author in the world. It also bears mentioning that just because the show runners know the ending doesn't mean they know the details of how Martin intends to get there... I still feel like they could stall and make a season out of half a book if they really needed to.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 05:41 PM) HBO pays s*** money for programming same thing that AMC is doing. One thing about shows is people want them to come out of the gate flying and then be that good for the duration. Shows lose their luster unless they are scripted comedies written by genius comedians. The Wire was a show that held water for all five seasons but the plot was so spread out that almost every season was a new show but also not to complex as GOT as lose some of the story. I think most of the GOT story is lost on a good percentage of the audience. Do you mean s*** tons of money? I've never heard of any complaint that HBO doesn't spend ENOUGH money. They spent something like 100 million to build a set for Rome, a show that lasted all of two seasons.
  18. Was that the end of his 4 hour "closing argument" at his trial?
  19. Man, f*** Metra and/or the BNSF. Their service history blows. On top of being routinely late, at least 5 times a year some massive problem halts the entire system for hours at a time, including tonight. And it always seems to happen right at rush hour.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 04:44 PM) The show is filled with meaningless scenes and conversations that have little to no consequences or connection the main plot. Gillian's character was completely useless and only allowed Richard to stay relevant and connected. Her scenes were awful since Jimmy's death. Van Alden is just a vehicle to include Chicago. Margaret? Who cares? Did Rothstein have any important scenes this year? They've wasted Lansky and Luciano. Part of the reason they have so many characters is because the main character is awful and boring. The show should have focused on Jimmy from the very beginning with Nucky being a mentor and plot catalyst. The main problem with the show is that I don't give a s*** who lives or dies because all the characters just aren't compelling. Chalky's the closest thing, but his dialogue is trite and his character is over-acted. Sounds like you just don't like the shows setup, which is fine. The show was never really about one guy, it's about several groups of people. I like most of the characters on the show and I think it's interesting when the writers do some back story on them. The characters were initially all closely connected but now they've spread out and because they've done a good job with the "meaningless scenes" they've created interesting characters with their own problems and issues that need resolving. Van Alden is a perfect example. 3 season ago you could have said all the weird scenes with him alone were not necessary but it all added to his transformation into a member of Capone's crew.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 04:32 PM) Some Cable shows dont get the footing they need to succeed because they come immediately after the cancellation/ending of a really successful show. IIRC In Treatment was a critical success, they just didnt have the viewers. Tell Me You Love Me was very similar to that They were both ungodly slow IMO. Tell me you love me had some nice t-n-a though. John From Cincinnati just never had enough hook for me. The idea was interesting - mysterious guy shows up in a world filled with odd and varied characters. But nothing really happened.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 04:24 PM) I've never seen a show that struggles to fill time as much as Boardwalk. It's 90% filler. I've never missed an episode though. Sunday night is the only time I watch TV, so it's kind of a ritual. The show would have been much better if it focused on Jimmy as the protagonist. Nucky is dry and unlikable. He just isn't compelling in any way. I don't like or dislike him, he's just there. The writers dug themselves a hole when they had Jimmy sleep with his mom. After that, they had to kill him and the show has suffered. I'm not sure what that means. IMO the show sometimes has too many characters and not enough time to tell the various stories. I don't think the problem is lack of good stories to tell. I agree Nucky isn't the best but I think he's interesting enough to be the "main" character. And really he's been less and less the main story. He just happens to be the main character connected to all of the others. Like Richard, I think Jimmy's story ran its course. He was Nucky's guy and then he back stabbed him. There was no coming back from that.
  23. Kinda surprised he's lasted so long with all the medical issues the last several months. RIP.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 03:59 PM) A couple years too late. It would have been much better off as a mini series and hasn't been good since season 2.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 03:13 PM) Apparently Season 5 will be Boardwalk's last season. Will only be 8-10 episodes as well. I guess Terrance Winter said he wants to work on other projects. I hope one of those projects is a Chicago spinoff of Boardwalk with Al Capone. Call it "The Outfit" or "Chicago Outfit" or something. Seems a little odd that they'd cut ties with all of their major brands except for GoT in the same year. No more True Blood, Treme or Boardwalk. All new shows + GoT? Didn't they learn their lesson after the Wire, Sopranos and Deadwood ended at roughly the same time? Who remembers John From Cincinnati, Tell Me You Love Me, In Treatment, etc. They went 2-3 years without a decent drama/50 min show.
