QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Nov 26, 2013 -> 09:22 AM) Narcisse wasn't taking the wrap for the murder. He was threatened with deportation if he didn't become an informant. Richard's scene wasn't about his marksmanship, it was about hesitation. He was no longer the killer he had been. He discovered his humanity. The scene where his sister shot the dog symbolized this. It mirrored the scene when he was contemplating suicide in the woods from a couple years ago. The dog represented his fight in both scenes.

Boardwalk. Wow. The last ten minutes I was on the edge of my seat. Not sure that I liked how it all wrapped up or where the show is headed from here. But still, wow. My biggest "gripe" would be that
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 26, 2013 -> 09:01 AM) Well the TV would be near our front windows. Hmm. Then just make sure your plasma gets good scores on how bright it can get.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 26, 2013 -> 08:55 AM) Plasmas are supposed to have superior viewing angles? Yeah this could be the age or model of the TV, but the front glass of the TV sucked on the one I had.
  5. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 26, 2013 -> 08:52 AM) That's basically what I'm looking to replace, a 40" Sony. Nice at the time I bought it six years ago, but our (rarely-used) CRT in the basement is on its way out, so I could cycle a new TV into the living room and move the 40" downstairs. edit: why the hell are the Samsung plasmas 51" or 59"?? If you're replacing the 40 with a 40, i wouldn't buy anything fancy. Just about any "small" TV like that will have a good picture from a brand like Samsung.
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 26, 2013 -> 08:49 AM) You really won't find an audio / video guy who would recommend anything but a plasma. People just get drawn to the sex appeal of the LED / LCD (not quite as thin, not the new technology...but still the best technology from a screen perspective). Eh, I had a plasma in my upstairs living room that gets a decent amount of light and it sucked. There is more glare on a plasma and the viewing angles weren't as good (at least a year and a half or two years ago). If you're talking home theater TV I agree, but LED/LCD's are probably going to be a better bet if you're using it as an everyday TV in a room with light and/or odd angles.
  7. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 26, 2013 -> 08:47 AM) Yeah, the "Soap Opera Effect" is caused by these sets trying to fake higher refresh rates than the source provides IIRC. It makes everything look horrible. But, you can always turn that garbage off. Most of the "enhancement" features are garbage. Yeah, the power consumption thing is somewhat important to me. Looking around at some specs last night, the expected energy consumption was something like 150W. Not horrible. I also don't leave my sets on for very long and have the "auto-off" features enabled for when I accidentally do, anyway. I can't imagine when screen burn-in would ever really be an issue for me. Most devices these days have their own auto-dimming features anyway on top of whatever the TV itself offers. I was looking at the specs of comparable plasma and LED tvs. Seemed like you're talking about 40lbs for an LED versus maybe 60 for a plasma. That's really not a big deal. Still a hell of a lot more manageable than an old 36" CRT. I'll have to look into the Samsung, I was checking out their LED TVs and some Panasonic plasmas last night. I care about picture quality, not any of the smart TV stuff or 3D. I wish someone would make a high-end display with the extra stuff stripped out at a lower price-point. I hoping Fry's has some plasmas on display that I can go and check out in person before deciding. Check out some of the big box stores like Sams or Costco. They usually have (1) better prices and (2) the models that are stripped down to give you lower prices. Not sure if you're a Costco member, but they also throw in an extra year of warranty for any electronics purchase.
  8. Jesus. How does the Judge still have a job? And where is his attorney?!
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 25, 2013 -> 03:52 PM) Heres why GTA sucks for me, I am now at a point where I have no missions popping up and all I am doing is driving around. WTF. That happened to me in the first hour or two of playing. I eventually (10-15 minutes later) got something to do.
  10. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Nov 25, 2013 -> 03:07 PM) They won 45 last year without Rose and the East is much worse. 35 wins might make the playoffs at this rate. They also won several playoff games without Rose, Deng or Hinrich. Basically everyone on the roster has to be traded or die for them to win less than 35 with how awful the league is. Probably true, but Nate and Belinelli played huge roles on those teams. Nate won games single handedly. I don't see how the current team scores points unless Boozer and Deng go off. Kirk has never been a great scorer, Noah has never been a scorer at all, and anyone off the bench is going to require a set up before getting a shot. Chances are about 100% that Kirk suffers some kind of injury, so you're left with Teague or James running the offense both in primary and back-up roles. What little we've seen of Teague proves that he's a d-leaguer at best. He's nowhere close to being ready to play. James showed flashes last time he was on the roster, but he probably lost a step if he's behind Teague in the rotation. I also think mentally this team is taxed. Last year they played with the hope that Rose would come back and lead them in the playoffs. Now we know a few weeks into the season that's not going to happen. Are they going to have the same fight in them to care about these games? Especially since half the roster knows they won't be on the team later this season or next season?
  11. I'll add too that I'm not sure that I buy that Thibs + scrubs = playoffs. Yes, the east is terrible, but this Bulls team even with Rose has been terrible all year. They're lucky to have a .500 record. They probably should have lost to the Knicks and Bobcats. How likely is it that Kirk stays healthy? A team led by Teague and relying on Boozer to be your main offensive weapon is going to lose a lot of games, even with good defense.
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 25, 2013 -> 02:34 PM) This post worked before he took 19 months for an ACL and got injured immediately afterwards. Now you just sound like a Rose Apologist. I'm happy to say I'm a recovering Rose Apologist. I think it's just the reality of the situation. This season is lost, why risk it? What possible benefit is there to getting him back on the court this year? You have to assume that like Chris Paul or Wade or Westbrook he'll be back to his old self in time. This isn't a career ending injury. I totally agree that going forward Rose should be considered nothing more than a great PG and potential all-star. He shouldn't be THE guy that you build around. You just can't trust him to stay healthy anymore. Make him your marketing franchise player, but you better have a decent PG back-up in the event he goes down.
  13. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 25, 2013 -> 02:28 PM) Meh. If it's possible to get back on the court, you don't say it's impossible. If everything goes swimmingly, he's ready for that Pacers game. The Bulls gain nothing by rushing him back. They risk everything if he gets injured again.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 25, 2013 -> 02:21 PM) Exactly. The Bulls actually got in front of the train this time. Maybe, MAYBE, they're being smart and doing this so the tank-a-palooza option sounds better. They couldn't trade away players and tank if Rose is expected to come back with a month or two left in the season.
  15. QUOTE (ptatc @ Nov 25, 2013 -> 02:15 PM) The insurance has paid a good portion of that. The Bulls are getting good use out of their premiums. I don't think it's as much as you think. Bernstein had a tweet earlier today that they'll get like 11 million back. They're still paying out a ton of money. Not that i'm complaining, Rose brought the Bulls back to the national conversation for the first time in a decade. Just a crazy amount of money for one real playoff run.
  16. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 25, 2013 -> 01:34 PM) Using current projections, if absolutely nothing is done, benefits will be reduced to ~77% of what's required by statute in 2033 (this changes yearly when the trustees publish their reports because there's a lot of assumptions that go into 75 year projections). I'd like to see the payroll tax cap eliminated and SS expanded, but it will still be around when we go to retire. It better be. I'm spending all of my retirement savings on random crap I don't need. I'm counting on those SS checks.
  17. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Nov 25, 2013 -> 12:35 PM) You guys should really stop dreaming about a top 3 pick. Thibs would drag 12 d-league players to 30 wins and Stern retired. Also, the bottom of the league is horrid. By the time they found decent trades for Deng and Boozer, they would already have too many wins. Also, no one is giving you a lottery pick this year unless you kidnap their children. Even then, they would REALLY need to care about that kid. Lastly, the Wiz already traded their first Quin (top 12 protected I think). That's why we need someone to protect Thibs from himself. Get into the bottom 10 and you've got a good shot at an all-star quality pick.
  18. QUOTE (Reddy @ Nov 25, 2013 -> 11:23 AM) And I'm just supposed to hope and pray it exists 40 years from now and NOT take a health care credit because of that? That's a hell of a lot of faith to put in our clearly dysfunctional government. See, you and Duke agree after all.
  19. We need a David Stern lottery fix to get Jabari on the Bulls next year. Come on Stern, one last hoorah.
  20. That was great. Good find.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 25, 2013 -> 11:14 AM) Honestly, I would be listening on Rose if I could get a lottery pick. I would too, but there's no way the Bulls take the PR hit. And frankly, I'm not sure you're getting that from anyone at this point, especially not a lottery pick in the upcoming draft.
  22. Bulls have paid Rose 42 million for about 50 games the last three years.
  23. I think it's time to declare Rose a nice piece, not a franchise guy. You can't waste seasons on this guy anymore. He's too injury prone.
  24. I blame Bill Simmons and his reverse jinx.
